An unknown blogger, BA - TJ sent questions regarding seniors biking

Wheels of Happiness

An unknown blogger, netizen DM me 9 point questions regarding biking for seniors.  Though I do not know much about him, and the qurestions were straight forward, I answered him promptly.  I told him too that I was with Kara David in 400 km bike ride to Bicol

The questions center on benefits of biking, and how biking should be:

1.  Biking develops posture, you dont stoop or do duck walk;
2.  Better breathing
3.  Long life
4.  Lesser maintenance medicine
5.  Being more positive, happier
6.  Having stronger bones.
The theory is that brittle bones is not caused solely by lack of Vit D and Calcium but by weaker muscles.   So you have to exercise if possible using weights.    Lifting weights develope muscles which makes bones stronger.
7.  Freedome from Sarcopenia.  As we age, our muscle mass depletes.  Only exercise can partially stop that or stop that.

So bike more exercise more

Strange feeling after biking here on televised documentary with TV personality

Wheels of Happiness

It is kind of bizarre seeing footages of the Kristine wrath at Bicol, after having biked to Bicol three years ago (by Sunday Nov 3).  It was nice and scenic.

Now its flooded and scene of destruction.   How easily good things can turn bad.  My heart goes for them.  But like PBBM, cant go there.  They are well taken of by DSWD and their representation

7 from Angono joined the Mayon 360 last Sunday

Wheels of Happiness

The Mayon 360 was held last Sunday, and some 7 riders from Angono joined this ride.  This included Ian Espiritu, Pacholito, and Jose Bien.  Binabati kayo sa inyong participation.   They took cars rode airplanes to get there.  The route was 80 km +

I was there when I joined Kara David in the Bike to Bicol I witness adventure.

Perhaps I am sour graping but that is just a bike ride to Niogan Pililla.

Exploding number of loopers, group rides to Bicol noted

Wheels of Happiness

It has been noted that there are increasing number of loopers:   among them Jhong Saba, Rocky Raquedan,  Bike Mike.   and bike rides to Bicol

It may be too presuming that part of this is inspiration from this GMA I witness documentation.

Kaya ba ng ordinary mortal/biker?  Kaya ba ng mga seniors.  That is a great feat for a senior.  Many seniors I met said that any senior can ride but not 150 km in a day, or multi stage ride like the one we did.   It was a first time I rode with non age group bikers.   Having three generation of riders together was a first time experience

Right now nearly two years after, the number of views is 1.2 million.

It was a great honor and privilege to have been part of this ride

Mam Kara is professor at UP Mass Com, is lector at a Kamuning church, is a triathlete.  And is now at Santiago long trek in Spain Europe with her family

Rainier now rides bus occasionally to his family which is safer and convenient.  Is a full time vlogger under Code Name Unligala

Painful accident for Xian de la Cruz of Nueva Ecija at stage 2 of Ronda in Bicol

Wheels of Happiness

It is not happiness but pain, thus experienced Xian de la Cruz of the Nueva Ecija team in the 2nd stage, team trial of Ronda 2022.   It may mark the  end of the cycling career of said rider who quit school just to train for the Ronda.  So far, the hospital bill is at P300K so far and the  Ronda organizer will  put up 50% or P150K, with the other half being charged to the jeepney driver whose jeep collided with the rider (the rider flew high up  in the air as seen in the video.

The question now is who is at fault:?  The local news said the cyclists were travelling fast (it is a time trial and maybe the locals do not understand the event, and that it si the riders who counterflowed (correct)

While the project manager of the  event, a lady has all ready made statements that this is an accident that is common on all sports, the organizer has spared no effort to make this safe.

Clearly there was no marshall;  the ronda probably lacked marshall  and should have made the public road safe for the time trial  It was not safe.

This echoes the observation of the father of Xian.   It can be avoided and painful accidents like this can be avoided if not prevented.

Biking to Bicol

Real Cyclists

Rizal, PHL      | August 2, 2013

30th year of the archidiocese, the bishop said the mass

Today I biked to Antipolo City and went to Antipolo Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage.  The good Archibishop said the mass.

While seated at the patio of the church, I got to know Danny from floodway who was telling how they had a trip to Bicol.  I attempted that trip too with Angel and Gerry. He is the friend of Mon Apuya.(from whom I got inspiration to do a Sorsogon ride)

He said that they got as far as Sorsogon in 3 days.  You must average 200 km a day to be able to do this.  He said they covered up to Gumaca <Danny's relative> in day l, Legaspi in day 2 and Sorsogon <Mons place> in Day 3.  You just do 25 kmh in 8 hours and you can cover the distance.  You eat breakfast  and lunch only.  You eat snacks as you ride.

Leave early at say 4 am;  ride slowly after eating and do not sit out long.  You can just bring one short and two jersey for the ride, but complete set of tools.  You install new tires and interior for the ride and have everything adjusted.

For the first day, do not go by way of Luisiana.  Travel via turbina but via Bitukang Manok;  it is steeper but is shorter to travel.
