"Ilan taon na po kayo Tay? "(How old are you sir) You can still bike this far and hard?

I was asked this question thrice:   by MTB rider in front of PNPA, by a father of a cadet from Guimba Nueva Ecija who visited his son, manager of Silang Jollibee.  They were wondering how come I was with very young riders?

How come I could still bike this far?

And they were surprised that I declared that I am 66.   Still going strong and steady for 66.

And a fellow rider Gerry remarked that I was better off with the strugglers (4 of them) who arrived some 30 minutes later than the others climbing the Sta Rosa Highway to Tagaytay

This was the third long and hard ride I had for the last 3 months:   Jariel's Peak, Majayjay.   I thought I am done with biking.  But I am not.  Puwedeig pwedi pa

How did I do in the San Felipe ride last October 30 to November 1, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
November 2, 2015

                                        At ASSCOM MP in Apalit

At McDo in SFDO waiting for Etoy Mariposa

                                      At San Felipe bridge

Well I finished one way 195 km and made it back to San Fernando yesterday covering all ready 100+ km on the way back.  But since I did the hardest part of the ride, I decided since it was warm and puffed my self out riding the peloton from San Felipe up to Olongapo, I decided to take the bus, ie Genesis up to Cubao on day 3.  I think I did  330 km since I still had to bike from Cubao to home

On day I, I sometimes led with Jeff from San Fernando up to Lubao Even Netoy passed me in Lubao.

I was the No 3 guy going up to Subic.

I caught up with Etoy when he passed me in Subic and Castillejos due to traffic.

I kept up with Angel sprinting up to intersection of San Felipe doing as much as 40 km/h.

I led the peloton from San Marcelin after catching up with them up to Subic.  I think we made it in record time so that traffic will not be heavy as we pass it.

It was unfortunate though that some riders made remarks to the effect that I am competing with them.  Why are you lagging behind the climbs?  Well I lagged in the two climbs to  Gapo because there were other climb pa as in  Subic.  I wanted to reach the destination without injury and with plenty to spare.  On the way back I tried to test the competitor on the flat, hovering with him for a while, to make sure he pedals faster, and then passing and dropping him.  I made sure that everybody, on the last day understands my ability.  Going up Subic again using fast pedal rate, no one passed me up to the cemetery.

Having led the peloton and pedalling at speeds of 30 to 40 kph for nearly 50 km for over 1.5 hours meant a different energy system and endurance level for me.  The regular sprint, internal training paid off, and the bike that allowed me to do fast pedalling rate

I think I did great.  Congrats to  me.

Recyclist ride to Nasugbu, Batangas on May 1 to 2, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines, May 3, 2015

Its Mayweather Pacman fight today.  Pacman lost to Mayweather by unanimous decision.  But who cares, they earned millions in the fight of the century ($150 million each due to the hype and all the hee hawing etc) It is the time for May weather;  it is May anyway.

But kidding aside, 12 Recyclists labored it out to Naugbu May 1 and 2, a total distance of 240 km both ways, the peak of which was at 40 degrees Centigrade (when we were biking from Tagaytay City on May 1, from 1 pm to 3 pm., and from Daang Hari to home on May 2. Those were the hottest day of the year (will it get hotter than that)

Twelve showed up for this ride:  Armin, Echo, Jess, VM, Master, Joel, Gerry,Vhen, Jimmy, Meong, Jorgeusbiker, and Jeff.  Our Pres Luis did not show because he had LBM and fever as per his text

I rode well yesterday despite feeling ill last Sunday

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  | April 3, 2015

Smith lent me his yellow helmet to complete the all yellow stuff: watch, eyewear, shoes,

I think I did well in the Bisikleta Iglesia yesterday, despite being unable to get off from the bed last Sunday  (March 29, 2015)  That may be due to:   fatigue from Calapan travel Thursday, and Friday and high blood sugar

I was in front, at the peloton at the following stages:

1. From Angono to Taytay (hence I was able to take picture at Iglesia Taytay;

2.  From Junction to Karangalan (together with VM)

3.  From Padre Pio to Sta Clara church  (VM and I were first in the church)

4.  Going down from Balara to Tumana (I was with Gerry Y)

5.  Well I was tasked with showing the way from Concepcion church to the church of the abandoned in San Roque,

and exiiting from San Roque to Tuazon, Sta Lucia and to Junction  (that is why I was able to take their picture at Junction)

Still strong at 64 (senior citizen hehehe - puede pa)

I want to be a better rider despite my advancing age; did I yesterday?

