I made up for the ride to Sierra Madre last Sunday. Wearing only slippers and ordinary walking shorts, I biked up to Sampaloc Tanay. I had lugaw at Simples at 7:30 and started my journey by 8:00. I was at peak of Sampaloc by 9:30 (it is a hard ride) and started my descent by 10;00.
At Jen jens bukohan I met a rider (MTB) from Baras, an education graduate, who has a Mosso MTB His name is Von (Tanto?) from Baras near the cemetery. He was behind me on the descent and then lost him on the plains. He said he was afraid of high speed descent and I said he must master counter steering on descent to control his speed.
One of the things I could be proud on this ride is I used only 42 x 36 lowest gear on the ascent which meant this is still high gear. I used to use 32 or 34 on the ascent up to Jen Jen
And then I totalled the distance. I rode 42 km one way (70 - 28 km reading at Angono). Total distance is 84 vs 94 they rode last Sunday.
Is this a good substitute make up ride?
A senior thinks, rides, solves problems, repairs bikes, thinks discusses about other sports. What senior should do to keep fit

My rashes from the Jalajala crash have healed; I biked to Antipolo this morning
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
January 13, 2017
My rashes (deep scratches from the crash) have healed. They are now dry and thanks to the advice of Gerry to apply sili on the wounds (owwwwww how painful) they healed without pus and watery discharge.
The pain was gone and hence I biked to Antipolo using a MTB though I used low gearing. 32 was the the chain ring I used through out spinning from 17 to 28. I was a little bit off by about 5 mins in the ascend. But on time for the descent. I descended until Angono in 30 minutes.
I might be able to fully recover by Sunday and join the Sierra Madre climb this Sunday.. I may use an MTB though to be sure.
Saw Long Henson at San Jose Bakery at M. Diaz, first street with his new passion, a Roadie Look with Durace group set. (Is he leaving the MTB route?)

I had a wild and fast steed - Fuji SL-1 for the Sierra Madre Ride last January 17, 2015

My Fuji rests at km 68 after a hard climb
VM leads the 3rd pack at Sampaloc

His Holiness, Pope Francis leaves today for Rome, and leaves behind lessons and emotions that will not be forgotten for long
Last Saturday, as His Holiness flew to Leyte to sympathize with the Yolanda victims, we rode to Sierra Madre, via Sampaloc.
I was a hesitant starter, because I arrived late after trying to see the Pope at the Family Encounter in MoA. I felt I was not physically up to par, and I had an appointment at 2 pm that day.
Nevertheless, I was at the appointed place, Sacred Heart Parish. Pres Luis and I nearly collided with one another at MLQuezon in Angono, at about 5:40

Bike ride tomorrow, January 17, 2015 to Sierra Madre
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines | January 16, 2015
We ride tomorrow to Sierra Madre January 17, 2015. I hope I can join the group because we have work. Gerry would not be able to ride, as I conversed with him. Edgar daw cant because of a broken right STI (for the cogs)
I rode today, did a stationary ride yesterday, and rode last Wednesday to prepare for this ride. I was not able to join the Jalajala ride.
I think I am much fitter today to ride this destination compared to previous rides. I am now comfortable with long ascents; I did the Sampaloc ascent solo about 3 weeks ago.

Some of the Recyclists had difficulties at the Sierra Madre ride last August 24, 2014
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal, Philippines | August 30, 2014
Gerry, I and Jun Jun Verchez met yesterday near Majusay bakery. We talked about last Sunday's Sierra Madre ride.
Gerry said that the troop reached Angono at 2 pm. This he said was a little bit late because as early as the Sampaloc portion of the ride, many were all ready struggling - some walked the last part of the climb
I did not join the ride ; I had no mileage and was coughing. The Sierra Madre ride starting at Sampaloc is of extreme difficulty requiring stamina, and strength.
There are several difficult hills to be tackled:
1. Sampaloc
2. Sierra Madre
3. Foremost
4. Going back to Garden Cottage
5. Boso boso
6. Olalia hills

I was not able to join the Sierra Madre ride
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines I August 25, 2014
I was not able to join the Sierra Madre ride. No excuses. I was not physically fit - I lacked the endurance rides to tough it up, I had injured toe and I was coughing (the fuel injection aspiration system was blocked and not working properly)
I biked yesterday to Morong at 6:15 am. And I arrived there about 7:15. And the rest of Recyslists were there for the ride:
Pres Luis
Master E
Alan
Angel Balubar

