All 3 bikes now functional: S works, Sava Ti, and Pinarello F10

Wheels of Happiness

Before, only the Ti was usable functional bike.  Pinarellos hood was ripped off after a dooring accident;   the Sworks SRAM changer was toast, as well as its rear tires whose side walls had puncture holes.

For the Pinarello, this post had DIY make do solution for the rubber hood cover:   just wrapped old bike interior to make the feel on the right STI (brifter smoother and for aesthetic purpose),

For the S works for the tire used super glue to bond the rubber patch on to the sidewalls.  Now am more confident that I will not get puncture as a I ride.  For the shifter, I bought an electronic changer for the the bike.  Though its not perfect, I can use most of the gears I need:  the front chainring, big and small, and the 36t large cog.

Solved.  Now happy

Constant repairs, upgrade on S works now makes it a darling bike

Wheels of Happiness

S works carbon frame, venge vias bike was a least preferred bike because of many challenges:   weak brakes, untrued wheels, noisy hubs  Non functioning sti and RD

I held the bike since 2016 and was a Peter Sagan model.

However I strived hard to make this A-1

1.  To align the wheel, I researched YT and had 5.5 socket wrench sanded out to be a tool to align the
Cosmic wheel set.  No one dared touch the alignment because there was no tool.  With the tool, it be-
came an ordinary alignment job.  Cheap.  No need to bring this to Greenhill's.

2.  I had new tires 25mm fitted;

3.  For the  SRAM red STI i tried to get BN 10 speed STI.  Fortunately Mario Toledo repaired the broken barrel drum and found the problem to kinked cables which he replaced

4.  As for the crank, disassembled this, cleaned  regreased this.  However the crank bolt kept coming off
A stronger push on the 14 mm made sure it would not get loose again

5.  Centered the V brake and had a barrel adjuster for the rear brake to get this finely adjusted

6.  Disassembled  the rear hub repaired the pawls, regreased the bearing and oiled the pawls.  Spent             some  time perfecting the pre load and centering the wheel in the bike

But finally got things right.  It now runs as smooth as a better.  And is equal to or better than Pinarello

Temporary repair of STI hoods

Wheels of

Rizal Philippines
February 12, 2018

Made cut from old unserviceable MTB interior

I came across the suggestion/post of Bobby Cruise on how to make temporary repair of STI hoods, especially if  you cant find the hood. The hood also costs a lot: P550 to P600.00 if you find one.  Orlando Mendoza, and Mr. Cancejo sell these stuff.

I wanted to buy a new GS (while mine still works fine) for the simple reason that the hood is ugly, sticky, it soils the mitt and I feel uneasy about this.

The  kapadyaks made recommendation to invest in a new group set. (kay Per Marquez of 168 P21.499 only? Mas magaan 6800 kaysa RS8000)

But that desire to buy a new one has diminished because  I made a great repair. Hindi na ako agressivo na magcanvass ng bagong group set The first try was disaster.  As they say, try and try until  you get it OK 100%

Fixing the damaged bike from the crash last Sunday

While my wounds were still aching, I attended to the fixing of the bike that was damaged in the crash with kapadyak Alan in Jalajala. The left side of QR (that is the direction of my fall)  the left pedal were badly scratched.  The handle bar and the wheel were misaligned (not at right angle)  the STI were misaligned and the cover of the STI,  The rear wheel and the axle has a slight play also (the plastic that are coated metallic) was badly scratched too.  No use crying over these ugliness that has befallen the bike.

So although limping, i picked up the hex  wrench and adjusted the STI, handle bar, removed the rear wheel set and tightened the  axle.  It was opportunity to clean the chain and the cogs.

I hope I can have painless knees soon so that I can join the ride this coming week end.  I may use an MTB maybe.

How the 6 drops of oil saved me P6,000 (buying a new STI)

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
September 13, 2016

I am very much bothered by my malfunctioning 6700 Ultegra STI.  It was a very new 2nd hand when I bought it 5 years ago from my brother (it came with an FSA carbon crank)  brakes, FD and RD.

The main problem is with left STI (for the FD)  It would shift to the large chain ring.  But shifting down the small chain ring is a sometimes affair. Kailangang timingan.

What were done:

1.  I tried to overhaul it (I opened the guts but found nothing wrong)

2. Ibinababad sa WD 40 at gas.  But nothing much improved.

3.  Looked at the groups selling STI.  I was tempted to buy even 105 STI

But yesterday, I put 3 drops of oil to each of the STI, and lo and behold they worked perfectly again.

Just 6 drops of oil

Test trial of my SARS Hill Climber

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal Philippines

                                               Deore triplet crank

Sora rear long cage roller, and STX ten speed 11 x 36

Rear view of the finished project

Ever since we came from Benguet, Mt Province, and Sagada where we quit some of the stages, I vowed that we would return with a bike with gears suited to the grade.  MTB only will do.

So I upgraded/converted my SARS bike to be my hill climber:

Here are the mods:

1. Removed the FSA 53 x 39 crank and replaced it with Deore triplet with 175 mm arm, 44 32, 22

2.  Outfitted a 3 way SORA sti, removed the front left Ultegra 2 way STI

3.  Replaced the ultegra rear roller with a Sora long cage rear roller
