I try to ride at least 3x a week.   That will keep my Basal Metabolic Rate at little bit higher and let me burn fat while resting (but it gives me BO when the perspiration invites germs to grow.  Thus I biked Tuesday, Wednesday and today.  I will bike again tomorrow
.
On those occasions, I saw Jimmy twice and Supremo Armin once.  But he climbed SCH twice  He descended and climbed again and met him again as I was descending.

For the last two rides, I made two hill climbs (and they were not easy)   SCH antenna and SCH.  I went up SCH via gate two on a 32 x 36 gear.  I did poorly at Eastridge.  I had to dismount 2 x doing granny gears.  The bikers from Taguig admired that I was able to ascend the final 100 meters up to the guard house without stopping.  They stopped and rest and had to do cross stitch while climbing

I think it was Sec. Noe who joked about me as the owner of the said store, for the great things I said about the store,   Then the owner himself said a buyer was looking for me as he bought from the store, thinking too that this post owned the store.   The other day, Wednesday, it was Supremo whom I met while I was descending SCH antenna who also thought the same and was asking for a discount on top of the very low price that is being offered in the store.

I told him that I am not the owner of the store and I will call text the owner:   Mr. Glenn Diestro.  He said he will buy entry level MTB say XIX or Trinx.  I later called up Glenn who said he will take care of Supremo Armin Zapanta

It is Mr Glenn Diestro who owns the store,  He is an entrepreneur from Angono. He will answer the cp that is listed on the post

I rode up to SCH this morning, after passing by at Sacred Heart Parish

On the way to Tolentino, I came across Pablo tsinelas, the strong rider from Leyte who wins in competitions. Surprisingly, he was using 24 chain ring;  I was using 32 x 32 going up.  Well he left me before the water tank;   I got near other MTB riders and even passed some of them  They were in their grannies

On the way down, I met Armin  Zap (supremo) whom I learned will be doing a reverse Jarrel peak ride via Infanta  He said he will say hello to the Recyclists who are going to stay over night at Real.

I said I may not be able to join the group because of the extreme heat at around 10 am.  It is a deadly environment for an elderly because there are news of deaths

There is a planned ride to Baguio again and will include Val, Gerry, Jeff, and who else.  May be me.  It is Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Maundy Saturday.  So what bike to bring.

I asked the opinion of Armin Zapanta who joined us using a road bike, and went with his MTB friends using MTB on a tour of the north.  Would it be ok to bring an MTB which I just bought.  The MTB has enough low gears to enable us to climb the steep Kennon road.

This is what he said:   it is double the effort on the flats (because of the heavier weight and friction from the large fat tires) and even more so in climbing.   Laspagan.  So it is not adviseable.

So there I go again I tore the  53 -39 crank chain ring, the 12 - 28 gears and replaced them with Deore triplet, and 11 to 36 gear set.  The gears and combination I used for the San Felipe trip.

I guess that will be the right bike to bring?  Light for the flats with 44 x 11 at about 100 gear inches, good enough to catch the halimaw on flats and 32 x 32 for 26 gear inches at the Lions head.

There I met JJ and Armin.  It is nice to see people practicing on weekdays.    JJ brought his Mt. Bike and Armin his carbon fiber outfit

We heard mass, and Armin gave me some bananas. He said that cashew nuts and banana go very well for good health  I said bikers are better off in giving away bananas  Laughter.

And then I immediately went home so that we can work

We had lunch at Armin Z's place in Bloomingdale Homes after biking to the 7th church in Angono;  the 6 other churches we visited were that of Quisao, Pililla, main church of Pililla, Tanay, Baras, Morong and Cardona

Nolite and Vic did not join us at lunch.  Those who joined the traditional ride were:  VM, Pres Luis, Gerry  K, Gerry Y, Weng and Angel Balubar, Jess Verchez, Armin and Archie Zapanta, Master E, Ado Gonzaga, (mangkin pala siya ni Tita Lita) Jorgeusbiker, Vic, Richard, Val, Chito F,  Nolite, Ven, Secx, Alan, Joel

                                Fine view at KM 51, a great day to bike

I left at about 6:45 and passed by as usual at Sacred Heart Parish in Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal to pray and get blessings from Fr. Willy.  It was the feast of Immaculate Concepcion.  After the blessing, "Ite missa est"  I started my ride.  A group of Taytay riders was passed by the moment I stepped out of church yard and I gave a chase.  They were not doing so fast, maybe 29 to 31 and I caught up with them near Tagpos and even went up ahead of their peloton in Bilibiran.  There I overtook Ben.  I guessed Ben did not recognize me.  Then I waited for Ben in Darangan, and he recognized me this time.  We rode slowly until Mambog.  I surged until the top.

In Cardona, Choco2 and VM caught up with us.  They were again with a group of hard riding Taytay riders and they were sweating profusely.   At Callahan, I tried to attack VM who was ahead.  I was on 50 x 19 and spun.  I was ahead until the Queen Mary hospital, Choco attacked and I tried to chase him.  Downhill, VM passed me.  Immediately after descending, at the last curve, I attacked the two and passed Choco2 who was ahead.  Near Bagombon, the duo passed me and I waited for Ben to arrive.  I was able to take his picture pa.

