I was all blue in bike ride yesterday

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   |  April 28, 2014

I realized I was in a handsome all blue uniform:   shirt, shorts and bar tape for the Fuji bike.  Unfortunately, I did not have any picture yesterday.  So using the , and my Coolpix Nikon camera  and its self timer, I posed and had these pictures taken. I had to wear the soiled stuff that smelled of sweat for this photoshoot.

 What is your comment?

Ven finally got his Aksium wheelset

Wheels of Happiness

Angono Rizal Philippines |  April 27, 2014

Ven shows off his Aksyum wheelset which he bought for 9t;  China cost P7t

Ven's Shimano wheelset broke when he attempted to replace the ball bearings sealed bearing.  Perhaps the races broke when the bearings were forced.

He aspired for my Aksium Mavic wheelset but I needed  replacement and his wheelset cant do.  He liked it because VM said it is France made and true enough when he inspected it there was no wiggle and it ran straight and true.

He got the opportunity to buy his Mavic wheelset from Christy last Black Saturday when he joined VM who went to Christy's in Cartimar, Leveriza, Pasay City.

Congrats Ven

Group pose near Hacienda Pisong Kape

Three sets of cyclists overtook me on the way to Morong.  I was a little bit disheartened and the overtaking showed my weakness.  I rode hard up Montivideo and Callahan, and so with last hill going up to Sambat. Morong Rizal

I was at Simples Lugawan by 7:30 and all ready there were plenty of cyclists:  from REcyclists and Taytay and took many of their pictures. and posted them at FB. At about 8:00 we left for Pililla, Hacienda Pisong Kape and there about a dozen of us in the group.  We stayed behind to support Engr June (or we could not catch up with the peloton)  I was with the group of Gerry and Engr and we chased a biker up the biak na bato but he left me.

It is besides 711 and a massage shop

After seeing off Engr June fetched by his son (he could not bike anymore up to Teresa because of cramps,) we climbed Teresa of course and rested at China Bank.  After a hard climb, Joel pala and Master rest and just sit at that spot in front of China bank.  We decided to go to the new bike shop which he said is owned by an American, about  one km from Lores.

Relaxing in front of China bank

And so we went there.  We had to make some inquiries and the car wash boys said that it is near 711 and past Crown Asia.  So two hills after we were there:

Former office mates at Mitsubishi:  Joel and Engr June - looks chubby handsome and fresh

I was so happy that after 11 months of non meeting, I saw Engr June Francisco today.  I learned that in their company Engr is in charge of installing the TPS (Toyota Production System) and that he had health problems:  he had cyst operation on his groin and forehead.   So he said that he must rebuild his strength and stamina.  He said he was going home but we encouraged him to ride up to Pisong Kape. To which he gladly obliged.  We rode slowly with him, except at km 58 to 59 where Gerry adn I tried to chase a strong cyclist.

We rode with him (Joel, Master and I) going back to his house via Teresa.  But he had cramps in Teresa lugawan and he had to be fetched by his son.

Jeff and Idol (Edgar) rode tandem to Baguio City last Holy Week

Wheels of Happiness

Teresa Rizal, Philippines  |  April 27, 2014

I knew  before that Jeff and Idol rode to Baguio last Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (Holy Week).  They rode up via Marcos highway and had to walk 1/2 of the way from the tunnel to Green Valley.  I understand Jeff's gear is 53 x 23.  That must be hard climb for both them.

They slept in Tayug Pangasinan, I understand.

Congratulations and God bless Jeff and Idol.  Idol kayo pareho

We should bike early at coolest time of the day because we may experience heat stroke.  Avoid long rides between 1 to 3 pm (which we did last Easter Sunday)

Temperature in MM was  the 34 degrees C mark on Thursday and Friday.  No wonder I was dizzy for the last two days

Forecasters warned temperature may be higher in days to come

The highest temperature in MM was recorded on May 14, 1987 in MM at 38.5 degrees C.

I biked today to Morong. I left at 6:20 am and was back at 8:00 am  On the way I visited Edgar whom I have not seen for months.  I did not see him because I was on teaching stint.  But that is over, I am biking again and still I do not see him.

So while in Cardona, after descending from near Montevideo, I checked out Edgar.  And saw him repairing the tire of his bike which was flat (for non use.)  He said he was not able to bike because the motor of the submersible  pump which is used in his waterworks system business.

I rode the Zipline today at Lakeside Park in Angono, Rizal April 24, 2014

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal Philippines  |  April 24, 2014

From Holy Gardens Group post

We rode the Zipline today at Angono Lakeside Park.  It was the 3rd day since its opening.  It is run by certain Marvin who also runs a restaurant nearby.  Each 3 second adventure sets you back by P50.00.

Yesterday, there were five adventurers;  today, for us alone there were 10.  There were 2 others who joined us. It was our teambuilding exercise for the Holy Gardens Group

At first we hesitated and were afraid; r this was despite being a mountain climber before and trained in ropes and climbing before. We overcame our fear when Marvins daughter showed us the way.

Mildred will prove to child that she can

Erika had to be motivated (forced)

                                    The cable shows her weight

One of the managers trying the zipline;  it was her first time

Brenn was the first brave soul, then Zusette, Cindy and yours truly.  It was fun.  The first 1/2 second is scary,;  you shout to scare away your fear.  And before the blink of the eye when you hear the zip of the pulley on the cable, it is over.  We had to challenge and motivate twomanager and one subordinate (pinilit)

I am sure it is an experience they will not forget

This PM,  a lot more tried the fun and adventure.  Some all ready saw our post

Scream to drive away your fear

Repair of my Campy Ergo Shifter

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  |  Philippines

The Fuji Bike with brand new Clark bar tape; it is expensive

During the Bisikleta Iglesia last Maundy  Thursday, I brought the Fuji bike with Campy group set.  VM, the former owner of the Campy and the frame, and the Cosmic wheelset, saw something was amiss in the bike:  the shifter.  There were wires protuding from the shifter.