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   |  October 20, 2014

I think and I hope I am right that yesterday was one of my best bike ride ever, considering that I was tired from my commute ride visit to San Fernando La Union before, and ride home today from San Fernando, to Dagupan via San Carlos City. I had complete night rest, had plenty of water and right mindset.

From Angono to Morong

We spun from Angono to Morong.  I rode up to the head of the peloton, and when the group of Argonauts overtook us I gave a chase which I was able to do up to convention center.  The peloton took the cue and they took over the chase chore.  I was able to catch up with VM, Luis and Gerry at Morong (Namay)

I was not able to bike for a week, reason, I could not walk and my right foot was swollen and painful

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  July 21, 2014

Two Mondays ago, my foot was swollen and very painful. I could not stand nor take a step. For three days I was disabled.  I could not get up from bed and could not go to work.  And that meant I could not bike, even the trainer.

I suspected that I I had gout, or that I had a big toe injury.  The Sunday before, I climbed Antipolo.  But there was nothing that indicated that my condition would deteriorate that fast.

Jorgeus Biker had gout?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   July 11 2014

This author thought that like the giants at TDF, he like Cavendish, Froome would be sidelined because of injuries (or even gout)  The two mentioned bikers had to quit Tour de France because of painful injuries.

Jorgeusbiker was still able to bike last Sunday but Monday evening, he could not walk anymore   The big toe was swollen and Tuesday morning could not go to office.  However on Thursday morning, he was able to have blood exam and X ray.  He even saw Pangskie at the diagnostic center (he has high blood and cholesterol)

And lo and behold.  The diagnostics showed the health of Jorgeusbiker to be normal.  He had an injury with his toes which struck the bottom of the bed while on a travel to the north.

He is now mobile and hopes to bike again next week

I was all blue in bike ride yesterday

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   |  April 28, 2014

I realized I was in a handsome all blue uniform:   shirt, shorts and bar tape for the Fuji bike.  Unfortunately, I did not have any picture yesterday.  So using the , and my Coolpix Nikon camera  and its self timer, I posed and had these pictures taken. I had to wear the soiled stuff that smelled of sweat for this photoshoot.

 What is your comment?

Cardona Cherry Blossoms?

Wheels of Happiness

I took pictures of this of this bloom in January.  Are these the equivalent of Cherry Blossoms in temperate countries.  It looks like to me.  What do you think?

It was hard and long (the ride to Lemery yesterday October 27 2013)

Real Cyclists

Post for the Lemery ride, October 27 2013

Our ride yesterday to Lemery Batangas, was hard and long.  My aching muscles and bones, and my sleepiness attest to the fact.

How about the other riders.?

It was 90+ km one way, and it was hard and furious.  VM tells me that that the peloton is now very fast and furious.  If you are left by just 10 meters, then you are left behind.

I can attest to the fact.  I led the group at the service road but once I was left behind at Alabang traffic light, then they were gone.  I led too up to Pontefino in Daang Hari, and Greenwoods..  That was the last time I led.  Fatigue set in.

I slept early after I arrived. I forgot my dinner.  I had it a 9 pm.

Recyclists, kapadyak, do you agree it was long and hardD?

Recyclists and Jorgeusbiker Posing again with Drew Arellano

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal   PHL   |  October 7, 2013

3 As together:   Abet  Andrew and Angel;  Gerry is not an A

We saw again Drew Arellano, a GMA 7 newscaster (he is very new but very popular with Kapuso)  at Pililla  and we invited him for a picture so that he joins the ranks of handsome Recyclists, so that our fans would view his pictures (hahahaha joke)  We managed to get a picture with him, because we were in a hurry.   Armin chickened out at the last minute, although he pointed out Drew again

There were 3As together in the picture;  he was leaving na kasi

Can you beat the Master E and Jorgeusbiker tandem at the back?

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL  September 8, 2013

Eddie Pama likes to stay in front because he practices a lot;  Master E and I stay at the back to street sweep.  We are no match to the heavy legged giants who bike at 40 kmh and more.  We bike for fresh air and some sweat.

But Master E and I do some interesting drafting and change of pacelines.  He leads for about 500 meters and looks back, that is a signal for me to change his place.  After I do my job, I signal with hand for him to replace me.  We did this several times:  going to Cavinti at km 58 to 59.  That is why we were able to stay close to the peloton;   then from Paete to Famy and from Tanay to Morong.
