Had trouble with my shifting as I biked 20 km out and back; it rained

I had trouble shifting especially at small chainring and small sprocket.   I fixed it as soon as I got home where I had the tools and bike stand.  Found out:

     1.   The jockey wheel was all ready dirty;

    2     The rd was loose;  the bolt attaching it to the frame was loose. I just tightened it 6 mm.   Everything was back to normal

I met Gerry on the way at 6: 10 am.   He was waiting for Jess.

I biked to Km 47, had bfast at simples,   Met Master and had shop talk with him for 10 mins.  Then went home via Cardona diversion.  I met Louie on the way up, but he stalled because he said  he had "rayuma"

Then it rained as I summited.  Waited for 30 minutes for the rain to stop.  

Then went up at the steep Mambog hills

Went up SCH until the tank only.   Then on the way down, saw 3 mtb riders spraying each other with high pressure hoses after being muddied up at the SCH trail.  They sure like ducks enjoyed the experience immensely

I was able to bike yesterday finally.  However I started out very late at 8:00 am because of previous 2 days conference in Calamba City. (I started out early about 7:40 Saturday evening from Calamba but I arrived at the house 11:15 because it was difficult to get a ride home -  it was Christmas shopping time and it even rained)

I arrived at Morong at about 9:00 am and there were no bikers in sight;  I had the usual lugaw with egg and the food server had all her eyes on me..

              An old picture in 2012 that shows Smith and Alan together near the fast food.

This party traveled on a business trip to Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, November 14 to 15 2014.   He left Calapan 3 pm on a boat ride, arrived at Batangas port at by 5 pm and traveled by bus up to Crossing.

It was difficult to get ride at Edsa central and Starmall and I tried to get a ride at Megamall terminal.  Lo and behold, 5 minutes after a van arrived, and I found myself seated next to whom?   Rommel (Smith and daughter Hannah).

I asked if the post of Pres Luis about the Jalajala ride pushed through.  They said the ride did not push through because it was raining.  But Jess, Alan, and Master arrived.

He also had a spat with the security officer regarding the placement of bike so that it will not be stolen.

They came from WTTC bike exhibit wanting to buy something different.  I told them that I got an 88 gm pedal from all places, Marauder in Antipolo City, and Jagwire.

Rommel and Hannah paid for my P45.00 van fare. Thanks po.  Nice meeting fellow bikers, after coming from  far away place.  It reminded me to bike tomorrow.

Choco2 (Jimuel Mariposa) a fellow recyclist (only a teen ager and in his prime) collapsed at Bugarin, Pililla Rizal on the way back, (at about 2 pm+)  at Km 71. He had to stop. (His uncle Gerry passed him and left him??) Those who saw this happen were Master, Weng Balubar and myself

Jimuel sat down and put his head below his shoulder, which is a no no.  It  was hot and humid and we advised him to stand up and walk, and douse his head, his back and shoulder with water.  Then we had to advise him to do 1 2, 1 2 pedalling (which was pretty tough though).  We again stopped at San Miguel where he had a drink of cold water (the sales lady was surprised that he collapsed)

Choco choco complained he could not breathe because of probably spoiled food he ate at Morong early today

After the downhill at Bugarin and when the weather turned colder and there were showers, Choco2 probably recovered.  It rained when was  3:00 while in Pisong Kape, and he probably recovered.

So we told him he could avoid this type of collapse next time. It should not happen to him because he is very young and top state of health

I am not ashamed to tell that the rest of the Recyclists wait for me.  But before they had to wait for 10 minutes or so, now, it takes 2 to 3 minutes for me to arrive (that is according to Joel)

At the C6 portion I was in the middle of the pack and even was at the front of the paceline for a while.  They overtook me at 3/4 portion of the road.

At the Bicutan to Alabang portion, I was near the front, and reliquished the advantage near the Alabang Zapote road (they were ahead by just 200 meters)

At Daang Hari, up to about 4/5ths of Daang Hari, I stayed with the lead pack.

