Nearly collided crashed into MC rider overtaking from the right

Wheels of Happiness

As this post rode out yesterday, getting out of M Diaz, an MC following me suddenly overtook me -  AT THE RIGHT side, startling me, nearing colliding crashing into him as I was brining the bike to the edge of the road.   On a narrow 3 ft wide remaining section of the road, he accelerated and overtook me.

I thought, through my long years of driving a motor vehicle (licensed honest to goodness) it is illegal to overtake from the right.   And so I thought.

Am grateful, I did not meet an accident.   The guy must be told.   Lack of education, lack of knowledge of LTO law.  (How many drivers are like that?)

Crashing at Recyclist Long Ride last February 25 2022

Wheels of Happiness

It was indeed unfortunate that this post crashed in Pagbilao near Lucena city after completing the sojourn to Bitukang Manok. The bike steering suddenly wobbled while avoiding a pothole and it went out of control and lay sprawled on the road.   It was good Tito was there and assisted me.

It was the baddest crash because aside from being painful:   I had two large road rash at the left elbow and left hips plus a very painful shoulder.    The helmet showed some scratches (I did not realize they could not be used anymore)

I was not able to complete the 145 kms or so riding home via San Pablo City.

1,  This post consulted the family doctor last Monday, however the diagnostic test including the x ray was to be only done on Wednesday (no sense of emergency because I was ambulatory.  I did dress my rashes though

2.  The Wednesday diagnostic which cost a lot did not go smoothly because I did not bring my SC card, I had to walk back for it;  the wounds were dressed at the MHO c/o wifes relatives.  The nuse turned out to be a relative also.  I was worried because as of Wednesday, the wounds were still fresh.  The nurse thought that my BS was high

3.  The nurse advised me to buy Supra tulle But got only Para tulle.   She dressed my wounds with this stuff Friday   The pain in the  the wounds seemed to disappear  and the pus seemed to be less.  She said the next dressing would be by Monday.

4. This post got the results:   CBC and x  ray only by Friday.   For CBC, my BS was 11+  and my triglycerides were high.  I had a incomplete fracture at the shoulder and I was referred to the orthopedic surgeon.  However my mobility was OK and pain was not so much.  The orthopedic surgeon was not available that afternoon and would be seen next Thursday.   All I know too was my shoulder was to be immobilized by sling or bandage.

I hope to be fine soon and I am thinking hard on the continuance of my biking

I met VM this morning when I was walking towards Watson to buy wound dressing stuff.  who asked how was I.  I said I was all ready ambulant,  Much of the pain was gone.  He however told me of the sorry state of Met helmet  (which he gave me)   The Met Mips probably saved me from many more serious injuries.  (which we see in many posts where the victim ask for assistance because of serious wounds

This is not frightenother riders.  But to warn others to be aware that accidents do happen and it could be painful.

Fixing the damaged bike from the crash last Sunday

Wheels of Happiness

While my wounds were still aching, I attended to the fixing of the bike that was damaged in the crash with kapadyak Alan in Jalajala. The left side of QR (that is the direction of my fall)  the left pedal were badly scratched.  The handle bar and the wheel were misaligned (not at right angle)  the STI were misaligned and the cover of the STI,  The rear wheel and the axle has a slight play also (the plastic that are coated metallic) was badly scratched too.  No use crying over these ugliness that has befallen the bike.

So although limping, i picked up the hex  wrench and adjusted the STI, handle bar, removed the rear wheel set and tightened the  axle.  It was opportunity to clean the chain and the cogs.

I hope I can have painless knees soon so that I can join the ride this coming week end.  I may use an MTB maybe.

Alan Astorga and I collided in Jalajala, we crashed and I have plenty of rashes to show.

Happy new crash accidents for Alan and myself.

Moments after the crash;  note the
rashes on my knees:   4 on the left, and
                         two on the right.

The Jalajala ride could have an uneventful ride for me/us were it not for the unfortunate incident that involved Alan and me.  We were negotiating a half lane of a road undergoing construction near the boundary of Jalajala and Mabitac.   A Honda just met us head on. some riders who included Alan, digressed into the newly concreted portion.  I and the rest negotiated the left lane.

Alan tried to swerve into our path, his rear wheel hit a rock crashed into me (he must be 80 kgs) and was thrown off with the impact and he was all over me (my pagnanasa)

It was good that the wheel were not twisted but the head post and the STI were thrown off the usual places.  The chain jumped and fortunately for many of the Recyclists around us, repaired the bike pronto.

