Bike ride to Morong and Quarry Road

Wheels of Happiness

Nagquarry road ride after going to Km 47 in Morong.  Then rode to DOMSA via Quarry road.

On the way to Morong, tried to race mga nakasabay:   isa sa from Cardona to Morong, 2 at Namay.   Also overtook one elderly MTB rider in Pag asa.  On the way back, overtook a similarly aged MTB rider at Diversion in Cardona, then another one going up LLDA at boundary of Binangonan and Cardona

Now all my legs and thighs ache after the racing and hill climbs

Biked to Morong, Bombongan yesterday; they held Recyclists Christmas party and forgot to invite me (again!)

Wheels of Happiness

After one week of inactivity (I could not bike because of threat of dog disease to spread in the house, because of stray dog straying in front of the house) i was able to bike again.  It was a short ride -  up to market of Morong, and then to Bombonga,  About 20 km one way (40 km total)

Really the growing weakness brought about by advancing age is noticeable.  Could no longer catch up with group riders in MTB or RB.  But I could still bike.  It is very important.

On the way back home met cousin Smith and another senior rider 76 yo from Kalawaan Pasig.  Was in tandem with them but left me downwill at Calahan.  Anyway was not in the mood for racing

Later at noon, Peter texted me that it was the Christmas party at Jess v's house.    I could not get myself to attend as I just slept.  They forgot to notify me again

Rode to Morong on S works, with higher gears now.

Wheels of Happiness

Rode up to Km 47, 20 km from Angono on S works RB.   The cogs are 11-28 and had to use much higher gears unlike before when  I was using 11-36.  Good for the heart and better exercise at my age.   Noticed more strain on my calf

Biked today, was together with Sir Bubuy

Wheels of Happiness

This post biked today to Morong for business and exercise.  (had to check the site cleanliness in preparation for Nov. 1 celebration)  As I was getting our the site, I saw Sir Bubuy who as on Twitter MTB .He was riding towards Teresa.

As my grears were not working well, I had to bike at 36t chain ring, 28  and 30 on steep portions   We went non stop from Morong up to start of climb at Teresa.  We took BJ.   Then it was non stop till Taytay at SM.   His place is near Rusi near the corner.

He said I could still bike well going up because at zigzag I pulled away.

Aping the pros- riding up the hills on big chainrings.

Wheels of Happiness

This post climbed from Morong Teresa to Antipolo until Avida communities on big chain rings 52.  and rear cogs at 28 at the steepest portion.   When I was younger I always climbed this on 34/36  and 34.  This time am aping the big chain ring riders at the big event even using 54 and 60 chain rings at hill climb.

Thats a ratio of 52/28 =  1.85

Whereas before I rode it at 36/34  = 1.05.   Thats a large difference.

I found out it can be done.  Prior to this, I shifted to small chain ring, 36, before climbing at Island Cement turn.   I experimented today and I came through.  Congratulations to me

Here are the reasons why the bigger chain ring, the better  :

1.  Less strain on the chain
2.  Less bending because of bigger circumference
3.  Less friction
4.  Less cross chaining

Kuwento ng Biyahe ni Senior Rider mula Morong Rizal hanggang Daraga Albay

Wheels of Happiness

3.  At si ako.  Gurang na gusto pang may patunayan na Age is but a number

Day 1  -  Morong hanggang Atimonan
Day 2 -   Atimonan hanggang Naga
Day 3  -   Naga hanggang Cagsawa

isang drone.

Jala, bosoboo at hanggang Pagsanjan,

Sagot niya magsiumla ka ng 10 steps, then  11 steps sa susunod na araw hanggang maka 1 kilometro ka, then 2, then 3, then 4 then 5.
Then join ja ng 5 k   Ganon din sa 10 k.

Nakatakbo ako ng maraming 5 k, 10,, 21 k at 42.195.  Fulll marathon  Mga 5 marahil.

