Cannondale by Lito and Paps Rom

Great day to bike today, slightly overcast (neither hot nor raining) September 25, 2016

Nolite, Alan, Pangskie, Master and Gerry resting at Maybancal Barangay Hall after
                                                        breakfast

My goal today is to ride 90 to 100 km.  It is a great day to ride today.  Despite the announcement that typhoon Helen is making a landfall today (in Batanes) it did not rain this morning (although it rained last night). The skies were dark at the West side but the rain did not fall.  I saw Jess, Meong, Luis, and rest of the guys at Jollibee at about 6:30.   I rode ahead of them to say a little prayer at Sacred Heart.  I saw them pass and leave me.   Then I gave chase but never caught up with  them. Saw them in Morong for the breakfast of lugaw and buchi.  Those who were there were Joel, Master, Meong,  Nolite, Gerry, Pangskie, Alan, Luis, Jess

Along the way to Morong I played with a group of MTB (about 8).  They were fast.  I passed them before Looc, and I left them but they gave chase downhill from  Callahan.  I raced with them again passing them before Morong market, then I overtook them at Namay (later in Tanay as we biked to Pisong Kape, I overtook them again)

They stopped at Pisong Kape to go to Jalajala so that I would reach my mileage.  I reached Jalajala in 30 minutes but stopped along the way to have buko and take coffee at Pisong Kape (where else)  I had conversation with Pablo and somebody, an MTB from Batingan Binangonan.

I passed at Cardona bypass going home

Going back, I passed other bikers going home but I chased somebody in road bike. He was wearing red jersey.  From Binangonan, I chased somebody who was on MTB but had thin tires.  I let him go near Tayuiman elem school.

It was a great day for a ride.  I think I pushed myself to the limit to be stronger.  I am distressed anymore by riding MTB for 100 km distance.  Just spin it

My bike ride today with the Recyclists from Pililla

Wheels of Happiness

                                                             King Richard

I biked today and it was late setting out at 7:00 am.  I passed by the Sacred Heart Church, prayed and asked for the blessing of the priest.  I brought my Bianchi bike today.  I passed several MTB at Darangan, and Montevideo.  There were no other cyclists until  past km 55.  After that there were two bikers who chased me:   one roadie, the other MTB, and the other one Bubuy who appeared at km 57.  I biked ahead of the MTB in white and green jersey MTB in black and red jersey. And Bubuy up to km 59.  The guy in MTB (friend of Ed Valdez) told me that I was "Ang lakas" for my my age because we were doing 35 kph and up and he could not get past me.

Then I stopped at Pisong Kape and met the other bikers:   Master, Val and Chito.  They said they were there some ten minutes earlier.  I had lugaw and brewed coffee of Chris (great tasting at P30 per cup)  And then others who rode to OL appeared:   Jess V, Edgar (7 days) Angel B (on a MTB) Alan A, and Jericho M, Richard A, Joel J, Nolite  and Gerry C. ( 12 in all, I was the 13th)  Weng B later joined us

Then we rode back until Maybancal.  I was left behind with Val (a couple of seconds) for we too were speeding.  After spending some time at the Maybancal barangay hall, drinking cold water and some conversation, we biked home.

Four of us decided to try the Cardona diversion:  Alan, Richard, Weng and I.  On the way up I was ahead then Richard, Alan, and Weng went ahead of me.  I was able to chase Richard, and Weng past Crystal East entrance, and  Alan past the last summit before going down.   Alan retook the lead as we descended.  He was ahead of me uphill by some 50 meters and he lost me going down from Montevideo.   Chito Jericho and Jess who passed by Cardona were suddenly behind me and Chito and Jericho overtook me and I chased them again.    At Calumpang highway, I sprinted and overtook the two but later retook the lead at Island gas.

It was great Sunday ride with hill climb and plenty of sprints.  Great way to keep fit

Tito Fabay does the Diversion loop for his pracice

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
March 23, 2016

Tito Fabay and I joined the PNP race Binangonan, Cardona diversion loop 4x last March 6, 2016.  We did practice ride of 3x at the route that is why we thought we could finish it.  We did it.  Tito finished 8th at the Executive Category.  That was a great finish considering that it is 45 above grouping. The 45 (or even below racers) would definitely do better than us.  And considering that some even cheated....

So enough for that.  I met Tito yesterday en route to Maybancal Morong where Vhen, and Ed was supposed to meet for ride to Manga to buy some parts/accessory.  (Ed forgot and did not arrive)

Tito told that his practice yesterday was a 3x loop at diversion. Wow.  I should do that sometime.

