I visited Edgar (7 days) today as I rode with Vhen today, to say hello. (When we say how do you do, people are really saying "I love you" from a Louie Armstrong song).
So he is much better now, he gained weight and is color is back to normal. He said he used to feel faint and breathless even when biking for a short distance. The symptoms: bum stomach, pain from gout, faint, difficulty in breathing appeared after the Baguio ride.
I also found out that he has been taking energy drink for about a year (which MDs are saying to be bad for the health). It must have caused his high uric acid, the gouty arthritis, and his problem with the kidneys.
Warnings issued on Energy Drinks
He is suffering from low iron/RBC, pain from gout, and high creatinine (candidate for dialysis) He is on Chinese and Western medication. The Chinese medication said it took care of his RBC and kidney. The Western med took care of his low RBC, his kidney. But his high uric acid level is not being addressed.
He is 60 years old and I said to him we have to thank the Lord for that long joyful years of life He gave us. We even thank Him for bonus number of years. If we get sick, He alone knows the best of us and we offer the same to Him, including the pain and discomfort.
But Ed will get better if he wants to because he alone is the best doctor for himself.
Think of good things not bad. Think of HAPPINESS, not sad.
Get better Ed.

Is it time to quit or time to improve further as a long distance rider; dapat susunod Trans Phil ride
Wheels of Happiness

February 13, 2017
As I scaled the City of Pines last Saturday February 11 (our Lady Lourdes celebration), I reflected on the fact that I was last of the tropa always, but I never struggled. For the Urdaneta stretch, I lingered on to the back to support a beleaguered colleague who had cramps. That was from Tarlac down to Paniqui, but he eventually left me. The too much spinning made my muscle sore.
From Urdaneta up to Binalonan, I was up front with the group but was left behind too could not mach their 35 to 40 kph speed. I promised myself 20 to 25 kph only. I will finish the route in due time fresh and not feeling too exhausted.
I was wondering too whether this affected me:
1. Using two bikes. Road bike up to Rosario La Union, and MTB up to Baguio City
2. I practiced most of the time using MTB albeit hard tempo and using hard gears. At the ride, I preferred to ride conservatively, easy gears and easy riding. Just ot finish
3. Being away out of town, pigging out on food at Dumaguete and the tours there.
4. Or whether age has caught up with me.
Vhen Apran and I tried this ride at the young age of 65, and said it could be our last joining Recyclists for the epic activity. The route seems longer, the climb harder and the colleague seem to be faster.
There are two choices: to quit take it easy, or continue cycling. And try to find out where I went wrong, What else can I improve?
With Vhen A, kaidaran ko pero iniiwan ako palagi
With VM at SM Marilao
Resting at SFDO rest stop with Engr June at the background
Selfie and the rest of the guys at Hacienda Luisita after being
ejected from Max/s lawn
JB at SM City Rosales; (are we promoting SM? panay SM
ang stop
At Camp 4 hinintay ako ng tropa consisting of VM, Vhen, and Edgar
From the Land of Higantes to the Land of Giant Lion's head
Maski paano nakakauna on a low geared MTB
Hindi pa laos, kumikig pa sa pag pedal!

Which type of bike to bring to Baguio City ride: roadie or MTB?
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
January 25, 2017
There is an ongoing internal debate going in my head: what type of bike to bring for Baguio City ride for February 10, 2017. For the last 7 rides, it has been roadie. 5x on the Sars bike and 2x on Fuji. (We rode to Banawe Rice Terrraces last June 2016,, did we not?)
I used compact x 25 and compact x 28 (Zip tires of VM on last two rides)
However since January of last year, I bought MTBs and have been riding most of the time on MTBs. I did a long ride to Majayjay covering 200 km out and back on a SAVA carbon fiber MTB, I did a Jarrel ride on an MTB about 140 km Most of Recyclists suggest Road Bike; some suggest and even Long Henson road bike on flats, and MTB at Baguio City. Meong suggested. bring two bikes : one Roadie up to Urdaneta and MTB from Urdaneta till Baguio.
MinZap who will join with Jun on MTB suggest MTB kaming tatlo. He says any way I have been doing MTBs lately. He says kaya ko
Bianchi roadie or
SAVA titanium?
Which of the options will be best.?
Today I did several loops at Medalva (Botong Francisco Avenue) in Angono using the SAVA and only 42 x 36 as the lowest gear. up to the peak.

My story about the Angono to Baguio City ride from February 20 to 21, 2015

Gerry and others assemble at Holy Gardens Angono
I have sore butt (the blister caused by chafing with the seat peeled off) sore thighs, badly sunburned face and arms, glycogen depleted body. I was not able to post yesterday
Some trivia about the climb;
1. There were 23 joiners:
Victory, victory victory, achievement again
x They posed at Lions head for 6th time

2012 Planned Baguio Bike Ride
Bike and Go to Baguio
There is a planned Baguio bike ride this January. Last year, it was an abbreviated Baguio ride because it started from Rosario La Union.
This time, the planned Baguio bike ride will be an epic ride and will take three days. It will be one day ride from Angono to say Pangasinan, and one day ride from Pangasinan to Baguio and one day return trip to Manila possibly by bus. The plan is January 27, 28, and 29. I hope I can join.
Here is the planned route (this is the car route. Please take note of the distance: it is 261 km)

Plan to Bike to Sierra Madre or Round Laguna
Bike for Health
Luis, our president, texted me early today that Armin is rearin to bike to Sierra Madre via the Sampaloc route or Round Laguna. Which do you prefer. I am ok especially for the Round Laguna, especially if the Lunch will be Mang Inasal at Los Banos.
They are also planning a Baguio ride from Manila, sleep over at Urdaneta city (Cap Eleng said that his son in law lives in Urdaneta city) The Real Men plans a Calauag or Naga Ride this December.
