Buying breakfast and pan de sal during a typhoon

Wheels of Happiness

This morning, this post braved the heavy rain and strong winds to buy pansit and pan de sal from my suki near wawa.   The vendors praised me for braving the bad weather to buy.  I too praised them for having business as usual.   Typhoon Enteng's wrath?

I feared though for the BB, and headset bearing.    Well, I wiped the bike dry and trained the electric fan to dry the moisture.

Avoid using your bike in the rain or flooded area; be sure to disassemble and remove grit and rust afterwards

Wheels of Happiness

Went to Mario Toledo to have my expensive RB serviced.   I thought that it was due to for servicing since it has been 5 years since it was built.

You only need a 10 mm hex to remove the crank assembly (for Campy) But the difficulty was due to it being stuck and a lot of convincing (pounding softly) was needed.  There were lots of mud at the spindle and the left bearing was busted.

This must have been caused by the 400 km bike to Bicol because the first 2 days was rained out.

So he advised that the crank bolt must be removed reinstalled periodically or that crank servicing will be made more frequent.

The rear wheel also had slight play.   It turned out that an end cap needed tightening.

To ride or not to ride when it is raining

Wheels of Happiness

Biking in the rain is more dangerous than riding in dry conditions for an obvious reason: slippery when wet. The road itself is slicker, and so are trail obstacles. Painted surfaces and metal road features are like ice.13 Aug 2021

It is raining today.  And some gc members would like to ride.  But after a decade or so riding, may I suggest not to ride when it rains:

    1.  Roads are slippery when it rains and you are prone to crash especially if you ride over
man hole cover, steel gratings, road signs.

   2.   The water may get into the cables, bearings bolts and nuts cause rust and speed up many                              malfunctions like stuck up bearing.    The bike can seize be dysfunctional and require
expensive repair and/or replacement of parts.

So better stay home and engage in other types of exercise:  stationary bike, weight lifting, calisthenics..

#Kneepain after hard ride to #Pililla last Wednesday due to the #rain?

Wheels of Happiness

I had a hard a la TT ride to Pililla Pisong Kape last Wednesday. Unfortunately it rained hard when I reached Morong and it rained more when I reached Baras.

When I arrived later in the pm, I had knee pain  The whole day Thursday, I had a bandage and many balms wiped over the knee.  It could have been caused by strain or cold rain.

Fortunately yesterday pm, my right knee was mobile and there was no pain.  So I could join the Real Ride.  Thanks be to the Lord.

I enjoy riding in slight rain, do you?

Rain clouds and rain at Famy;  we had to stop and seek shelter

Angono, Rizal  PHL  |  September 8, 2013

It rained a lot on our bike ride today and I wonder mostly in Famy area.  Going to Cavinti in the monring, it rained.  After lunch biking from Famy to Bugarin, it rained again.

I enjoy riding in slight shower or drizzle.  It is cool;  your body is not stressed out by too much heat, especially when climbing.   However come out with dirty jersey and bike and that means a lot of washing.

Richard and Gerry wore their ponchos from Famy to Bugarin;  but I advised them it is going to be hot and they will perspire underneath the poncho.  When they wore the poncho, the rain stopped.

Do you want your children studying at UST or FEU have home away from home?

What about you?

There was this typhoon Gorio that forced us to stay indoors; Gorio Go Away

Real Cyclists

Rizal PHL   |  June 30 2013

Just as anticipated, it will still rain today.  It is all ready 730 and despite the fact that the pump, spare interior, the toolsets, the jersey, the bike, the water bottle, the gloves are ready, all we can do is fume and maybe just ride the stationary biker.

I hope the weather gets better tomorrow.

What are you going to do today, Recyclists?   Fellow biker?

Just watch TV?

Very few biked today because of the rain - March 3, 2013

Real Cyclists

Morong, Rizal  PHL    |  March 3, 2013

We had the Maybancal barangay all to ourselves;  at this time, it used to be bumper to bumper

Very few biked today because of heavy overcast weather;  it rained in Angono and Tayuman;  and according to other bikers, in Taytay too.  I stopped at Sacred Heart Church as the rain shower became a torrent.  After 5 minutes, the rain stopped.  I continued biking and lo and behold, there was no rain in Binangonan, Cardona and Morong.

Tough luck for Simples Lugawan -  few bikers means few customers and revenues

We planned to maki fiesta at Teresa.  But since it was early yet, Prez decided to go to Pililla first for advance Bisikleta Iglesia to Nazareno in Pililla

Those who biked:  Luis, Chito, Jess, Armin, Master, Jeff, Ben, Jorgeusbiker, Jun Y, Tito, Papa Ric, Gerry Alan.

Those who did not come:   VM, Archie, Weng, Angel, Joel, Engr June, Richard, Schmitt, Secx

We will bike via downtown, not the highway for a change

I tried to Ride to Join them to Sierra Madre, but it Rained Harder and was Chilly

Bike and Save the Earth

I woke up at 5:30 and tried to make it to the rendezvous point although there was a slight drizzle.  I stayed for l0 minutes at Knights and Archers and tried to text Luis.  Then I biked towards the Sacred Heart Church in Tayuman.  As I biked the shower became rain and the wind was chilly. (Anyway,  it was reported that there was a typhoon in Mindanao -  typhoon in December?)  I just decided to pay a visit the church and called it a day.  There will be other days to to climb Sampaloc/  Sierra Madre again.  When I arrived, Luis texted me he he was in Cardona, two towns away.  Maybe I came a little bit late to the rallying point.

Anyway, our class, Class 72 will be sponsoring a mass for Simbang Gabi at Church of Gesu at Ateneo.  It is better to be rested.  I was tired from a former student's wedding at San Agustin church in Intramuros.  We arrived ll:30.  Here are some images of today's rainy day:

P.S.:   I talked to Cataps yesterday and from him I learned that despite the heavy rains, they went ahead with the ride to Sierra Madre via Sampaloc:    Gerry, Luis, Tito, Armin Z, and  Allan.  Wow!

Many Bike Addicts Rode Today, December 4, 2011 Despite the Rain

Bikers are jorgeus and have more fun....

It was dark when I left at 630 am.  When I reached Tayuman, Binangonan Rizal, it started to have a light drizzle.  When I reached Cardona some areas were dry.  But by the time I was in Morong, it was raining.  But despite that many bike riders souls braved the rain.  As a matter of fact, on the way back at about 830 am. we met a pack of about 50 complete with Team Vehicle, wearing black, white and blue jersey in Binangonan, Rizal.  Because it was raining hard by that time, we shouted, " Addict".  Hehehe.  as if were not addicts....

Here are some pictures of today's ride, December 4, 2011:
