Painful accident for Xian de la Cruz of Nueva Ecija at stage 2 of Ronda in Bicol

Wheels of Happiness

It is not happiness but pain, thus experienced Xian de la Cruz of the Nueva Ecija team in the 2nd stage, team trial of Ronda 2022.   It may mark the  end of the cycling career of said rider who quit school just to train for the Ronda.  So far, the hospital bill is at P300K so far and the  Ronda organizer will  put up 50% or P150K, with the other half being charged to the jeepney driver whose jeep collided with the rider (the rider flew high up  in the air as seen in the video.

The question now is who is at fault:?  The local news said the cyclists were travelling fast (it is a time trial and maybe the locals do not understand the event, and that it si the riders who counterflowed (correct)

While the project manager of the  event, a lady has all ready made statements that this is an accident that is common on all sports, the organizer has spared no effort to make this safe.

Clearly there was no marshall;  the ronda probably lacked marshall  and should have made the public road safe for the time trial  It was not safe.

This echoes the observation of the father of Xian.   It can be avoided and painful accidents like this can be avoided if not prevented.

Tony Martin wins TT world Championship for third time; Wiggins distant second

Real Cyclists

From Herald Sun Sports | September 26, 2013

 Tony Martin

Tony Martin  of Germany won the time trial competition of world cycling championship in Italy.  Martin covered the 57.2 km route from Montecatini Terme to Florence in l hour 5 minutes, 36.65 seconds.  Wiggins of UK was behind 46.09 while Fabian Cancellara 48.34.

Cancellara won the event in a record of 4 wins:   06, 07, 09 and 10.    Michael Roger of Australia won the event 3x 2003-2005.

Martin has now won the 9 out of 12 Time Trial competition this year, including Tour de France.

They say winning the Time Trial is a sign of true bike champion.  There are no tactics and strategies, no drafting, no slingshot sprint, no team mates working hard for you covering you with his draft, or tiring the opponent -  it is only you and time, the road and the wind.

Is Tony Martin the true cycling champ this year?

Time trial practice today July 14, 2013

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL   July 14, 2013

I did a time trial practice today from Angono to  Pillilla (Km 28 to 59) today.  I started  at 6 30 am, was in Morong by 7:10 and arrived at Pililla by 7:40.

Maybe I did the course in a little under 30 kmh.  Not bad eh.  I usually did that in 1:30.

The practice routine consisted of initially 500 meters at say 100 rpm say 30 km/h.  rest for l km, then 5 reps and eventually increase this to 1 km.  rest for 1 km.  My legs again feel stoned after this routine.  I hope I will do good in the actual TT

My notable experience in the ride was Carlos of Taytay passed me at Km 51 but I chased him and he passed me again at km 52.  I chased him again and caught up with him at km 55.  He passed me at 56.5 but I was with him at km 58 and passed him.  Not bad for a 62 yo senior.

I had breadfast at Simples by 8:00.  The REcyclists were no longer there.  I saw:  Papa Ric, Chito and Secx.

I inspected Holy Angels by 8:15 and started biking back by 8:30

I was home by 9:20

Practicing for time trial today July 10 2013

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL    |  July 10, 2013

I biked last Monday July 8, and today to have some foundation miles and training for the time trial.  Last Monday, I biked until the Morong Municipal building.  Today I biked till km 58 in Pililla for a total of 30 km one way or 60 km two way.

I could do the morning biking because of the change of schedule at work and I was allowed by our Officer in Charge when I asked permission yesterday.  I was even asked if I would bike to Pampanga;  that is too far.

I left at 6:30 and went to mass at Sacred heart church in Tayuman.  I left at 6:50 and was km 58 by 7:50.  I biked back immediately and was in Binangonan URS by 8:50 and in Angono, Rizal by 9:10

Incidentally I saw Tito at LLDA on the way back and he did not recognize me.  He said he thought I was a young rider because I was on heavy gear (50 x 2l) and I had different uniform.  He did not see me wear the FSA uniform.  We parted ways at URS Binangonan.

I think it was a good TT practice.  I bike hard for 1 km (maybe 30+ km) then rest as many times as allowed.  I practice standing up say I km up the hills.  Tito and I did some fast interval at Calumpang highway.

My things and legs feel like stones now.  It was a good practice I think;  I covered km 58 in 1 hour. That is 30 kmh pace

Time trial postponed; many object to the groupings.

Relaxing after breakfast at  Simples Lugawan

There is supposed to be a time trial today from Pisong Kape to Jala-Jala.  But it did not push through.  Many did not come and many are objecting to the 4 groups.  Why not just 3 groups.  Are we not discouraging the slow members from becoming better because they are grouped with slow pokes (gapangers)  On the other hand if we mix the gapangers with the fast ones,  the slow ones would pull down the time of the fast ones.  What is the target speed?  55 kph?  Haha.

That is Papa Ric and Bubuy at the right

Gerry with his new hairdo, Allan and Jeff

                                      The Taytay CME team