2.  Then nag mountain trekking ako.  Naakyat ko Makulot, Pulag Matutum, Pinatubo   Mt. Apo

3.  Then nag 4x4 ako laro sports ng mayayaman. At nahilig sa mga sasakyan din

So bumili ako ng mountain bike

    1.  Baguio 8 times
    2.  Vigan pinakamalayo sa Norte
    3.   SAn Felipe, walalng swag vehicle
    4.  Real Quezon
    5. Laguna Loop,
    6.  Bosoboso Sierra Madre
    7..  Jariel Peak Infanta
    8   Lucban Quezon
    9. Majayjay Laguna
   10.  Bitukang Manok Atimonan
   11.   Padre Burgos Quezon
   12.  Calauag Quezon

Day 3 Mula Naga hanggang Daraga.

Bukod sa biking, nag free weight exercise ako:   crunch, push up, rubber bands, some
weights.  Hindi mo dapat babyehin katawan at pagtanda.

Kaya ito nag extreme bike ako   400 km.   Beyond imagination ko at lagpas sa limit   Naka 150 out and back ang kung 3 araw kayang2 ito 100+

    1.  Napagpagawa ng mansion bilang bahay
2  May mga SUV at European luxury cars
    3.  Nanguna sa pag aaral
    4.  May naitayong maraming malaking negosyo

Riding for strength pedalling at 50 t chainring all through out at RB, and 42 at MTB

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
4.16.2021.

Yesterday, I rode up to Morong using only 50t chainring.  Its same chainring on flats and hills.  For the hills it was 50 x  30     Today at quarry road, I road up hill using 42 x 32.   My legs and thights now ache.

At the steepest part, I downshifted to 32.    (No choice, otherwise the bike stops moving and fall)

I understand that is the rationale for the one by.   To use only one chain ring through out the shifting range.

What do you choose at number of teeth for the crank:  30, 32, 32, 34, 36, or 38.?

I would choose 34.   That would be the ideal gear for a RB and MTB especially for senior.

My carbon fiber wheelset can be repaired by a local Fiberglass fabricator

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
3.26.2021

Our colleague whom we sent to scout for the carbon bike wheel repair just came and reported that the wheelset can be repaired.  All that they have to do is to build up the rim and sand paper to be flat.

That is nothing compared to big job repair of cut and/or broken wheelset, stays, and even tube.

The workers according to the staff are very young,, and hopefully they will not charge much.

I can only surmise this is their site?    https://rj-bodykits-carbon-fiber-fiberglass.business.site/

However I was quoted a steep price P2,500 for the job.    I negotiated.  Last price is P2,000.  But they will make sure the repair leaves the wheel balanced and flat/even.

                                                    The more high end alternative

However, I just learned that all that they can do is:

1.   Build up the rim;
2.   With another color (not the original one) and the friction part cant be redone
3.   The wheel seem to be a bit twisted (arising from the motorcycle collision last February 1 2020  at Mabalacat.

Does S works bike really work?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
June 20, 2018

Today I am 67 years old.  I will just stay home today.

Yesterday, I biked up to km 58, 31 km away from home. That is all ready Pililla. I only planned to ride up to Morong.  Why did I end up riding that long.?

Because in Morong a young long legged  rider on a Bianchi XR4 overtook me just after the  Morong Gas station.  Of course, this post wanted to test if S works really work.  Just before Laguna junction. this rider overtook  the Bianchi XR4 Oltre and sustained the distance ahead by a some 100 meters until km 51 when the latter overtook this rider again.   I caught up with him just before the ascent to the Baras Tanay boundary (km 52)  but when we crested he overtook me again. That was the original target destination. And so I just let him go.

The cooling down period took me up to km 58 hahaha.

Conclusion:  when driven hard, S works bike really works

Solving missing shifts problem of Campy at my Fuji bike

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
December 29, 2017

I rode today up to Morong to fulfill my mileage requirements for the Vigan ride  I had 50 last Wednesday, and today 40 km. I rode on the Fuji Carbon

I was trying to ape Alberto Contador who boasted of standing up going uphill (on slight or medium hills) at 53 x 17- 19.  However, as I used the 6th gear (the 19 teeth) it jumped.   I tried to adjust the cable tension from the front adjuster, to the barrel adjuster, then the screw adjuster.  But the bad shift kept on.

