Is my ride improving?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  | March 23, 2015

I am surprised at the relative ease of my bike ride to Tagaytay yesterday.   I biked in a relaxed manner (since I was not with the halimaws)  I just spun at  39 x 15 and 17 and covered until Bicutan l hour,  Bicutan to Alabang in 30 minutes,   Daang Hari in little under 30 minutes,  Paliparan in over thirty minutes.   Going up to Tagaytay was easy to at 39 x 19 and 21.

The return trip ride at Daang Hari was easy to. It did not look formidable as before.

The rain had double edged effect.  It made the ride less tiring.  But it slowed me too because I had to ride slower and safer (it is slippery and you could not stop in time.)

Cleaning the bike after riding through rains and the flood

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines | March 23, 2015

I spent much of the afternoon cleaning and  greasing the bike I used (a SARS frame with Ultegra groupset and FSA crank) It  had grime all over, the front derailleur wont work again because of the sand clogging the moving parts, there was sloshing of water inside the BB, and the grime on the cogs, on the front chain ring, and the pulley was too much.

The rain just stopped when I was in Daang Hari

Idol Ed Valdez informed me that he did a solo ride to Kaybiang  in Cavite rode out to Matabungkay and rode the very stiff hills.

Why dont I try a solo ride to Tagaytay City?

So I left at 6:00 am after paying a visit to St. Clement Parish. I was in C6 by 7:00 am and in Bicutan by 7:30, 7:45 in Sucat and 8:00 in  Alabang, 8:30 at Daang Hari and 9:00 at GMA corner Paliparan.  At Paliparan, I chanced upon, (overtook a young rider) I was spinning and he did not keep up.  I was in Silang town proper by  9:30 and was in Iglesia by 1030.

It was a day for adiks because it started to rain in Bicutan, and stopped or a while in Daang Hari.  At Aguinaldo highway in Silang, it started to rain again.

Injured heel did not deter my biking today March 14, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  March 14, 2015

It is Saturday we have work today but I excused myself from work.  My goal was to bike only as far as Morong because my heel which I injured last Saturday has not healed -  it had deep cuts after a screen door ran after me.

So as I went out, Richard saw me and he said he had to go to the plaza to accompany lady MTB to SCH. So I left him.  I went for a while to Sacred Heart Parish to say a little prayer for my safety.  On the way, Jess V caught up with me.  Soon Nolite.  They added pace as we passed by the Convention Center.   We passed and Meong and Victor and then they were completely gone after they crested near Montevideo.

I was not able to chase them.  Victor passed by the Cardona bypass and met him at the Y.  Well I was able to outsprint him. And I had to stop before the Market because my heel hurt.

On the way back, I saw Meong, Jimmy,  then the group of Richard, Alan, Pangskie  and Vhen in that order.  Well I think it was a good ride.  I had 3 anaerobic sprints, including one at  Callahan.  I rode heavy gears going up back at Callahan and LLDA.

Can you count the # of wind turbines?

The Wheels of Renewable Power are visible from Morong.  As I rested last Saturday in Morong, I saw that near the Morong Cardona boundary, the wind turbine of Bugarin are visible.  Yesterday, I took the pictures.

My bike ride this week

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal   March 7, 2015

Last March 5, 2015, I biked to Antipolo Church.  I met Jose there who said it was his first time to bike.  Ever since there was a new mayor in Cainta, he was not so free to bike and arrive late work.   That is good discipline.

Sir VM arrived with the 2014 uniform and the Dogma bike.  We talked for a while and then I had to leave to report at 8:30 for work.

Today, March 7, 2015,  I biked to Malaya.  It is Saturday, and we have work, but I lacked the mileage.  I did not stop at Pisong Kape nor at Pisong Kape, having taken my breakfast at Wawa.

Really cleaning your derailleurs can do wonders for its smart operations

Image result for cleaning bike front derailleur

The front derailleur of my SARS bike (it is part of the Ultegra groupset before it was outmoded with the latest model) was malfunctioning,  It would not downshift to 39 once I clicked the smaller/downshift paddle.  I checked the STI and its cables and nothing was wrong with it.

I checked the front derailleur;  it was grimy and had some sand particles on it.   I sprayed WD 40 to no avail.

Thus I had to disassemble this, remove from the bike and had small watch screwdriver to remove the sand and soil wedged between the pivot of the shifter.   I had to repeat this 3x.  True enough, some grit is preventing the free movement of the derailleur.

I assembled the derailleur again and this time, it shifted efficiently.  I thought the derailleur was a goner.

Altenergy wind tubines up close and personal - new bikers and tourist destination

Wheels of Happiness

Angono Rizal, Philippines   |   March 2, 2015

Please visit Alt Energy

Yesterday my bike ride led me to go to the the 54 mW wind turbine project of Altenergy located in Bugarin, Pililla Rizal.   6 have been installed and the 7th one is being set up.   The propellers are quite huge and the towers are huge and tall.  The site itself is off limits to visitors.

The windmills are attracting a huge throng of visitors and tourists:   bikers, MC, and car owners.  No need to go to Ilocos to see windmills.  Before in USA we saw a huge number in Tracy California.  No need to spend $1,600.00 plane fare to go there!  It is right in Bugarin.

To go to the wind turbine site, ride up to KM 66 (past the Over Looking) and turn left and up before the bridge KM 66 marker.

From Morong Cardona boundary, you can see the wind turbines (here are about 9 all ready that are up)

See it and you will be amazed.!
