Today I biked to Manga just to get the helmet which I promised to get today.  It is Specialized Prevail which the seller priced very low.  It light and nice. Who would say that I bought it only at said price.

Madaling mabenta ang helmet na ito.  3 daw nabenta niya bago ako dumating ng 9 am.

Some say there are tig P1,200 in Quiapo but are tsambahan. To be sure go to Manga Sumulong highway. Antipolo City near Palos Verdes

What was the news about Ado yesterday? He crashed in Antipolo at the one way portion

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  October 6, 2014

The trademark long hair of Ado; the back of the helmet, according to the text to Master was destroyed.

Ado did not join the ride today to Majayjay.  The trio (este quarter - this includes Abet Verchez) Richard, Jericho and Ado had some appointments and errand.

They are happy they did not experience our pain? But they lacked the experience.  Ado at the center (now you are becoming superstition.  Masama 3 sa pic at nasa gitna ha6)

However, while in Majayjay, there were text messages saying that Ado met accident in Antipolo;  he crashed at the one way portion and the back of his helmet was totalled.

Looking guwapo and like artista when wearing cycling uniform

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal  Philippines   I   August 25, 2014

I have been getting very encouraging, heart warming comments from friends whenever they see us wear our jersey uniforms.

1. Bong Baysa remarked yesterday that he thought he saw a "movie star"  he could not recognize me yesterday when we met each other at the Angono bridge undergoing rebuilding at about 6 am.   (Well maybe Bong was recovering from sickness.

2.  Lugaw vendor (wife of Popoy) said she was surprised that a "Pyolo Pascual" clone was buying lugaw from her store;

3. Many friends say we look younger by 10 years when we wear the colorful jersey uniform, the helmet and the very expensive eyewear.

Truly clothes make a man. And this appearance may attract more fairer sex.  So I thought as we get glances from ladies even at Antipolo church.

I finally got the eyewear repair kit from Spyder

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal, Philippines   |  March 28, 2014

I finally got the repair kit  for Spyder  at SM Tayta yesterday and had it installed immediately.

Total cost:

1.  eyeglass -  P395.00

2.  nosepad        99.00

3  cleaner        120.00

Total                624.00

I had to wait for one month before the order for the parts arrived.  It was worth the wait because they came in perfectly.   Spyder has good line of eyewear and it starts at P1,600.  (but they are designed for safety) and helmets (the lowest is at P2,000)

Their carbon fiber version is a P3,400.00 (vs Bell at P9,000)

World Cycling Championship (WCC) colors on my helmet

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal, Philippines    |  February 3, 2014

For several nights last week, I worked very hard on putting the UCC World Cycling Championship colors on my 3 helmets.  It is tedious and detailed job, a  lot of trial and error.  I bought P120 worth of reflectorized stickers, about 20 hours of work for this miniscule output.  I  am happy though.

The colors gave new life, interest on my otherwise soiled, and old helmets.

Am I boasting?

A convenient (but expensive ) safe way to take pictures - helmet mounted camera

Wheels of Happiness

That is the very expensive helmet mounted camera to the right of his helmet

Rizal Philippines |  January 26 2014

This is the second time we saw somebody with a helmet mounted camera.  This time this is Boyeth from the Taytay cyclists.  A lot followed him but unfortunately, the battery was dead.  Hahaha.  Always charge your batteries.

That is the problem with these cameras:  they are very expensive  (say $500.00)  P20t plus and drains battery fast.

The last time it was Rolf, an ROV pilot at Singapore who is from Paranaque. I never saw him again?  He was with Edgar.

If I can copy the mount?!

Nice to see you again Sec Noe

Rizal, Philippines   |  January 26 2014

Secx Noe also so happy to see us!

It is so nice to see Sec Noe at Morong.  I am glad that people are rejoining us and enjoy with us the medicine for long life and good health.  Well Secx Noe rides my old Fuji bike.  So his bike reminds me of a nice bike of yore.

I hope he stays with us every week end.

Our ride next week will be at Lucban.  That will on Feb 2 2014.  I will be in Iloilo because of a teaching assignment.  So sorry to miss this ride.

UCI World Cycling Championship colors and new helmets with the colors

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal   |  Philippines   |  January 26, 2014

My helmet at the bottom;  VMs expensive helmet on top with WCC colors

I tried to redecorate my old helmets with stickers.  What I did not know was that the trendy helmet colors came from the World Cycling Championship.  VM showed me his Specialized helmet. And it bore teh correct colors:

Blue
Red
Black
Yellow
Green

In that order.   So I have to change my stickers to look trendy.

Can you afford this;  but we can copy the stickers right?

Your helmet has an expiration; you have to regularly replace/upgrade it?

                                    Humiwalay ang outer skin/shell

Look at what happened to Jeff's helmet  - the outer skin separated from the main styropor body.  Was it because of the cold and heat last Sunday ride at Tagaytay?

Whatever it is, Jeff's helmet is begging for replacement.

We follow the suggestion to replace helmets every two years, or everytime it bangs in a crash.

Be safe;  wear your helmet always.  We heard there was a crash near the Vemar resort and the cyclist does not have a helmet.  It was his second crash, and each time he did not have a helmet.  According to Peter Francisco of Taytay.

My evaluation of the new Giro helmet

Wheels of Happiness

January 18, 2014.

It is not the official Giro light version.  The light version is about 192 grams. It looks to be less than 200 grams.  Most helmets weigh 300 grams or more.  Hefty price, hefty weight.   Mine is light too.  It feels like I am just wearing a baseball cap when I am using this.

It may not look as sturdy and robust as the Spyder helmet which has a carbon fiber frame.  But it is very light.  And is cooler too.  While it has 20 holes just like the Spyder helmet, it has bigger bigger holes which make for more airflow and cooler head

My New Helmet - Giro, cheaper and lighter

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal, Philippines |  January 14, 2014

I invested in a new helmet last week and bought it on CC at Bike 101 in Marcos Highway near Robinson, together with a carbon fiber style bar tape and and insulated water bottle (to keep drink cold) all for P2,200.00.  The Giro helmet set me back by P1,500.00 but is lighter (and cheaper) than my old Spyder helmet whose plastic attachment to the strap keeps breaking up.

Repairing my Spyder Helmet

Real Cyclists

Angono Rizal  PHL  11/11/2013

The black parts to the rear right and left were the affected parts

Ever since I had an accident (I fell off the bike after its front wheel got caught in the drainage gratings in front of Starbucks in Shangri La Edsa) I paid close attention to my head gear.  If I did not wear my helmet at that time, I would not be posting here.  So I bought i Spyder head gear which set me back by several thousands.

However, for two months now, I am bothered by the two tears at the plastic attachment of the polyurethane part to the straps.  The attachment enables you to tighten or loosen the strap.

Since I heard Cataps has done of many miracle work on expensive helmets using nothing more than plastic from used containers and Mighty Bond, I consulted him yesterday at Morong, Rizal at a pitstop. He enumerated to me the process.  So we agreed, if my repair failed, he I would bring the helmet to him.  So on the way back, I bought Mighty Bond which set me back by P48.00.  (My helmet cost me P2,700) about 2 years ago.

Yesterday afternoon, I tried the repair, and judging from the pictures, I think I was successful.