I and master were behind at Paliparan and Greenwoods up to Silang

At Silang to Tagaytay, we (Master and I were behind) but overtook Ado at around km 48.  Ado though overtook me at km 52.  (That was near the rotonda all ready)

What did I do as we climbed?  I tried spinning which I watched at You Tube as an Alberto Contador strategy.  The climbing was much much easier and I did not feel tired.  I was able to stay close to the leaders.

We had to wait for a while for Master E at the corner of Bacoor and Daang Hari.  We found out he had a flat.  His Hutchinson tubeless tire (installed at Campagnolo rim) at the rear must have had a glass puncture at Paliparan.

He finally arrived in Daang Hari, but near Cerritos  he again ran a flat.  This time he had to install tube.  We did well until we arrived at Belluvue Hotel Alabang center on the way to service road.  He got another puncture and he had to use his second interior.  That was about l:15.   But then the rain came pouring down.  We had to sit out the rain for one hour plus.  We had to ride in the rain.  We caught up with the group near Jollibee just before C6.

By this time, we were all wet and shivering with cold

                                   Master E was saddenned by the flat

                                It was a challenging day for Master E because he had multiflats

Our senior friends we met at Pisong Kape

Are senior citizens just good for making "padyak" and getting a breath of fresh air, or can they still ride competitively?  Can they still get faster and stronger?

Biking and health

Despite that it is Christmas today, about 3 dozens rode today.  Some would be hiding from their god children. Or simply, they love to bike.

Only Pisong kape was open today. Most of the stores/eateries are closed.   I met Master and Tito there.  Tito said he came from Quisao "Titira sana" (ng alin joked Master Edwin) But there was a slight shower, hence he turned back.  I ordered boiled egg for breakfast.

I rode to Malaya and expected that I would not catch with them.  I caught up with them though near Maybancal (near the Simples Lugawan) and rode until home.  There was shower in Cardona.

Tito said he was going to his piggery "Magpapaligo" as we descended the Cardona LLDA hills.  It was Master and I till Angono,  Traffic was heavy in Darangan and Tayuman Barrio Rd.  (I just got the word that Nolite did a round Jalajala.  He arrived  l pm)  He said he had to stop 3 times because it was raining. 

I arrived almost 12.  NO more namamasko by this time.  Only hearty lunch and cold drinks.  Merry Christmas

Our ride today, November 18, 2012

Biking and health

I rode out at about 6: 10 and stopped for a while at Sacred Heart Parish for a brief prayer.  And then bought some suman.  I biked at 34 gear and did spinning.  I overtook an old cyclist at  Callahan and he never pursued me.  I shifted to 53 between Cardona and Morong.  I tried to do interval and hard pedalling to follow the new trend in physical fitness.  Hard intense effort vs. long cardio or aero efforts.

When Master arrived, as usual, we  had to take the salvo of "kantsaw" and lait.  It was our shortcoming.

After the usual lugaw and buchi, we decided:  Allan, Tito, Gerry, and Angeland I to ride to Antipolo because of parade in Angono.  I was with the group when I decided to pee at Sampaguita resort in Teresa.  However, I still manage to pass to younger looking bikers, and another one in Colnago suit, heavily built.   We regrouped and rested at China Bank parking lot in Antipolo.

We were at home by 9:00 am and still managed to watch the parade.

BTW, it is the birthday of Master on November 23,2012.   Happy birthday.

The Legend of Bayabas

I have wondered why a fellow biker is callled Bayabas.  I was with him from Bilibiran up to Morong this morning.  He also joined us on our ride home today.

Edwin, his cousin told me the story:)

When Bayabas was just starting to bike, he ran short of breath while in Mambog.  His cousin saw him and Bayabas said he could not see anything (sign of lack of oxygen going to the brain)   Edwin looked for bayabas (guava leaf) to revive him.  He was advised to go home.

The following week he biked again and this time, Mr. de Leon was more adventurous and went to Morong (at Maybancal.  Again he had the same symptoms.  Edwin was there and he again looked for guava leaves and was able to revive Mr de Leon.

From thereon, he was baptized, a.k.a. "Bayabas"
