Wheels of Happiness
One of the observations among cyclists is that they have large abdomen. The riding wont remove the flabs or fats. But perhaps, these exercises will. They will be better looking too. And you will get stronger and faster too:
A senior thinks, rides, solves problems, repairs bikes, thinks discusses about other sports. What senior should do to keep fit

Are you an avid Mountain Dew consumer? Do you know its ill effects?

We drink a lot of Mt Dew when we ride

It is the feast of Immaculate Concepcion
I used to order Mountain dew a lot at Simples Lugawan early on, but not after I read these articles. Many still order a lot of Mountain Dew. Beware mga kapadyaks
From Red Devil Review
Well it contains High Fructose Corn Syrup which can cause obesity and diabetes, brominated vegetable oil (which gives mountain dew its cloudy look) which cause depression of thyroid function and the yellow dye tartarazine which can cause a lot of reaction It is banned in Norway, Germany and Austria.
The HFCS is responsible for flabs and weight gain despite our hard ride and sweating. HFCS disturbs our leptin balance, give us great hunger pangs which cause us to eat more. Thus despite the exercise, we gain and we want loss of weight. HFCS is the culprit and you can just see in the post how much sugar is in each serving of MD
Here are excerpts of the post:
Another scary ingredient is called Brominated Vegetable oil. It’s a vegetable oil that has atoms of elemental bromine bonded to it. It is used in Mt. Dew as an emulsifier (stabilizes the combining of two *unblendable* substances). It is what gives drinks that cloudy look. In this case it helps keep fat-soluble citrus flavorings suspended in the drink. Brominated vegetable oil is rightly banned in over 100 countries because of the known side effects of bromine on human beings. Bromine is a halogen and displaces iodine, which can depress thyroid function, as well as known side effects such as: depression, memory loss, hallucinations, violent tendencies, psychosis, seizures, cerebral atrophy, acute irritability, tremors, ataxia, confusion, loss of peripheral vision, slurred speech, stupor, tendon reflex changes, photophobia due to enlarged pupils, extensor plantar responses, fatigue, lethargy, loss of muscle coordination, headache, testicular damage, and stunted growth.
It definitely doesn’t sound like something I’d like in my soda.
The last unhealthy ingredient in Mountain Dew I’m going to talk about is Yellow Dye #5(Tartrazine) This product has been banned for usage in Norway, Austria and Germany. It is extracted from coal tar. Tartrazine seems to cause the most allergic and intolerance reactions of all the azo dyes. Symptoms of this can include anxiety, migraines, clinical depression, blurred vision, itching, general weakness, heatwaves, feeling of suffocation, purple skin patches, and sleep disturbance. Other symptoms include asthma and mild rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passageways mostly with discharge).
Don’t get me wrong, Mountain Dew was my favorite pop at one point, but after doing a week of research, its now no longer a part of my diet. Drinking a soda with those kind of side effects doesn’t seem worth it to me.
From Hoax or Fact - BVO is a fire retardant, and make your innard fireproof
There’s flame retardant in your Mountain Dew. That soda with the lime-green hue (and other citrus-flavored bubbly pops) won’t keep your insides fireproof, but it does contain brominated vegetable oil, a patented flame retardant for plastics that has been banned in foods throughout Europe and in Japan.
Brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, which acts as an emulsifier in citrus-flavored soda drinks, is found in about 10 percent of sodas sold in the U.S.
T he concern about BVO is that Bromines generally are endocrine disruptors that can accumulate in your tissues, central nervous system and breast milk, leading to a number of health problems. It can also act as a depressant and trigger psychological problems.
Bromine is found in a number of other products like Pesticides and Plastics. Bromines are dangerous because they compete for the same receptors that are useful in capturing iodine. Iodine is an important element not just for your thyroid, but affects every tissue in your body, so when you are exposed to a lot of bromine, your body cannot hold on to the iodine it needs. This iodine deficiency is associated with increased risk for cancer of the breast, thyroid, ovary and prostate. For these reasons, usage of BVO in food is banned throughout Europe, Japan and India.

