Wheels of Happiness
Angono, Rizal May 30, 2015
This writer set early for Bugarin today. By 6:30 today, he was past Morong and by 7:00 am was at Pililla. On the way up Pililla, I saw Abet Mateo who would buy beef from Bugarin.
On the way from Morong, he rode with Black Eye Rosario, He said he was close to guys from Angono, especially Julius Rivera (the driver of Jorge Araneta, who perished from a MC accident last Christmas) about 59 y.o and said he was part of the Angono, Taytay, Cainta team. He knew VM. I tried to be ahead of him, but he stuck close even with MTB. When we reached Pisong Kape, he told me we were doing 30 to 40 kph. Wow. I could not believe that.
A senior thinks, rides, solves problems, repairs bikes, thinks discusses about other sports. What senior should do to keep fit

My ride today, May 29, 2015
Wheels of Happiness
I rode today at 5:45 to Morong The mass has not started at Sacred Heart when I passed by.
I passed all but one of the bikers on the road.
I tried these strengthening and speed building training:
1 sprint for 15 seconds rest for 2 minutes 10 reps
2. speeding up while climbing cresting a hill
3. standing on a hard gear climbing up for at least 1 km;
4. hard pedalling say 53 x 14 for 1 minute
I hope I am getting stronger. My butts and legs are sore.
I was back at Angono by 8:30 and was in office by 9:00

Bike ride today to Antipolo City
Wheels of Happiness
I left at 5:30 am for Antipolo City today. There were not too many vehicles and it looked pleasant and safe to bike. But it was light chain ring day. I used 39 x 15 going up to Tower hills, and 39 x 19 up fibertex and caltex and 39x 25 (I have 27) at Beverly hills. All involved standing. Going up the last hill, standing is 39 x23.
That meant more strength and more pedal power. Hooray for a senior going on to be 64 next month.

Wheels of Happiness
This author rode to Pililla the other day. May 26, 2015. For the first time ever, he was able to make it to KM 58 in exactly one hour. He sprinted and time trialled to get the thing done. That means he rode steadily for the 30 km distance at 30 kmh. Before it took him more than an hour: 1 hour 10, 1 hour 15 but never one hour. On a group ride, we did it under one hour: in 55 minutes. But that is a different story all together as a group ride with peloton is more efficient.

Attending appointments riding bike
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines May 19, 2015
I attended a meeting yesterday at Tiendesitas Motor City area. The meeting was scheduled at 7:30. Knowing that it was a Monday morning, and knowing how traffic at C5 has been bad lately (ever since they allowed a traffic light at Lanuza - who thought of that? It was better during BF's time C5 was a haven for motorist, and respite vs. Edsa.)
I decided I would go to the meeting site, riding a bike. True enough, I was there at 7:30. Traffic was all ready bad near the Megawide factory (there is an on going road construction, and the curve is a bottleneck), the Highway 2000 (the automatic mode was over ridden by traffic enforcer), at Stella Maris, and of course at C5.
In the days to come, bike ride would be a better alternative to MC for commuting.
Dont you think so? For many factory and construction workers, bike ride (MTB) has been their way of commuting.

Preparing for the Sagada Ride
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines May 17, 2015
My rides, I hope would prepare me for the 370+ km ride to Sagada. So I left yesterday at 6:30 and arrived at 7:40 in Pililla. The tropa who were at Maybancal (Simples Kape) chased me down and caught up with me at Km 57. Meong caught up with me in uphill between Baras and Tanay however I overtook him at km 53 and he was with the peloton several km later. They were ahead of me by seconds at Halayhayin. All in all, I would have passed two dozen cyclists, mostly MTB
It was big chain ring ride. I stayed at 53 and went down to as low as 25 even when climbing hills. (It is to develop strength)
I proceeded to KM 74 in Jala jala (Halayhayin or Pisong Kape is KM 60) It was light pedalling and easy ride. I was at km 74 at 8:30 and back to Pisong Kape by 9:30. I was in Morong, Maybancal by 10:00 and caught up with the troop. There was free tea and lugaw at the Barangay to celebrate the win of the youth there.

Hill Climbs this week
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines May 16, 2015
As we prepare for the Sagada ride, we need to hone up our hill climbing skills.
Last Tuesday, after missing a ride the entire week, I rode to Morong (up to the market only) and did a hill climb via the diversion in Cardona. This was the third climb in a month and as it was still early and cool, the climb was not very difficult. I did the climb in 34 x 23 with still plenty to spare.
Earlier at Callahan, on the way to Morong I overtook a 26 wheeler lorry, chugging up the hill. I stood up and attacked. The lorry overtook me at Morong all ready.
Last Thursday, I climbed Antipolo. Going up Tower Hills and until fibertex, I climbed 53 x 23, and occasionally 53 x 25.
I dropped to 34 at Beverly but 34 x 19
Over all, I could see over all improvement in my ride.
At Antipolo church, a 60 year old guy who rode an MC inquired about my age, and when I replied I am almost 64 (by June) he was quite surprised. He too rides the MTB to maintain good health

Ready to leave for Angono from Manangquil beach resort in Nasugbu Batangas
Pacman lost to a better more talkative fighter. Will there a rematch for even bigger price money? We are all suckers to as P.T Barnaum said and may be Bob Araum. Nothing is free now; only PPV to view great fights and even $10,000 ringside seats. Thanks to all the hype, events become more expensive
So we rode back yesterday to see the fight. We decided to leave early, considering that the ride back from Tuy was all uphill - 20 km and the heat would sap all our strength. So we decided to sleep early May 1, 2015, wake at 3 am the following day, and leave at 5:30
Most of us woke at 3 am and we had great breakfast cooked by the resort staff. Pritong tuyo, scrambled egg, 3 in 1 Nescafe, and fried rice - left over from last nights dinner of rice and sinigang na buto ng baboy
By 5:30 we were all ready. We left at 5:40 after the prayers. (Someone remarked that Nolite who used to rush people to leave was there - that was me. Defensively I said we agreed on that and it was a duty to remind every one of the agreed schedule)

Recyclist ride to Nasugbu, Batangas on May 1 to 2, 2015
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines, May 3, 2015
Its Mayweather Pacman fight today. Pacman lost to Mayweather by unanimous decision. But who cares, they earned millions in the fight of the century ($150 million each due to the hype and all the hee hawing etc) It is the time for May weather; it is May anyway.
But kidding aside, 12 Recyclists labored it out to Naugbu May 1 and 2, a total distance of 240 km both ways, the peak of which was at 40 degrees Centigrade (when we were biking from Tagaytay City on May 1, from 1 pm to 3 pm., and from Daang Hari to home on May 2. Those were the hottest day of the year (will it get hotter than that)
Twelve showed up for this ride: Armin, Echo, Jess, VM, Master, Joel, Gerry,Vhen, Jimmy, Meong, Jorgeusbiker, and Jeff. Our Pres Luis did not show because he had LBM and fever as per his text