As for me:   I had rashes on my right wrist on my right knee (two places) my left knee (5 places) and my left arm (one place but 1.5 inches long.

Uhhhhh ang hapdi.   I could not move my left leg and had trouble when waking up.   I spent the whole night and early this morning, dressing my wounds with peroxide (putting garlic juice and sili as per advice of Gerry K) to disinfect the wounds.  I also sprinkled anti biotic powder to supplement the alternative medicine  methods.

Practice ride around Jala Jala and Bugarin - we had to look for Nolite

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
January 8, 2017

We had a practice ride to tune up for Baguio ride.  Some 14 souls answered the invitation:  Nolite, (whom we looked for in Mabitac - he was missing)   Alan, Weng, Angel Balubar (brothers) MinZap (Armin Zapanta - who said walang kakuwenta2 ginagagawa ng MTB)  Luis Genavia, Master E,  Meong, Vhen, Ambet Mateo, Tito Fabay. Gerry K, Jess Verchez,  and myself

Two did not join the ride:   VM Jun Vic and Joel.    7 days they said joined but he elected to ride up Bugarin first and we did not see each other.  (Master E nearly committed the same mistake)

Unfortunately for me and Alan, we collided somewhere in Jalajala where there were road construction. We crashed and Alan was all over/on top of me.  I got multiple rashes and wounds and they are painful.   We ate Lomi in Mabitac and during that time we were looking for Nolite (he turned out to have passed at the short cut from Jalajala to Mabitac.  The peloton caught up with him at Km 69.

The ride is about 130 km long and a good tune up.  We finished about 3:00 plus.

I had to go home on a limp mode.

Ka Recyclists Alan Astorga crashed last week at Antipolo; ingat lagi kapadyak

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
Angono Rizal

According to kapadyak Gerry, Alan Astorga crashed going downhill in Antipolo at first one way section:  where Ado and Nolite crashed before.  His face had injury, and his helmet was destroyed and he had nosebleed.  This could be serious as he experienced head ache.  He was scheduled for CAT SCAN. At the same time, a relative just passed away

We can only say ingat God bless, and be safe always to avoid such accidents.  We know that biking is a risky adventure as all endeavor are.

Our real ride that was cancelled by rain

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines

We had a scheduled ride to Real yesterday.  But it was still raining until 4 am.  I texted Pres Luis and he said the ride was cancelled.  It stopped raining past 5 and then I rode out;  whatever ride will do.

I Tagpos I saw Gerry  and he stopped me.  He asked where were the rest.  And so we decided to continue riding up to Pisong Kape. We were there by 7 which was a pretty fast clip. He said we averaged 25 kph with top speed of of 33 kph.  By 730 I  informed by text Pres Luis that we were there at Pisong Kape, the rain having stopped.  He said "malapit na kami"  And soon enough came:  Chito, Weng, and Ed (idol)

A faulty gear changer/loose chain can be dangerous

Wheels of Happiness

VM told me and he was able to talk to Ado that the reason for the crash in Antipolo, somewhere in one way lanes, when we were in Caliraya was a faulty derailleur that caused his chain to wrap around the rear wheel that caused a sudden stop that caused him to crash.

I think this happened to me at km 52 near the Baras Tanay boundary. The reason here was chain breakage that pulled the rear pulley away and oh yes, I too stopped suddenly.  The good thing was the place where the accident happened was going uphill so the speed was not great.

But I was nearly rear ended by bikers from Binangonan.

So guys watch for those chains  -  check if they are loose, check the nuts, cables of your derailleur, if some of them are coming off...

Maintain your bike well....Ingat....

What was the news about Ado yesterday? He crashed in Antipolo at the one way portion

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  October 6, 2014

The trademark long hair of Ado; the back of the helmet, according to the text to Master was destroyed.

Ado did not join the ride today to Majayjay.  The trio (este quarter - this includes Abet Verchez) Richard, Jericho and Ado had some appointments and errand.

They are happy they did not experience our pain? But they lacked the experience.  Ado at the center (now you are becoming superstition.  Masama 3 sa pic at nasa gitna ha6)

However, while in Majayjay, there were text messages saying that Ado met accident in Antipolo;  he crashed at the one way portion and the back of his helmet was totalled.

Your helmet has an expiration; you have to regularly replace/upgrade it?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal  Philippines  |  January 26, 2014

                                    Humiwalay ang outer skin/shell

Look at what happened to Jeff's helmet  - the outer skin separated from the main styropor body.  Was it because of the cold and heat last Sunday ride at Tagaytay?

