Vid on seniors - how to live up to 100, signs that you are?

Wheels of Happiness

I am now 73 and I want to know whether I can live up to 80 or beyond  These are signs:

1.    Mind your diet.  Eat healthy food
2.    Optimism
3.    Have plenty of friends
4.    Having hobby
5.    Keep your mind sharp and busy
6.    Exercise/physical activity

As for me:
1.  I do daily 50;  So  I have some arm, chest and thigh muuscles
2.  I post in blog to keep my mind busy;   I read up to 10 net articles daily and post this in a journal
3.  Am still active in setting up business, solving business problmes.
4.  I bike 2x-3x a week, I do hard rides up hill or interval using big ring
5.  One of my hobbies is repairing bike.   I makes my mind sharp and fingers flexible.

How about you?

How to ride faster and stronger?!

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal Philippines   |  February 13, 2015

It is Friday the 13th but I biked to Tanay and on the way back I biked through the Cardona bypass.  I had to struggle but that is the way to be prepared for Baguio ride.

So the question is how I a senior can get fit and strong to join the very young kapadyaks (Halimaws if you may) at the their blinding rides.

So I always remember the admonition of Joel  -   keep close to the leaders and ride harder. Do Hard Interval Training.

Dr. Arnie Baker

I read Arnie Baker MD in his book Smart Cycling and here are his advice, which I try to stick to:

1. Equipment:

    1.  Lighten your bike especially the power train:  wheels, tubes, chain, chain ring, cogs, pedals, shoes.   If you can lower the weight of your bike from 23 lbs to below 20 then you can see changes in the way you bike

   2. Clean your bike  - remove grime in the pedal, cogs, derailleur, brakes, changer.  It could get very dirty;

   3. Oil lubricate your moving parts; STI, cables, cogs, pulleys, axle, bearings, BB. A noisy unlubricated bike can cost you minutes or a being dropped

Beyond these, everything else depends on the engine -  YOU.

Get rid of the flabs! Live healthier!

Real Cyclists

Rizal   PHL    |  March 30 2013

The Picasa album has enabled me to see that a good 50% of our riders have lifesavers, love handles on their waists.  Perhaps this condition gives them difficulty in their rides.  While we bike, we have been unable to reduce our body/waist flabs.  Please take note that very few people with waists over 40 inches survive.   Flabs around the waist means:

l.  there is fat at the liver
2.  there is fat at the heart
3.  there is fat at thelungs

These vital organs cant function properly.

Some simple suggestions to combat the flab (please read posts too on flabs, and slimming techniques)

l.  Diet:   1.  eat organic unprocessed food like raw fruits and vegetables;
               2.     avoid junk food
               3.   avoid wine, alcohol, and drinks with high fructose corn syrup

2.  Exercise
               1.  push ups to strengthen core muscles
               2.  planking
               3.  Peak Fitness Program
                       l.  HIIT -  High intensity interval training.
                       2. Strength training -  weights or resistance training but slower - double the time. I have posted linked this many times.

For the last two under PFP, I have seen great results.  I exercise less often daily but I feel stronger.  Why dont you try them?  Say starting tomorrow - Easter Sunday, and live healthier
