Coping with vagaries of advancing maturing age

Wheels of Happiness

My getting of cardio pulmonary clearance for an eye operations led to a new set of health problems:   high bp and high bs.  This was revealed in medical dx prior to issuance of clearance.  So for a week, high dosage of anti glycemia drugs.   The blood sugar went down to a respectable 5.5 mol/ml.   And then the HBP.

The diastolic was low,(at high)  however the systolic was high -  140 - 150 and had me worried.  I though my measuring device an omron aneroid sphygmo was having error.   Thus in the consultation yesterday, had my results double checked.  It was indeed high.    At high 140.    Thus the MD prescribed amledopine and today it  is 103/65.  Wow.  It should be as I do freehand exercises daily aside from biking

Non bike post: Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios fight results in draw; crowd disappointed

Wheels of Happiness

The fight earned Pacquiao $5M which is about P250 million, and maybe billions if PPV is included.   It has to be accepted that time catches with every one.  And Pacquiao is not an exception.

Age beginning to matter

Wheels of Happiness

For a month, this post did not bike because of persistent pain on the calf.   This post feared an article that says that the shin bone of a senior snapped while climbing a hill.

Thus this affected my bike ride to to DOMSA last Sunday.   I had to stop 3x because of that fear, and the fear that this post may collapse.

I will be 72 this June and age does seem to matter

I was asked this question thrice:   by MTB rider in front of PNPA, by a father of a cadet from Guimba Nueva Ecija who visited his son, manager of Silang Jollibee.  They were wondering how come I was with very young riders?

How come I could still bike this far?

And they were surprised that I declared that I am 66.   Still going strong and steady for 66.

And a fellow rider Gerry remarked that I was better off with the strugglers (4 of them) who arrived some 30 minutes later than the others climbing the Sta Rosa Highway to Tagaytay

This was the third long and hard ride I had for the last 3 months:   Jariel's Peak, Majayjay.   I thought I am done with biking.  But I am not.  Puwedeig pwedi pa

Papa Rick slowing down - AGE MATTERS

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
June 13, 2017

I caught up with Papa Ric Mancao (84 years old) past km 53 Tanay last Sunday and I had some conversations with him while riding at about 20 kph. I noticed that while was pedaling constantly, he was slowly being left behind.Until I sensed that he was left  very much much behind. Papa Ric is one of the oldest biker in the area who is very much functional

I had Biak na Bato in Pililla as my destination. Then I turned back, made a U turn to go home.I met Papa Ric at the Munisipio of Pililla. That meant that I was ahead of Papa Ric by about 2 km.  or by 2 minutes. It has not happened before. Despite being old before he turned 80, I was not able to overtake him

AGE MATTERS