Posing in front of Pisong Kape, just after completing the punishing pace from Sacred Heart (40 minutes from Sacred Heart - a distance of 30+ km)
Is Jess doing striptease or dressing up?
Jorgeusbiker did not conform to the prescribed uniform (and so with Master E)
Assembly at Sacred Heart church; we were supposed to departt at 6:00 am!!?
Breakfast time at Pisong Kape; we were complaining because the food servers minded the younger and more handsome riders.
It is more expensive at Pisong Kape
Joel and VM at Pisong Kape
Ben and VM
The Recyclists did biked to Jalajala yesterday. It was a Sierra Madre ride before. But some guys persisted to have it Jalajala (as FB conversation.) Thus we gathered at Sacred Heart Parish before 6, attended the mass for a while, and left at 6:30. We were in Pisong Kape by 7:10. What kind of pacing is that?
My best time for up to KM 68 was only l: 10 minutes. Then we biked up to Bugarin and we were there by 8:30 Then we: Ben, Nanding and I parted ways. We went home. Nanding's tires got soft; Ben was not ready and I was attending a GSB graduation and I had to be there by 2pm+
We were kidded "magsasama na kami" - are having a gay marriage hahaha?

Our Sierra Madre Ride Via Sampaloc Today, May 13, 2012
Sierra Madre Ride Via Sampaloc Tanay
The Peloton, led by Smith, going up Sierra Madre from Sampaloc. Its is 9:19 am
Taking Sampaloc route to Sierra Madre Hotel
It is an unusual ride; most of the time, the Sierra Madre ride is from Antipolo, Cogeo Marcos Highway, Foremost, Garden Cottage, and then to Sierra Madre Hotel and then down to Tanay town proper, Baras, Morong, Cardona, Binangonan and then home. This time we took the opposite route via the torturous route of Sampaloc, and then to Cogeo, Olalia highway (it was a killer hill) and then home.
Timelines
Assembly at Maybancal
We assembled at Simple's Lugawan. Everybody was supposed to be there at 6:30.
Who were present:
Nolite

We left at 7:00 am. Master Edwin was not there at 7:00 am.
At Shell Station in Tanay
x Gerry and Nolite
x Angel and Chito F
We were waiting for Master Edwin. It was only 7: 14. We were early and fast. That was distance of about 7 km.
Struggling up at Tanay Sampaloc
Weng and Master E at the steepest portion of Sampaloc
For the photo ops, they can flash a smile
This is the last turn before the bukohan (BJ store). Before this bend, you are tempted to stop
At the BJ store
Armin, the bikes, the buko nuts, bananas, avocados
Pulong2, pahinga, matapos nahirapan
Master caught up; he and Jorgeusbiker were not in uniform
Nolite's wife was right after all in suspecting that Nolite is up to something naughty. Large and long....
At the Sampaloc Marcos Highway intersection:
Loading with coffee, snacks, and water
Smith and Armin
Archie, Allan, Richard, Jorgeusbiker, Compadreng Luis and Nolite (his shrunk?)
Tito, Weng, and Archie facing the camera

Mayweather Cotto Fight Abbreviated Our Rides Today May 6, 2012
Bike and Save the Earth

We had to go home early to watch the Cotto Mayweather fight

Cotto fought hard, he was better here compared to Pacquiao fight but....
I just got an FB post from our Pres. Luis Genavia announcing a bike ride to Sierra Madre, via Sampaloc. This would be a challenging ride. Riding up Sampaloc is ride. Then from intersection of Sampaloc up to the Bureau of Soils should be a long climb. Afterwards, its all going downhill from Tanay to Foremost; to Boso Boso is uphill and then the climb up the Olalia drive. VM, who said he is now the Scouting Council head for Rizal and NCR, plans a ride to Subic/SBMA from San Fernando Pampanga come June. Another June birthday celeb: there are 6 in all June birthday celebrants.
Yesterday, we just did a ride to Pisong Kape and then rode back via Teresa Antipolo with Joel. Everybody rode back early because of Cotto Mayweather fight. We all knew that Mayweather would win in order to set a stage for Pacquiao Mayweather fight which draw in a lot of interest. A Cotto Pacquiao fight would be a non event.
However the bloodied nose of Floyd and the boos from the crowd spoke well of the heart and fighting ability of Cotto. It was a close fight I believe. Cotto got the respect of Floyd.
Today I met Ben and Kuya Boy at the Lakeside park.
