Allowed the owner of Villa Sophia at Montevideo to use adjoining lot as parking

Wheels of Happiness

Many small resorts for staycation mushroomed during the pandemic.   For the project we developed that is overlooking the Laguna Lake (it is a good fengshui) this post did not realize that there were that many resorts in that residential subudivion   (As many as twenty)

The owner of Villa Sophia contacted me via the former institutionn I used to work with for a decade.  He needed additional parking space for his resort.   He wanted buy the 400 sm beside his property.   He was willing to pay an exorbitant price for that.  At the same time this post did not want to lose that nice property.  The reason why his resort clicked is that it had such a prime location/vantage point

So why not just allow him to use the lot for a nominal fee.  The owner is an MD at a big and prestigious Medical Center in Pasig and is a gastroenterelogist

This post just charged him the Real Property Tax + % for the 400 sm or merely P10.00 sm.  It was a sweet deal for him

First class repair job by Mario Toledo made an old bike brand new - sharp and responsive

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
5.28.2021

One of the famous names among bike mechanics is Mario Toledo who lives at July St., Crystal East Subdivision at Mambog Binangonan Rizal.  But to reach him, you have to ride up 3 steep hills which is by itself a challenge.  He charges reasonably well.

For servicing the hubs (the free hub which took time to fabricate the springs which were all ready weak) and the front shock (replacing the rubber seals with DIY seals cut from tubes - because not was available)
cleaning the springs, and refiling with oil)  The BN hub repair kit  just axle and cone costs P3,100 at an electronic e commerce.  Other hubs would set you back by P6k to P10 k (if you get the straight pull and with center lock)

The improperly set hubs (not the cones trouble) caused all the wobble and the friction on the rear wheels.  Now the bike is running like brand new - sharp and responsive   A good mechanic makes for a good bike and bike ride   Find a good one for your bike

The front shock, provided it will not do river crossing would be good for a year, and the hubs for another five years.

Thank you Mario for a good job.

My carbon fiber wheelset can be repaired by a local Fiberglass fabricator

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
3.26.2021

Our colleague whom we sent to scout for the carbon bike wheel repair just came and reported that the wheelset can be repaired.  All that they have to do is to build up the rim and sand paper to be flat.

That is nothing compared to big job repair of cut and/or broken wheelset, stays, and even tube.

The workers according to the staff are very young,, and hopefully they will not charge much.

I can only surmise this is their site?    https://rj-bodykits-carbon-fiber-fiberglass.business.site/

However I was quoted a steep price P2,500 for the job.    I negotiated.  Last price is P2,000.  But they will make sure the repair leaves the wheel balanced and flat/even.

                                                    The more high end alternative

However, I just learned that all that they can do is:

1.   Build up the rim;
2.   With another color (not the original one) and the friction part cant be redone
3.   The wheel seem to be a bit twisted (arising from the motorcycle collision last February 1 2020  at Mabalacat.

Reminders of the popular bike color in the Easter Celebration today in my home town - April 1, 2018

Today at the Easter Day Celebration in my hometown, at the salubong/bati, procession, it was observed and this post took photos of the bombardment of the popular bike colors.  It was seen on the saya  of the Tinienta, the dress of the saints, and the saint carriers. There were various shades of green.  There is no escape even on a Holy Day like Easter

Same color theme for the tinienta at the Bati

Other green pictures:

Did an Orig Bike store sponsor this procession?

Prevalent color this morning at the procession

                                            Even the musikeros were green

Medyo ibang shade ito -  Blue...

I climbed the Church in the Sky in Muzon 3x this morning

Wheels of Happiness

Tomorrow, there is a proposed ride  to Lukban Quezon. But the extreme heat now makes the possibility of that dim.  We may get a stroke or something else.  May be some other day.

This morning, our co workers had a PE at Church in the Sky (Christ the KIng) in Muzon Taytay. They walked. I biked (MTB) I had to climb it thrice. First ride up was shaky.  The bike zig zagged, I lost control and I had to get off the bike.

I tried again after the mass, to test whether it was the bike or my knees that had a defect.   None had the defect.  I was able to climb it up to the church without stopping  I met certain Engr Nino a chief surveyor of Sta. Lucia.   Who was 63 and admired I was able to do it.

Then came the last employee who joined and asked her to accompany me up.  I had to climb again.   It was kind of hard practice.

I suppose, very few of the parishioners manage to climb and attend church.    There is a lot of puffing and huffing that goes on.  On the other hand, those who go to church either spends a lot on tricycles, or are very healthy.

Audax 200 km ride is on today; God bless fellow riders

Reminders for the Audax ride

The Audax 200 km ride from Bosoboso, to Jarel, Sampaloc, 2x up and down, then back to Sierra Madre, and Bosoboso is on today, probably having started at 5:00 am today. Idol Ed Valdez did not join because he was not granted a leave. But his ward, a champion rider, a MTB rider probably joined today with other adventurers and halimaw.

Ingat mga kapadyak.  With the heat and the ardous route, and despite 3x practice us Sampaloc, I feel I am not ready.  Other strong riders who feel not joining think this is too challenging.

Fellow riders who are in the vicinity or who are watching;  let us cheer them up or offer food and drinks or dousing of cold water.

