I had two flats when I biked last Wednesday at Calumpang diversion. Blame it on the rain: you cant see the broken glass and the broken glass. Why cant the LGU or DPWH clean the road of broken glass debris.
It was miserable day for me. Fixing the flat, then being flat again. And looking for bike shop and vulcanizing shop. (And even heckled by a Vulcanizing shop owner that I should have brand new tires and interior, instead of attending my problem - some souls could be so cruel and inconsiderate) Hailing tricycles or jeepneys to take me home, to be rebuffed. I had all ready walked two km until Tito Fabay saw me on a motorcycle. He hitched me, initially I put the bike up my shoulder. It was tiring though then I just pulled along side to roll (pretty risky and daunting too when he overtakes and or stops)
And so I had to fix the flat:
1. First, I bought an extra interior tube to replace the punctured interior (as a response to the haughty vulcanizing shop owner)
2. Then I removed the exterior, (a Continental GP) and was difficult to remove because my tire levers were broken. And searched for offending objects. And there it was, a long sliver of broken glass which I failed to feel after the initial flat. It was difficult to remove because it was embedded in the rubber.
3. I patched the two interiors with holes using dry patch. I was not in the mood to go to a vulcanizing shop because it was still raining. One thing that I learned from vulcanizing shops is that dry patch usually work on exterior (of cars) because they do not move during inflation.. But as you inflate the interior, it expands and weakens the patch adhesion to the interior. And so what I did was to do the patch after the interior was inflated.
Lo and behold the patch was successful. and my problem with flat was over. (The obnoxious vulcanizing shop owner was mistaken sayang ang business niya sa akin albeit small)
I thought: I had to replace the conti tires, I would avoid riding in the rain again. I would like to ride at the middle of the road to avoid the broken glass; I had to make soc media comments on broken glass.
But not need to do that, I was able to fix the flat. I am ready to ride again with courage.

My bike ride today: December 27, 2017
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
December 27, 2017
Fields of Quiapo at Morong
I did a 50 km ride (25 km one way: km 27 to km 52) up to Baras Hills. It rained. Its good
I have rain coat. But that did not prevent me from having two flat tire at Calumpang, and I had to walk up to Pantok to look for vulcanizing or bike shop. Unfortunately, none would service my bike
The jeeps and tricycle were full too. I was about to cross Pantok when I saw Tito Fabay
He offered to give me a lift up to Angono. I had to carry the bike on my shoulder which was tiring. At Tayuman, I just guided the bike running side by side with the Motorcycle.
Inihatid ako sa door namin. Salamat Tito.

Tito Fabay does the Diversion loop for his pracice
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
March 23, 2016
Tito Fabay and I joined the PNP race Binangonan, Cardona diversion loop 4x last March 6, 2016. We did practice ride of 3x at the route that is why we thought we could finish it. We did it. Tito finished 8th at the Executive Category. That was a great finish considering that it is 45 above grouping. The 45 (or even below racers) would definitely do better than us. And considering that some even cheated....
So enough for that. I met Tito yesterday en route to Maybancal Morong where Vhen, and Ed was supposed to meet for ride to Manga to buy some parts/accessory. (Ed forgot and did not arrive)
Tito told that his practice yesterday was a 3x loop at diversion. Wow. I should do that sometime.