Removing the slight play from the fork of my SARS Ultegra bike)

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
February 20, 2016

This had plenty of fine sand and other grit, I had to sandpaper to
                                           remove some rust and imperfection

While resting at Maybancal barangay hall in today's ride, Val noticed that there is some looseness in my front fork steerer.   He said the integrated headset could be defective all ready. He tightened it. To my discomfort, the steering was difficult and was resisting me and I could meet accident.  He loosened this at Teresa lugawan.  It was better.  He suggested that I clean the bearings and all the parts.  It could be very dirty if this has not been serviced.

At 3 pm today, I opened the head set (removed the fork from the other parts) and cleaned with kerosene the dirt and grime.  I sand papered the   the fork steerer and the bearing surfaces. There was some rusting and then I greased the parts that would come in contact.

I had to disassemble because the condition did not improve.   The second time I assembled the bike it was much better.  No need to buy a new integrated headset.

Note the rust, it has to be removed by fine sandpaper

Preparing for the Sagada Ride

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  May 17, 2015

My rides, I hope would prepare me for the 370+ km ride to Sagada.  So I left yesterday at 6:30 and arrived at 7:40 in Pililla.  The tropa who were at Maybancal (Simples Kape) chased me down and caught up with me at Km 57. Meong caught up with me in uphill between Baras and Tanay however  I overtook him at km 53 and he was with the peloton several km later.  They were ahead of me by seconds at Halayhayin.   All in all, I would have passed two dozen cyclists, mostly MTB

It was big chain ring ride.  I stayed at 53 and went down to as low as 25 even when climbing hills. (It is to develop strength)

I proceeded to KM 74 in Jala jala (Halayhayin or Pisong Kape is KM 60)  It was light pedalling and easy ride.  I was at km 74 at 8:30 and back to Pisong Kape by 9:30.  I was in Morong, Maybancal by 10:00 and caught up with the troop.  There was free tea and lugaw at the Barangay to celebrate the win of the youth there.

A GTS bike like so many of drivers (jeep and motorcycles) cant read signs

Wheels of Happiness

Maybancal, Morong, Rizal  Philippines | May 11, 2014

I biked on a GTS bike today.  I did not realize somebody had the same white GTS bike parked at Maybancal however with a brand new Spyder helmet.

Richard inquired if I bought a new helmet.  I said no, I did not because there was no large size helmet. at Spyder last Thursday.

Lo and behold, it was not my bike.  And it could not read signs like the multitude of other drivers who cant read traffic signs, or knows them and simply ignore or disobey them.

See the picture.

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   |  December 22, 2013

Papasko po Kuya  at KM  63

Merry Christmas to all cyclists and health loving people all over.!

I left at about 6:30 this morning.  It was still dark by then.  I went to the Sacred Heart Church, said my prayers and left.  There was no mass.

I was joined by Ado in Bilibiran, and we just rode and spun  And we told stories about Kay Biyang Tunnel (the Ternate ride)  The other cyclists from Taytay were amazed at what we did.  He stood up and raced by Mambog and I kept up until the downhill to Cardona.  I showed the way at Callahan.  And maybe I was 30 secs ahead by the time we hit the Morong Cardona boundary.  I took pics of the pollution.  And let Ado passed by.  We were in Simples Lugawan by 7:20 and a handful were there:  VM,  Joel, Gerry Cataps, Vic, and later came Master.  Many did not bike.  Jun Francisco was the topic of discussion.  We had our usual lugaw and buchi.

Then we rode out to Pisong Kape by 8:15 and we were there by a little under 9.  I was with VM at peloton until KM 53 where I stopped for pictures.   I then allowed the 7 11 guys and Choco overtake me at km 57.   I went past Pisong Kape and went up to Bugarin to buy buko.

Angono, Rizal  PHL  |  November 3, 2013

My very late bike ride today took me to Pililla Rizal.  I was in Morong by 9 am, and I met the Recyclists at Lagundi furiously riding on fast clip and rode up to Pililla by 930.  I had my lugaw with egg there and biked back by 10 am. I was   passed by the Taytay cylists who included Boyeth, at km 55.  I stayed with them until Km 53.  And then they disappeared on the way down from the Tanay cemetery hill.

I was in Morong by 1030 and happened to meet Mr. Boots Rayos del Sol, who says he is a computer programmer working in Eastwood.  He has Cervelo bike shod in AmCla with Conti tires.

However, he seemed to have left me after we initially met at Maybancal;  I was stuck in traffic in downtown Morong.  I did not see him anymore until I saw him nursing a flat in Bilibiran. I stopped and lent him my tire irons (este plastic) to remove the tire from the rim.   By then it started to rain until 1145.  We rode back when the rain stopped.  We took picture in front of Sacred Heart Parish in Tayuman

Riding in style with a pick up and bike carrier and carbon fiber bikes

Real Cyclists

Morong Rizal  PHL  | September 28, 2013

This is a good sign;   using the wealth to stay healthy and fit. Thanks and congrats po.