A big gathering today September 27, of Recyclists at Simples Lugawan

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
September 27, 2015

Recyclists gathered today in a big way at Simples Lugawan.  There were 13 of us this morning. Please see the rest of the pictures.  After Simples, we proceeded to Pisong Kape in Pililla.  However I peeled off to Tanay.  Thereafter they will proceed to Pangskie Gils post wedding reception  Dona Aurora Angono, Rizal. Congratulations

The tropa was led by Ado and Meong from Morong to Baras.  I tried to chase them up to the hill climb in Baras Tanay boundary but I was the one overtaken (although I overtook a fast riding duo). Riding down to Tanay, though they were never far away (I was not completely) dropped and they were only 5 car lengths away.  However there were too much traffic from opposite (direction) that I was not able to completely get close to the peloton

I biked today to Morong April 9, 2014

Wheels of Happinesse

Angono Rizal  Philippines  | April 9, 2014

It is holiday today, April 9, 2014.  The Philippines celebrate the ignoble defeat of Fil Am Forces under Gen Wainright to the much superior Japanese forces  (Dapat bang icelebrate ang pagkatalo? Sayang naman ang holiday.  We celebrate victories and successes, right?)

So much for that musing.  I biked at 730 and I planned to bike only up to Morong, since it is also the wifeys birthday.  (The age is secret, but it senior plus x) So I ate my usual lugaw with egg there only for P15.00.  After the boundary of Morong and Cardona, I saw the Recyclists who included:  Gerry Y, Jess, Abet, Ven,  Jericho, Gerry K, VM,  and the new ones:  Jimmy and Alan

Sorry guys I had no camera. I left them early at URS in Binangonan because of the birthday party of wife at a bufffet resto in Mandaluyong.  Fortunately, I was not late

I did two rides today: one was am, and the other was a night ride March 6 2014

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   |  March 6, 2014

I did two rides today:

1.  one was am ride to Morong Rizal at 6:20 am and back via the Diversion road ending at 8:00

2.  pm run to Marikina City (to John Wilkes bike shop) at 4:00 pm after Boyeth of Haoooh regrease  the hubs of the Cosmic aero wheelset, ending at 6:50.

Am ride.  I started at 6:20 after passing briefly at Sacred Heart Parish.  I tried to do a 50 x 15 gear on the way to Cardona and Morong.  I did Callahan though at 50 x 21 doing rapid pedalling.   On the way back I passed through the diversion road.  However, I eased up on the gear doing it 34 x 23.  Without other riders, it was quite easy.  No heavy breathing.

Pm ride .  From Haooh I biked through MEG and floodway.  I was at Ligayas by 4:45 and at John Wilkes by 5:00 pm.  John Wilkes sold to me the Exustar cleats for only P350.00 and Shimano for P650.00 and paid them by card.  I paid P50.00 to the mechanic to install the Exustar cleat to my carbon fiber Scott shoes.  He pitied the old cleats which was pretty beaten up.  I had coffee at McDo at Marcos Hiway and biked starting at 6:00 pm via the Imelda hi way.  The traffic was heavy.  at junction, at Brookside and Tikling.  I was home though by 6:50.  I think it was  strong  fast ride home

I also enjoyed badminton and pingpong as alternative sports in our PE activity

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal, PHL   Octobe 27, 2013

We had PE yesterday at the Mormons facility in Angono, Rizal.  We have PE every Saturday to relax, have bonding and team building.

Yesterday, we had badminton and ping pong.  I played badminton with two ladies and it was great way to have them return all the shots.  Now they are becoming better players.  We had long rallies up to 25.   Unlike before they always dropped the shuttle cock early with 2 or 3 returns only.

But I enjoyed most all pingpong.  I have been practicing pingpong (just serving and returning the ball and keeping this in play) for say 30 years.  I have learned some techniques:

1.  Service -  serve with variety of spin:   side spin, underspin and top spin.  For the underspin, serve below the level of the table so that it can be attacked.  The ball bounces low on the other court.  The spin confuses the opponent and makes him commit errors.

2.  Return of serve -  try to return flat;  but when the spin is severe, try to return with the same type of spin that you observe on the server.  And stay focussed on the ball;  sometimes the spin may persist up to the 2nd return.

3.  When you can practice variety.  Try to lob, use top spin.  Return short after long returns so that he will scramble and gasp for breath.  Drill returns to one side then suddenly change direction.  When your opponent is hard hitter, stay away from the table and do chop returns so that you negate his pace.  Insert a spin or two unnoticed as you reurn like side spin.  Throw in you body behind the spin so that it becomes more severe

Fruits in season along bike routes - October 6, 2013 ride

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL  |  October 7, 2013

A lot of fruits in season were on sale yesterday and they were cheap:   rambutan is at P25.00 per kg;  lanzones is P50.00 per kg.   Durian is also aplenty at only P50.00 per kg.

Marang and durian according to the vendor, Gladys de la Cruz are a plenty in Paete, Laguna.  Lanzones and rambutan come from all over Laguna:   Calauang, Famy, Pakil, Pangil, Cavinti;  very few lanzones now grow in Paete.  I have heard very soon, Paete will overtake Davao as durian capital of the PHL.

Those who were selling fruits were found at:   Pililla (Halayhayin) - two sites,  Lagundi - 1 site;   2 sites at Bilibiran (mostly rambutan) and one at Tagpos, Binangonan, Rizal.

Unfortunately for me, I did not have a back pack to place the fruits, so I was not able to buy.

                               This variety sells for P30.00/kg.

Lanzones, today, they will be over ripe

Thanks to public officials for well paved cycling roads

Real Cyclists

                                                Road widening at Pangil

We are thanking DPWH and other public officials for making well paved, smooth roads possible for cyclists in Bugarin, Pililla Tanay, Cardona, Binangonan, Morong, Teresa and Antipolo.  And all of these were done during the election period.

As biked last June 20, 2013, there were a number of projects going on:

l.  Km 63 to 64 (Rizal 2nd district)  -  putting of base coarse on the shoulder.

2.  Km 70 to 71 (Laguna 2nd district)  -  road widening

3. Km  111 to 110 (Laguna 2nd district)  Pangil road widening.

That is why it is such a joy to bike in these areas