Tito Fabay and I did 3 loops of the proposed PNP sponsored MTB race route this coming Sunday
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
March 2, 2016
Tito Fabay and I had date this morning 7 am at the URS in Binangonan. We will simulate the race ride of MTB this coming Sunday sponsored by PNP - 4 loops from Binangonan municipal hall area, to Calumpang Manila East Road to Mambog, then to LLDA, right turn towards Look (not via the diversion) to Cardona town proper, to Callahan (the ascent to Queen Mary Hospital) then to Diversion, back to Binangonan town hall. There are 4 ascent there and are killer climbs: Mambog, Callahan, the Diversion, and going up to LLDA. We agreed on that at Richards 40th birthday last February 29, 2016
I rode on the MOSSO Aluminum MTB with XT 42, 34, 24 front chain rings. and 11 to 32 cogs. Tito rode on an MTB with 48, 38, and 28 chain rings. I had lower easier gears befitting a senior rider
We managed to do only 3 (that means kaya pa isa) but its kind of late after the 3rd loop and we decided it quits. I just woke up after 4 hours, indicating how hard the efforts were.
1st loop, we were side by side. Tito overtook me at Mambog, he led on the descent. I caught up with him at the ascent before Iglesia, and then led up Callahan, he overtook me again. We stopped at the entrance of the diversion to fix his seat height. Then on to the diversion climb. He led, he used a heavy gear 38 x 24. Caught up with him near the Fiesta Sunshine subdivision. But on descent he was ahead, and up ot LLDA. The loop took 40 minutes
2nd loop, I overtook him led him near BCC up to Mambog. But he again led me at descent where he was faster. Caught up with him again at short climb before Iglesia and led him till Callahan and dviersion. Repetition of the previous lap. He was stronger at diversion, but again caught up with him at the summit and led him just before the descent. He again was ahead in the descent and LLDA climb. As in the first loop, I did some sprint, 2x averaging 43 to 45 kph at the flats. Using 42 x 11... It took us 30 minutes. We said the championship time would be about 20 to 25 minutes.
It would take us 3 to 5 rides to reach that level of speed and strength
The last loop was pretty much relaxed. It took us 45 minutes to do this. We had pakwan at Mambog and Sonny Baarde who was also on an MTB joined us.
It was a great challenge and great ride.

My practice bike ride to Pililla today October 22, 2014
Wheels of Happiness
Angono, Rizal Philippines | October 22, 2014
I had a practice ride today to Pililla. I left the Sacred Heart Parish at 6:30 am and arrived at KM 58, a distance of 30 km at 7:35. I missed the one hour time by 5 minutes (the standard of Gerry and Armin) I was back at Angono by 9:30. It would have been 9:00 had I not stopped at Morong. I think however that I have been improving with this ride.
There must have been 30 riders (mostly roadies) whom I met today having practice rides. One of them is Tito Fabay whom I met at Pililla.
The other was Tristan, a balikbayan who lives in Bilibiran now, (used to live at San Mateo, California, USA) He says he is running a printing press business

Tito Fabay and I biked to Pililla this morning September 3 2014
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal, Philippines | September 3, 2014
I biked this morning going to Morong direction. I intended to bike only till Morong. I started out 6:30 this morning. At Calumpang I met Tito Fabay and Peter Anonuevo.
Tito gained a lot of weight, far stouter than when he had liver disorder. We should be careful of our liver (re Mark Gil's death from C of the liver)
And so we biked till Morong slowly and had breakfast there. Bubuy arrived when we were about to leave at 8:20.

June l9 ride and Birthday Celebration at Los Banos, Laguna
June l9,20ll
It was raining hard last night until 4 am this morning. I texted Luis whether we push through or not. He replied its rain or rain - tuloy. There were supposed to be 22 guys on this ride but only l5 showed up. Those who were not there were Noe, Nolite, Joel, Ado, Diego, Engr. June, Amigo, and Smith. (You guys missed the fun, the food and drinks.) Surprisingly there was no rain along the route.
We went to the Sacred Heart Parish to pray (that was about 6 am ) all ready. Then biked straight to Pisong Kape where we had lugaw. The next pit stop was at Mabitac waiting shed. Then raced to Paete and stopped in front of carved images store in Paete. We raced with a mountain biker on the way. We had eggs and banana.. Next stop was Pila where we had bj (buko juice). We were finally at the swimming pool in Pansol, Los Banos by about l pm
It was interesting to note that some of the ms of the riders thought it was raining hard on the route. It did not rain except when we were in Caluan.
We welcome the new riders who joined us today: Ben and Tito Fabay. For the ride it was fast and furious from Morong to Pililla, Mabitac to Paete, from Pagsanjan to Pila Laguna.
We had great food: sinigang, fish, tahong. Then swimming in hot bath, drank some GSM, San Mig Light. Alan and Gerry belted out great songs at the Karaoke.
We thank the support group: bunso, bunso Ni Luis, Jerome, Chap, Malou, Jonar, Nida, Cheng, Mark, Jo Anne and all the guys who joined.
The birthday celebrants: Luis, me, and sir VM wish you had fun.