Have flat tummy; remove those flabs without surgery
Real Cyclists
I posted this at Facebook:
I have been working hard to remove my flabs. I get most of my tips from what I have posted here (from Truth About abs.com) which was posted on my other site: www.cheapcures.blogspot.com
For six months now I have been doing the following:
1. Diet - less rice, less or no softdrinks (because it is the primary cause of obesity) no sugar and cream on coffee;
2. At least 3x a week bike; one on the road and twice on the stationary; more of using the drops; it does wonders for the abs.
3. 3 reps of crunch while watching TV; I do leg raises too (or some pilates routine)
4. Push ups:
3x how many push ups can I do in 30 seconds;
3x reps on slow push up (10) widespread
Right now I have flat tummy. I will show this on my next post . I have the beginning of six packs. It does a lot for my posture, appearance and well being. You can see from the Sept 22 post how my tummy look like. No flabs
Why dont you try.

Video: 10-Cent 'Tummy Tuck' Trims Masses of Belly Fat Without Surgery
Have you seen the incredible video that explains one doctor's solution for melting away big slabs of belly fat? Apparently even overweight couch potatoes lost 26 square centimeters of belly fat -- without surgery or frightening drugs or even changing their eating habits one bit! This shocking new video has been sent to more than 1.3 million people already. If you haven't seen it yet, here's your chance. While it's still available, you can watch it for free here. And just wait until you hear what it does for diabetes... watch free now... Heartburn drugs leave stomachs in knots I'd like to think that I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. For years I've been claiming that mainstream medicine hands out proton pump inhibitors like candy. But if we doled out candy as recklessly as doctors are prescribing these drugs, we wouldn't have a tooth left in our heads! That's the sad conclusion I've drawn from a recent Northwestern University study that found that patients with chronic heartburn are receiving PPIs like Nexium, Prevacid, and Prilosec in ridiculously high doses and for unforgivably long periods of time. You see, PPIs are only supposed to be prescribed at the lowest possible dose for the first four to eight weeks, with very careful monitoring thereafter. And there's good reason for that. The list of side effects is long and unpleasant, including diarrhea, skin reactions, and headaches. Over time, as these drugs suppress stomach acid, they may trigger a rise in skin aging, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal upset, infection, and more. In addition, Dr. Wright believes that there may be a link between low stomach acid and asthma, depression, and allergies. (And, shockingly, that might not even be the worst of it! Click here to find out the horrifying truth.) So Northwestern researchers set out to discover whether guidelines were being followed for a group of 1,600 veterans receiving heartburn treatment -- and what they found is guaranteed to turn your stomach. Patients weren't being given small doses of PPIs over a short period of time -- in fact, they were being given enormous, horse-choking doses over extended periods of time. The average veteran in the study left his doctor's office with at least a three-month prescription, and nearly a quarter of the vets were prescribed very high doses. Even more frightening? Researchers found that once they were on these meds, veterans were rarely taken back off of them. Two years after their initial prescriptions, most study participants were still taking PPIs. And that's just terrifying. As Dr. Wright has told you before, long-term exposure to PPIs can literally cripple your digestive system. These drugs disrupt the body's natural digestive process by causing profound changes in your stomach acid levels. In fact, PPIs can decrease your stomach acid to less than ten percent of the normal levels. And chronically low levels of stomach acid can leave you unable to absorb nutrients from the food you eat. These drugs can literally starve you! PPIs are among the best-selling drugs in America. But now that you have the facts you don't need to fall for the scam. And for tips on using Dr. Wright's favorite method for restoring proper stomach-acid balance subscribers to Nutrition & Healing can take a look at the April 2002 issue in the online archives for free. And if you're not already a subscriber, that's easy to fix. Just click here to learn how. Yours in good health, Bob Reagan