Then lugaw at Simples.  That was about 8:00 am .  At about 8: 15, we left for Pisong kape.    I was at the rear of the first group.  I again chased the group, and Vic was in front of him.  Past Lagundi, I overtook the first peloton, and I stopped their picture at KM 50 in Baras.  I gave a chase again, and I saw that Ernie Mariposa (the father of Choco2) and Vic lost steam and were left behind.   I did not  catch the rest.  But at km 59, I stopped, waited to take pictures of others.  I was surprised that I was ahead of VM, Master E, Edgar, Sigmond Ado.  I took their pictures.  It was unusual for me to be ahead and take pictures.

I left the group at at Pisong Kape at about 9+ to ride up to Bugarin.  I employed the large chain ring.  I pedaled at 50 x 23, or 50x25.  That made my legs and thighs cry in pain again.  But I compensated by riding slowly.

On the way back, I came across a group of 3:   one lady and 2 Caucasians all on  TT or tribikes.  I gave chase and even passed them uphill at Maybancal (from DPWH up to barangay hall).  This time I can give a chase.  I can surge and even attack.  (Yabang po)

Unfortunately, the Bugarin ride made me come late for Armin's birthday celebration.

As we biked today, while in Taytay, I told Armin (aka VV) that his bike price (Specialized Tarmac) is at $USD 9,000.00 Oh no he said.  He got his from Christies (whose link is at the sidebar here) at only 10x in PHP.

VM told me too that a trek of the same model, a Trek, could be had for only PHP 40,000 (second hand though) wow. It is also priced at USD 9,000.00

Wow, therefore, prices at Christies are competitive

Belated Happy Birthday to Armin yesterday

I was texted yesterday that it was Armin's birthday yesterday.

However, I failed to respond to that text because I had grad school class yesterday and later the Ruby anniversary (40th year) of college class of l972 in Loyola Hts. QC.  And I came home late.

Belated Happy birthday Armin. I guess, my being at your daughter's birthday could take place of yesterday's absence

So far I have not joined:   the Jalajala ride (I came home late from the Palawan trip) and the Quezon trip (I left for Palawan)

I heard the food was good and there was lot of drinking.

Biking and health

When Luis arrived at Morong, he spoke aloud that Armin's daughter is celebrating her  7th birthday at Brent Ville in Dona Justo today at 3 pm. Her name is Julia Sherlene.

I did not clarify that until  about 2:45 when I was driving from Makati.  Am I being invited;  sure Pareng Luis said.

And so  I went.  Archie, Armin's brother was there and Luis were there.

Armin's parents in law are Emy Villamayor, a contemporary, and Toti, the brother of Bong Roan who is the husband of my sister.

The venue is owned by Osek Capistrano  and Atilano Villamayor who used to work at Unilab.  Investment at the Brent Ville Venue was his retirement pay.

There were usual game and the merienda (quite heavy) consisting of spaghetti, lechon,  chicken pastel, beef, chopsuey, leche plan and buko pandan (also with dirty ice cream) was served at 5 pm.  There were about 80 guests, mostly young children and we hoped we were not out of place

Many Bike Addicts Rode Today, December 4, 2011 Despite the Rain

Bikers are jorgeus and have more fun....

It was dark when I left at 630 am.  When I reached Tayuman, Binangonan Rizal, it started to have a light drizzle.  When I reached Cardona some areas were dry.  But by the time I was in Morong, it was raining.  But despite that many bike riders souls braved the rain.  As a matter of fact, on the way back at about 830 am. we met a pack of about 50 complete with Team Vehicle, wearing black, white and blue jersey in Binangonan, Rizal.  Because it was raining hard by that time, we shouted, " Addict".  Hehehe.  as if were not addicts....

We have a new member in the person of Armin Zapanta.  He was introduced by Smith to us this morning at Simples Lugawan at Maybancal.  He has a Giant Bike frame.  He is from Bloomingdale Homes.  And he looks like he is a  very strong rider.  I hope he likes us and we look forward ot more rides with him.

November 13 2011 Ride

As expected, there were plenty of early bikers. Many went to Antipolo church. There were so many bikers at Antipolo church. Maybe they were praying for the victory of Manny Pacquiao vs Marquez (today is l2th USA time)


l. We just did a Morong Teresa Ride. We took off at 8 from Maybancal Morong and was at Antipolo church by 8:30. We went down at 9:00 am; we did not finish the mass and we were home by 9:30

2. Master noted that I missed his name in the Luisiana ride. Sorrryyy. It is the price we have to pay for getting younger

3. Many noted that there were no posts. I am sorry; was out of town and had no baggage allowance; did not bring laptop and the schedule abroad was hectic


4. We welcome a new friend: Armin Zapanta from Bloomingdale Homes and comes armed with a Giant bike and he is strong. He is an MTB rider.

5.  I met and conversed with Erning of  Concepcion Marikina.  He had a designer bike all done in pink color.  He said hiss bike is like a comics and has a story to tell.  With him was Mr. Rommel Cruz, the brother of Fr. Rodney Cruz, the former parish priest of Angono, where I live.  Fr. Rodney is now assigned at San Mateo Rizal.  Regards to Fr. Rodney.