Whatever it is, Jeff's helmet is begging for replacement.

We follow the suggestion to replace helmets every two years, or everytime it bangs in a crash.

Be safe;  wear your helmet always.  We heard there was a crash near the Vemar resort and the cyclist does not have a helmet.  It was his second crash, and each time he did not have a helmet.  According to Peter Francisco of Taytay.

Always ride safe; ride conservatively at C6; pedestrians and vehicles can dart out from intersections

Wheels of Happiness

Richard moments after the accident receiving first aid

Angono,  Rizal PHL  |  December 2, 2013
Our ride yesterday would have been a happy occasion were it not marred by a crash at C6 that saw our Richard Ang badly injured.  He had scratches on his right leg, cuts above right eyebrow and bleeding mouth.  A group of three children crossed from the Taguig side to the Lakeside and to avoid crashing into them, he had to brake very hard.  He somersaulted and crashed.

They were doing 40 kph.  They were in the second group that overtook me.  I stopped because I had to take pictures.

The advice is ride safely in areas where pedestrians and vehicles would be careless:  C6, service road, and even Alabang Zapote road.  Give all you have got at Daang Hari, and between Naic and Gen Trias.

We do not have to stop biking.  This is part of biking.  All endeavors have risk.

If we talk about death and injury, they are going to happen everyone what ever they are doing.

We are going  is going to meet accident and death, everyone will meet his creator, but there is time and place for that, but today, we are going to stay healthy and strong through biking.  Today, we will ride to Ternate and Kaybiang tunnel, and no one is going to stop us from this goal.

Richard is going home as he was fetched by his wife; she was not pleased

I hope he is not OK now

Inside the J Sabili Gen Hospital

The Recyclists waiting for news about the condition of Richard

Many met accidents and their creator here at C6

                    Nice Christmas decor at C6, they should install more lights near Napindan bridge up to Highway 2000 which is dark at night;

Pres Luis crashed early on!

Real Cyclists

Injury on the knee of Pres Luis

Pres Luis crashed before the ride started yesterday, while he was negotiating the entrance to Sacred Heart Church.  It is usually the case when the roads are wet.  They are slippery.

That is why, I was even ahead of Pres Luis en route to Bugarin.  His knee was hurting from the rash.

I had a crash this morning, I avoided a Lola and my cleats wont loosen!

Real Cyclists

Morong Rizal  PHL   June 16, 2013

I crashed in Morong Rizal, near the area of the church.

It was because of my new cleats.  I replaced the Shimano cleats with Exustar which is interchangeable with Shimano.  When I left, I made sure that I loosened the pedal tightening screws.

However in Morong, a lola appeared in the middle of the church apparently came from mass, however, she continued into my path and I had to brake very very hard.  I tried to desperately disengage the cleats but it wont and so I had to take the fall.

I loosened the screw some more and sprayed WD 40 today.

So those who use the new cleats, be extra careful

Unfortunate incident - I crashed at the EDSA central fx terminal while waiting for a ride!

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal PHL   |   April 23, 2013

It was an unfortunate accident a week ago.  I was waiting for my ride home after a meeting in Makati;  the waiting for the ride all ready took 1 hour and I had to go to the bathroom.  As I was going to the bathroom, I tripped  while walking in a dark portion of the terminal.  Both of my knees hit the asphalt first;  I skidded and the force tore my denim pants and had scratches on my two knees (two hood  - "tuhod" - Tagalog for knees)

It was unfortunate if not stupid.   My daughter advised me that if magnets are good for the health, I should regularly put magnets over my eyes.  Hahaha. Maybe my eyes are failing.

May be, may I suggest that the Greenfields management either must close this terminal or improve it:

l.  Put more shelter and build  this as a proper terminal;

2.  PUT MORE LIGHTS

3.  PROVIDE SECURITY

I understand many malls and complexes provide terminals as a way of driving traffic to their sites

Its Slippery at Cavinti even when not Wet

Bike and Save the Earth

Two guys crashed in Cavinti.  They were Weng and Chito.  Chito was going down an incline before the bridge, and the road was slippery.  There is moss on the concrete road, even at Japanese garden.  That is where Weng fell.

The roads were slippery even when not wet.

Chito and Weng.  Chito had scrape wound on the knee.

Chito being treated after the crash.  Note the skid marks on his left arm.

Tito could have hit Chito (that is a tongue twister)