I used to do this;  bring the bike in a carrier up to Tanay then cheat my way up to Bugarin.  But then again, I do no acquire the foundation miles, and I thought it was not a great and healthy way to exercise. If I should bike, I will bike from my place to Bugarin,.

But the place of these guys must be far away and you should admire them for their determination to get their exercise.  But they spend at least l.5 million for the Ranger Wildtrak pick up and for the bike about 300 to 400 thou.

"Inggit lang kami marahil"

Enjoy your biking guys. (Sorry I did not get your names)  There were at least 5 cars, van, pick ups in front of DPWH having the same set up.

No wonder sales of bikes and pick ups are picking up.

Alan, Luis, Jess, Choco2, Richard, Jorgeusbiker, Papa Ric and Abet

It is great day to bike today.  The sun shone brightly today.  I left at 6:20 and I brought out my Fuji SL - 1 with Campy Group set.  It was gathering mold in my room.  I passed by Sacred Heart Parish and was off by 6:40.   Richard caught up with me near Montevideo while I was sprinting up the hill. We were together up at Callahan but then again I got a flat tire.  He did not hear me and left me behind.   It took me some 20 minutes to repair the flat because I failed to notice that I was not able to seal off the bead completely.  I inflated at 80 psi and the interior was bulging.

Thus I was in Maybancal, Simples Lugawan by 7:40 and all the stalwarts of Recylists were there:  Jeff, Jess V, Abet V, Luis, Joel, Armin, Edgar, Alan, Papa Ric, VM, Master, Richard, Peter and of course me.

VM, the whistle blower, blew his whistle at about 8:15.  I biked ahead of the rest and they caught up with me at KM 54 and never looked back. They rested at Pisong Kape but I went up to km 69.  I was there by 9:15 and I bought some fruits.

I went down by 9:30 and was in Morong by 10:30.  On the way, I rode with some Fuji bike owners.  I left them on the climb up to Tanay cemetery, and passed me at the road widening portion of the Manila East Road in Lagundi.  I took picture of the road widened which became a solar palay drier.

I was in Cardona by 11 and was home by 11:30.  The sun was hot and shining brightly like I said earlier

Recyclist bike ride today September 1, 2013

Real Cyclists

September l, 2013

Choco2 joined me in Darangan at 6:38

It is Sunday, as usual there is a regular all out bike ride today by Recyclists.  I left at 6: 10 this morning and said a little prayer at Sacred Heart Parish.  When I reached Darangan, Choco2 was there  and as I stopped to take pollution pictures but he wont.  Past the Binangonan Convention Center, Richard came;  I took some more pictures;  then we climbed Mambog. I even overtook the 2 before the summit;  but then my thighs burned, I slowed down and they were ahead of me by some l5 meters and then disappeared downhill.  Some mt bikers overtook me.

But I caught up with them at Callahan;  they slowed down going uphill.  I caught sight of Choco2 and Richard and they were merely ahead by 20 meters going up Callahan.  They sped away.

At Cardona Morong highway, I time trialled however again the Mt. Bikers were fast and good at negotiating traffic.  We arrived at Morong Maybancal by 7:15 which was pretty fast.  Choco2 and Richard went straight to Pisong Kape.  We had lugaw and buchi at Simples.   Those who were there:
Master, Joel, Nanding, Peter, Tito,;  then VM Pres Luis, and Armin arrived later.  I met Eddie Pama whom I befriended.  I met him before at 711 Col Guido and at the Bosoboso ride.

We left earlier (Eddie and I) from Maybancal.  so that we could have headstart.  The peloton caught with us at KM 52 (going up the hill to Tanay)  We however caught with the peloton at km 57.  Eddie taught me how to use the gears.  Low low gears going up but shifting to l5 or l7 as soon as you reach the summit.  Shift to 53x l5 as soon as you go downhill.

We were with the peloton when we arrived at Pisong Kape.  Then we went duo up Bugarin where we arrived at 9:10  We had buko at Km 70 with friends of Eddie from Davao City.

We biked down at  9;45 and we rested at Morong by 11: 00. There was this lady there who offered us manicure.  She said she is from Naga City and had 2 husbands who are old.  And they are not good.  She had 11 children.

We were in Angono by 12:15.  He invited me to his house in Graceville to drink cold water and softdrinks and water and had lunch.  I left his place at 2:00 pm.  I learned that he lives alone.  His wife and children are in   Kuwait
