Tale of Three Old Men Who Bike

Bike for Health

I biked late this morning.  I was fatigued the whole week, including yesterday because I taught in Lipa City.  The teaching stint was finished at 5 pm and still had to drive home to Angono.  I picked up daughter at SM Megamall, ate and arrived past l0 pm

In Morong, at Simples lugawan, I met Papa Rudy;  on the way in Cardona we met Papa Ric.  Rudy is 74, Ric is 78.  Well they are strong  riders.  Rudy can draft behind tricycle at 40+ kph.  You could not catch up with him in traffic situation -  he knows very well his way in traffic.  (magaling sa singitan) I am the youngest of the three

Papa Rudy's story and mine are similar

When we shared stories, it turned out that Papa Rudy and I started biking for the same reason -  for health.  He started to bike in Qatar about a decade ago because he had high blood pressure.  He was off for work for awhile, and his coworkers challenged him to bike.  If he does not get well in six months, they will pay for his bike double his acquisition price.

So they offered him a bike for about $l00.00, and Italian aluminium bike that he still use today.
It is a nice bike.  And fortunately for the group, he got well and he got stronger by the time the six months time was up.  He said he could ride for 47 kph and even won a time trial  l2 laps at the oval.

In Bilibiran we met a group of bikers from Muntinglupa doing a round Laguna Lake ride.  They  have grey hair too.