I avoided the 19t and used 21 or 17t to experiment the standing up when climbing the hills (instead of 34 x 25) which was slower and lazier way to climb.  Surely such a practice makes one stronger and faster

So I peered at the gears and I suspected a broken 19t gear. (Whew where will I find a 19t spare Campy cog?) What is saw surprised me:  there is an uneven space between 17t and 19t.   So I removed the cogs from the free wheel.  The trouble was with the spacer.   The first two spacers with the groove was between the 25 23 set with 21 19, and  17.   I placed the flat spacers which caused uneven spacing.  When I rearranged the  spacers and the cogs looked of even spacing, I tightened the nut and tried to shift  It was perfect.

Without this observation and analysis, this problem would persist and the mechanic could have fooled me and recommended something expensive.

Ride to Morong today using FujiCarbon

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
October 8, 2017

Image result for fuji sl1 carbon road bike

I rode to Morong today using a road bike.  The FujiCarbon. I had not used this for the last 2 months and molds and mildew were growing on the tires and other parts  I decided to use the 50 chain ring and the 13 to 15 sprocket even while going up Callahan. (a hard gear set day).   There is a big difference with MTB ride because pedaling is relatively light and was not left very much behind by a fellow road biker aboard a GTS alum bike

As I saw in a bike contest in Lombard, when the gear is harder, all I had to do was stand up

I met Jimmy and Sec Noe and both wore the same windmill uniform.  There was a slight drizzle as I rode home.   Many I think did not ride because there was light rain/shower early in the morning

Dapat talaga lahat ng bikes ginagamit

Pleasant day today for a bike ride; slightly overcast and light breeze

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
July 30, 2017

Today was a very pleasant day for biking.   The skies was overcast (not much direct sunlight) and light cool breeze blowing from the south (but sometimes it got very windy) due to a reported typhoon system in the north.  It could have a been fine day for biking at US.

I left later than usual, about 7:30 because of  digestive system disorder.  Again I bought the SAVA Ti and rode side by side by a former fellow Taytay rider (whose name I forgot, friend ni Joel)  He had a Ridley carbon fiber bike and he noted that what I had was a Ti.  I even left him at times.  And also I took the Cardona diversion and he took the usual route. He said it was malupit.  Going up Namay Morong, I left him and another companion.

There was no more lugaw at Simples when I arrived (a little over 8:00 am) and just said hello to the husband of Ms. Simple who is having challenges with diabetes.

And then I decided to return home via Teresa and Antipolo.

I happened to ride with two young MTB riders who had Eagle SRAM group.   I was able to catch up and even overtook them really going up Teresa.    But well they were young.  So a 70,000 gear set can not leave you far enough. It is about strength and endurance.  (Am I beginning to lose some of that)

In Antipolo, and going home there were patches of  strong rain, or showers and dry roads. I was able to get home before real rain started to pour

Bike Ride today, July 2, 2017

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
July 2, 2017

I started out 6:00 am today to catch the start of the mass at Sacred Heart. and had a chance to kiss the hand of  the  Parish Priest. And then caught up with Min Zap and Pres Luis in Bilibiran, but they left me at Binangonan Convention Center.  I had my Mosso MTB with XT group set, and was riding at  42 x 13 just o keep up.  But I lose out to their higher gears. I bet, I would have arrived later on by not more than 2 minutes.

We met the other Recyclists there:at Simples Lugawan    Netoy, Engr June, Joel, Peter A (who paid for my lomi) Master E, and Ed de los Reyes. (7 days)  He said he got better but it does not seem so.

Simples Lugawan looks like a garden setting and looks more charming to eat Lugaw there.   The owner said that the new smaller location (their former place was knocked out due to road widening) did not diminish the number of their customers

On the way back I rode up the diversion using 32 x 23.   So I get more confidence in climbing steep roadlike the Cardona diversion.

It seems that my Mosso fork Suntour lock is not working.  The seat too  is not properly set and I had trouble with my pedaling stroke.

Simples Lugawan, my pictures and the post came out.  Ha6

If you have been biking to Morong and eating your breakfast at Simples Lugawan, you may be surprised that the lugawan is no longer in front of the house.  It is all ready at the side of the house fronting the road towards Baras.  The DPWH took possession of the location of the former lugawan (including that of the barangay hall to give way to geometric dividers for the highway as beginning from Sec. Singson, the highways have been widened.

So if you bike this week and other week ends, you know where to find the Lugawan.  At the same low low price (Lugaw with egg only P15.00.  Butsi  only P6.00, Mt. Dew  with lots of ice only P14.00