He suggested that I had it looked into and repaired.  He had problem before with his Campy and it was stuck and the Christy mechanic spent almost an hour having it unstuck.  He went to Christy last Saturday with Ven to buy a Mavic wheelset.  So I lost the opportunity to have it inspected and repaired soon.

Our bike pics yesterday Tagaytay City Easter Sunday

Bikes need some publicity and recognition too.  We have oftentimes posted only about the riders and not about the bikes.

Recyclists kapadyaks had difficulty in their feeding station yesterday; we had a great time at McDo though

Angry and hungry;  Richard complaining to VM about change of feeding sites

We had some frayed nerves and feelings yesterday regarding where to eat.  Since we could not proceed to Sky Ranch, the consensus was to eat at Dasmarinas.  So at 11:30 we rode down the Aguinaldo highway and by past 12, we were at Dasmarinas. Some guys were about to order their food when someone ordered to leave for the next (?) one.  Someone suggested at Jollibee but where.  No one stopped any of the 3 Jollibees along Paliparan.  The kapadyaks stopped at Daang Hari.  By that time, people were angry and hungry for denying, changing the place where to eat.

VM, Master and Val in motion

Here are some more pictures of the Recyclists kapadyak on the way to Tagaytay.  It is a challenge taking pictures of riders in motion.  Most of the pictures at FB and blogs are:  pictures at pit stop, group pics, or picture taken while stationary on the road waiting for them to pass a spot, or from a stationary of moving pictures.  There are rare pictures taken of a fellow rider while moving.  Well there are plenty of helmet cameras now.  I hope VM, who has one, using an iPhone will post many of the pics.

Here are some great pics which this rider took, sometimes in speed of over 30 kph  (Dangerous eh sometimes even in bumpy road situation)  up close and personal.  Richard took some of them.  Thank you Richard.  The grea pics were taken by Richard

The carbon fiber wheel of VM was damaged; the damage affected the braking

VM could not ride the Colnago anymore because of the damaged wheel

We had two casualties yesterday in the ride to Tagaytay city:   VMs carbon fiber wheels and a fellow driver who showed signs of heat stroke:  he vomitted after reaching Tagaytay.

As for VM hitting a MC, there could be no expert on this. VM rear ended an MC near Sucat when the young rider turned left without signalling:  hand or light.  His front wheel got stuck between the wheel and muffler and he could utter was "Sorry po" VM landed on his rear seat and his bike stuck up with the rear end up.   He had a flesh wound at the shin and it could be painful

Only a handful joined the Tagaytay ride today, April 20, 2014; we did not reach the Sky Ranch

Look at the traffic, going to and from Skyranch

This bus  near 7 11burned and the fire has to be put out by chem fire extinguisher;  scary;  we abandoned the place and parking slot because we might catch fire too; or be hurt in an explosion

Maybe because it was Easter Sunday, we got only and handful of participants:

Jess V, Gerry Y,  Joel J,   Master E,  VM, Chito  F, Nolite, Richard A, Ado G, Val and Jorgeusbiuker.  Because of the traffic (and the burning bus, we were not able to proceed to SkyRanch   Jeff and Luis were with us at the assembly but did  not join the ride.  Val was not initially with us but caught us at C6

Richard leads the group in prayer before departure in front of Taytay Hall

At Metrobank Daang Hari, the usual pit stop

Val, a cycling Pro (from the province) chased us at C6

Jeff rode to Baguio with 2 others last Thursday and Friday via Marcos Hiway.  Tsk tsk they had to walk past the tunnel to Green Valley.

I rode today Black Saturday and met Sec Joel, Master and Ado at Pisong Kape in Pililla

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines. | Black Saturday.

Despite having crashed on a Black Saturday about 4 yeas ago at Shang, I broke my nose bridge - the titanium eyeglass frame stuck into the bridge when I crashed after my roadbike wheels fell into their dangerous gratings,.  (I biked to Baguio on a Good Friday) I still biked today. (I did not bike on Good Friday though)

I left at 6:30 am and biked to Antipolo.  On the way near Aurora, I saw Ado.  I arrived at the church at around 7:10  Then stayed awhile at Antipolo church; there was no mass - only a vigil. I met Pres Luis at the gate of the  churchyard.

I was in Teresa by 7:30 and in Morong by 8:00 am  where I ate my lugaw at Simples Lugawan. I learned that they read the FB of Jorgeusbiker and read this post. Thank you po Simples Lugawan.  I asked if there were other Recyclists who dropped by.  She said Joel.  So I rode going to Pililla.

And there at Hacienta Pisong Kape,  I met Ado, Joel, Master and Sec.  We told stories for a while and talked about our blog and FB post.  They went ahead as I bought singkamas.   I was not able to catch up with them.  I was in Binangonan by 11:00 am and at Angono by 11:30.  It was very hot by then

My neighbor inquired how do I survive in the heat. I said because of the helmet and the quick dry fit clothes/jersey.  It was nice to be home

God bless every one.  Have a pleasant Black Saturday celebration/rest.
