I came across Ven early morning at Wawa and he told me he ached all over. It was the same experience.  I slept the whole afternoon and evening last Sunday nursing fatigued body, painful thighs and legs.  Gerry told me his thighs swelled yesterday.  For riding too hard.

I guess everybody went too fast and did not want to be left behind.  If you are left behind, and because of the strong headwind, you suffered as I did on the way home.  I struggled alone at Daang Hari (from Gen Emilio Aguinaldo side up to Bacoor and at C6.

Ven told me that I was one of those who initiated the hard ride:  at C6, at the service road, and going home at Amadeo.  As we are of the same age, he and Vic had to catch up and did not want to be left behind by another senior

About 2 very young cyclists joined us today courtesy of Ernie.  And they look very strong.  I did not get their names.  They were always on top of the peloton.  None had any injury or was a quitter.

I was totally exhausted yesterday from the ride.   My knees were weak, as if there was cotton inserted  in the joints and I had difficulty in walking when I arrived in Angono.  I had to sleep and take a rest as soon as I changed from the Recyclists jersey to the dry clothes. The strong head wind as I biked alone (without the group) got me.

I believe that I did well in this ride.

1. At C6, I managed to be near the head of the peloton;

2.  At the service road, I was in the top 10 of the peloton.   Cataps was at the lead.

3.  At Daang Hari from Alabang to Bacoor, and from Bacoor to Emilio Aguinaldo, I managed to stay ahead.

4.  Going up Crisanto de los Santos Highway to Amadeo, I was left behind when I took some pictures.  However, 5 km after, I caught up with some of the stragglers:  Gerry, Jericho, Ado, Ben.  I even overtook them

5.  Going down the same highway, I took over the peloton leadership from Alan from Amadeo town proper up to Gen Trias.  Maybe that sapped my energy too.   I was behind at Daang Hari;  they left me at Gen Trias early on when we were going down the irrigation road.   I caught up with Ado, Gerry, Ven, and Edgar when Ado got flat in Daang Hari.   I just went with Ado from thereon to Petron.

I would judge this ride for me as good, because I really strained to keep up.  However the group is really fast.  If you blink, and do not keep up fast, you will be left behind far far away

Accident at Paliparan rd - a brand new pick up turned belly up!

We saw an accident along the bike route last Sunday at Paliparan road about a kilometer away from the corner opposite an indie gasoline station(I could not remember the name). A brand new pick up turned turtle.  It must have been totalled.

 Several other pick ups (Ranger etc) were near the accident site.  They would be probably have been travelling at a convoy and traveling at high speed and maybe avoided a vehicle going to or exiting the gasoline station.  The avoidance maneuver, I suppose must have caused the pick up to flip upside down.

I did not take picture because the accident picture may instill negative images in the minds of the reader, Recyclists.

The vehicle was gone by 12 noon when we went down from Tagaytay

I got a text from Angel last night inviting me to join a ride to Tagaytay today.  I declined because it is still hot today.  And considering my age.... And a cousin is about to be  buried because he died from a heat stroke.  He does not have a complaint but died because of jogging last Monday.  And it was hot...

Those who went were Alan, Gerry and Angel....

And the rest were wondering why they were not invited.

Tomorrow, nearly one month after the Baguio ride, we ride to Tagaytay.  It is not clear where to assemble and what time.  But I guess, the Angono and Binangonan riders will assemble at Iglesia by 5:30 am and then ride to Taytay Municipal Hall up to 6:00 and then start the ride.

The ride will take us to C6, Bicutan, Sucat, Alabang, Daang Hari, Bacoor, Paliparan, GMA, turn left to Greenwoods, Silang and then to Tagaytay.  It is a distance of about 120 km, two way.  Just like going to Famy and back.

I stand corrected:  it is 150 km roound trip; 75 km one way.  It is a tough ride.

Biking and health

The dynamic trio:   Gerry, Angel and I rode to Tagaytay yesterday.  Our assembly time was 6:00 but we left at 6:20.  We chose the floodway, Baytown route to c6.  We entered c6 by 6:35 and were in Bicutan by 7 am;  there we bought our breakfast of Monay, pancit canton, and rice cakes.