Get rid of the flabs! Live healthier!
Real Cyclists
Rizal PHL | March 30 2013
The Picasa album has enabled me to see that a good 50% of our riders have lifesavers, love handles on their waists. Perhaps this condition gives them difficulty in their rides. While we bike, we have been unable to reduce our body/waist flabs. Please take note that very few people with waists over 40 inches survive. Flabs around the waist means:
l. there is fat at the liver
2. there is fat at the heart
3. there is fat at thelungs
These vital organs cant function properly.
Some simple suggestions to combat the flab (please read posts too on flabs, and slimming techniques)
l. Diet: 1. eat organic unprocessed food like raw fruits and vegetables;
2. avoid junk food
3. avoid wine, alcohol, and drinks with high fructose corn syrup
2. Exercise
1. push ups to strengthen core muscles
2. planking
3. Peak Fitness Program
l. HIIT - High intensity interval training.
2. Strength training - weights or resistance training but slower - double the time. I have posted linked this many times.
For the last two under PFP, I have seen great results. I exercise less often daily but I feel stronger. Why dont you try them? Say starting tomorrow - Easter Sunday, and live healthier

Get Rid of Flabs
Real Cyclists
We had fun posing for this pics but it suggests how much work we need to do to remove our flabs. Flabs are not good healthy wise because it means there is a lot of fat covering the abdomen: which means fat covers the liver, and the lungs and the heart. Big waist does not lead to long life.
Flabs can not be removed by biking alone. Diet and planking can do wonders to remove flabs. I have made several (many posts) on foods that remove fats, planking and other exercises to remove flabs

More suggestions on weight reduction and flab loss
Biking and health
One of our aims in cycling is having fit and slim physique. I have noticed though that 1/2 of the cyclists in our group have large belly. Large belly means there is fat in: lungs, heart and liver. And it does not help at all in physical fitness and health. These fats can lead to: heart disease, and fatty liver. We can have healthy looking bellies and even 6 pack abs by:
l. Planking exercises - you assume push up position for 16 counts say 6 reps. You try having that position with one arm. Then raise one leg (can you try both legs) Then raise one leg and diagonally the other arm. Alternately. Planking exercises
2. Ghrerlin leptin - You can control the leptin by: eating 3 hours before meal; limiting each meal to 500 calories (normal meal maybe l,000 to l,500 calories); graze dont feast. Eat more foods in natural form. Avoid diet rich in sugar and artificial sweeteners. Take leptin preparations Leptin and ghrelin role in weight loss
3. Use of metformin and corosolic acid (from banaba) for weight loss. Taking metformin or corosolic acid reduces insulin which causes ghrelin level to go up. Ghrelin we know cause fat metabolism and loss of appetite. Dr Mirkin on use of gluchophage for weight loss (and PCOS).
You do not have to buy expensive xenecal. Our family physician prescribed this to my overweight daughter; I even heard this from a CEO of a big hospital.

Flip on your body's own
Not long ago, one of the nation's most respected doctors discovered his own, personal weight-loss miracle...For 60 years it had been sitting -- ignored -- in the research files of another brilliant physician...FAT-BLASTING switch! But now he's sharing the secret strategy that can help you melt away the fat that's STUCK, like...
This scientifically proven, doctor-approved fat blaster works without a single risky pill, unbearable hunger pang, or drop of sweat! Dear Reader, Around the holidays, you'll find me just about anywhere but in bed. Who has time for sleep when there are cookies to bake, stockings to hang, and gifts to buy and wrap? Not to mention all the cleaning that has to happen before I'll even let guests in the door. So I was pretty unhappy to read that my 'round-the-clock approach to holiday preparations could be undermining my efforts to keep my waistline in check amidst the barrage of holiday treats. A new study in the journal Sleep finds that forgoing a full night's sleep could sabotage your efforts to stay slim. Normal-weight men and women were studied under two conditions: getting a short amount of sleep (4 hours--which I'm lucky to get on some nights as Christmas gets closer) and normal sleep (9 hours--oh, if only!). The researchers found that, in men, short sleep led to a spike in levels of the hormone ghrelin, which stimulates hunger. In women, short sleep reduced the hormone (GLP-1) that makes you feel full. So, getting too-few hours of sleep had different effects on men (increased appetite) and women (reduced feelings of fullness), but with the same result: a tendency toward overeating. Of course, that's particularly dangerous right now. Case in point: I'm staring at a gift tin of holiday popcorn right now. Over on the counter, there's a box of chocolates. I bet you're facing a similar minefield of food temptations right now. And it turns out that our reduced head-on-pillow time is increasing our chances of being hit. The obvious solution is to get more sleep. But that's just not always realistic.
