Met a politician from Region 3, learned later than he is an avid biker and did several Audax

Wheels of Happiness

Had a meeting this morning with a distinguished just elected (third termer though) provincial official of Region 3 province.  Learned that he is an avid biker; had both MTB and RB but now focuses on RB.   He did several Audax all ready.  He is SIL of my family doctor.

Trigger finger exercises

Wheels of Happiness

The symptoms of trigger finger are:  locked fingers, (cant extend) or extended and cant bend.   It occurs because of over use of finger in braking on bikes, or climbing, or too much computer work.

One such colleague complained of such condition and said she could not bike for a month and may possibly undergo surgery.

This post experienced such, researched YT and followed the exercises recommended.  I do not have trigger finger anymore.

Papa Rick slowing down - AGE MATTERS

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
June 13, 2017

I caught up with Papa Ric Mancao (84 years old) past km 53 Tanay last Sunday and I had some conversations with him while riding at about 20 kph. I noticed that while was pedaling constantly, he was slowly being left behind.Until I sensed that he was left  very much much behind. Papa Ric is one of the oldest biker in the area who is very much functional

I had Biak na Bato in Pililla as my destination. Then I turned back, made a U turn to go home.I met Papa Ric at the Munisipio of Pililla. That meant that I was ahead of Papa Ric by about 2 km.  or by 2 minutes. It has not happened before. Despite being old before he turned 80, I was not able to overtake him

Frequent practice/ride creates oneness with bike and the rider

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
May 28, 2017

For the last two weeks, I have doing at least 3x a week ride and using only road bike.  Constant practice and ride using only one bike unites you with your bike.  Man and machine, bike together.  It is only lately that I have achieved that state of nirvana with my bike.    Your ascent does not take the breath away from you.  You can sprint with minimal effort.  The bike run quietly and silently.   You do not need to shift frequently.  You can ascend the hills on heavy gears.    You can anticipate stops, corner better.  You can ride safely

You must just find time to be able to do this.  Now as semi retired, I can ride longer and more frequently

What is the profile of a typical week-end biker?

Real Cyclists

Rizal   PHL   |  October 20, 2013

As I rode today to Antipolo Church, I wondered what is the typical weekend rider?  What are his demographics psychographics.

I made some hypothesis:

Demographics:   from  Angono, Taytay, Binanonganan, Antipolo, Marikina, Pasig

Age:    30 - 60 years

Typically working, with a job (no one with a job can afford the expensive MTBs and road bikes unless somebody gave it to him), may be overweight, with flabs,

Psychographics:   He bikes for health reasons, to live longer, ward of high BP, cholesterol bs and uric acid.
He likes to show off and invest in expensive bike gadgets, and showy and expensive shoes, biking shorts and jersey.  Typically rides with a group on a weekend.

Many ride up to Antipolo:  to test climbing skills and to go to church.  Two birds with one ride

Many rode today.  There must be over 50 bikers in Antipolo church yard for a single mass (they have 6 masses during the entire day)

I met Rolan from Marikina 61 years old;  he used to play basketball and he rode today for health reasons

Multicolored jerseys worn by bikers attending mass at Antipolo church

Atypical bikers;   they do not mix with the elderly

Bikes and more bikes - they must be worth millions

Repentant and or devoted elderly bikers inside the church

                                  So many bikes

                                     So many biked today

                                More bikes

                                   Another senior biker

Rolan is a 61 year rider;  I am older