This could be their 8th ride;  mine was 6th

We left at 7:20 and were in Alabang  7:40.  We were at Bacoor/Daang Hari intersection by 8:10 and at Greenwoods by 9:00 am.  We were at Silang by 10:00.  (I had to fix my bike because of clicking chain sounds) We were Tagaytay by 10:50.

Angel said we paced at 32-35 kph at C6 and were going up Tagaytay at about 25 kph and slowing occasionally at 20 kph.

We stayed for a while at Tagaytay Rotunda and went down by 11:30.  We ate some buko and took some pictures at Monteluce and Premier Plaza.  The stall where we used to eat was gone;  instead a new commercial complex built by Robinson was there.

We were in Silang by 12 and were hoping to have lunch at Bikerspoint.  They had no food (this was in Greenwoods)  We ended up in Kusina ni Grasya when we arrived there a little before 1 pm.  We lunched there until 1:20.   We were in Daang Hari by 2:00 pm and were  Alabang by 230 (we were fast) and were in Bicutan by 2:45.   We entered C6 by 300 pm (we rested at Camp bagong diwa waiting shed because Gerry had stiff neck he said) We refreshed and drank some softdrinks in Napindan until about 330. 

We slowed down quite a bit and were in Angono 4:20.  We were tired and sun burned.

Biking and health

Nolite told me this 430 pm, after our trio ride to  Tagaytay, that our Atimonan ride will be on November 25, 2012.  It is is so sad that after preparing so hard for this, I will miss, as with other rides of Recyclists 2010.

I had an earlier booking with the family to an out of town destination and the plane tickets and the accommodations have been paid for.  Too late to cancel  and rebook  (A rebook is the same as buying a new package)

Three of us initiially started out at 6:30 am for Tagaytay this morning:  Cataps, Angel, and me Jorgeusbiker.

Eventually, Weng, the brother of Angel, and Alan caught up with us at the entrance to C6.  We time trialled C6 covering the 10 km distance in about 20 minutes.  Then we bought breakfast at Bicutan and ate in a waiting shed in front of Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

After which we rode to Alabang. We covered the dsitance from Bicutan in about l5 minutes.  That is where the bizarre event took place;   Weng and Angel could did not arrive at the assembly point. That was about 8: 15 They had been to Tagaytay several times and they could not have been lost.  We were trying to contact them by cp and no one answered.  Did they get a flat, or were they lost.

We contacted them at about 9:00 and they said they were at Jollibee.  What Jollibee and where?  Allan and Gerry went to Jollibee and I followed and the Balubar brothers were nowhere in sight.

Still waiting.  We made another 3 phone calls. They said they were at Las Pinas;  and we waited.

Then at about l0, they were contacted and said they were allready in Molino.  That was when we decided that the 3 of us would just go home.

And we did ride home fast and furious.  With the short break included to drink buko juice, we covered the Alabang Angono distance in l:05. Another time trial.  The C6 was covered in l5 minutes.


Angel later texted me that they arrived in Tagaytay at 11:22.

The Recyclists_2010 Will Bike to Tagaytay Today

Bike and Save the Earth

At 6 am today, the Recylists will bike to Tagaytay.  Assembly point will be the municipal building of Taytay at MEG.  I think many will join the ride except me;  I am down with colds.  It is hard to bike with stuffy and runny nose. You can not breathe very well;  it hard biking hard and wiping the mucus from your nostrils.

Enjoy your ride guys.  Last week, it was lonely ride for me.

Advanced Happy Birthday to Richard who will celebrate his 9th birthday this 29th.  (He celebrates birthday every 4 years right)  But in reality he is old at 36.

What, John Rey, one of the Gay Men (Son of Netoy) Got Sick After the Tagaytay Ride?

I was told this morning that John Rey, the son of Netoy, one of the of Gay Men who rode to Tagaytay last Sunday got sick. In one of the pictures posted, I labelled his picture as him being stretched to the limit. He had it too many too soon. He should have gone more conditioning prior to that century ride.

I hope John Rey has recovered. I wish him well
