There were a lot of kapadyaks I met today as I went on a ride to Binangonan and Antenna using a road bike (the Bianchi Ultegra):
1. Armin Zap - at Jollibee waiting for other MTBs to arrive. while the BFP were putting out fire at Angono SaveMore
2. Jess Verchez - he passed by us; he was not riding today.
3 Alan Astorga - in Tagpos. He was on MTB and would ride with Gerry Cataps; I left him at Tagpos
4. Pablo Tsinelas - at Antenna. While I did the antenna using the road bike. I drew ohs and ahs from the MTB riders because I had high gears. But I was able to reach the top. My lowest gear was 39 x 32. It was a hard combination
It was the first time I rode a road bike all the way to Antenna.Only MTBs before
Indeed I perspired a lot today riding up San Carlos Heights Antenna. My thighs and legs ached and it was a real work out despite the short distance.
Yesterday, I rode up Medalva using the SAVA MTB. I used 32 x 34 gears. Since it was raining hard, it was a refreshing ride
A senior thinks, rides, solves problems, repairs bikes, thinks discusses about other sports. What senior should do to keep fit

Hill climbs with Sava Ti
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
July 30, 2017
I had 3 hill climbs this week SAVA ti: 2x Eastridge; and once for Antenna San Carlos Heights last Tuesday. And they looked easy for me, because I merely used the low gears. I was able to climb the sites using only 32 chain rings and max of 36 for the sprocket
I have two other MTB: a SAVA 580 carbon fiber and Mosso Falcon 4. But this one is the best so far. It was a good buy
I learned from the video at You Tube that you do not have to over exert nor race going up because you can blow out and not finish the climb. At East ridge yesterday, a young MTB rider had to stop often and said it was his first time. Going down was perilous: the roads which were moss filled were difficult to negotiate going down hill: the tires skid and the bike despite the knobby was difficult to control - you could ditch anytime. But thanks God,these were uneventful climb and descent

Riding up Gate 2 of San Carlos on a MTB with relative ease
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
August 27, 2016
Biking up San Carlos even from Gate 1, Tolentino. You have to be in your lowest gear. Most of those who I see riding up use their granny gears : 24 x 32 to 36. (I try to ride 32 x 28 or 32) As a matter of fact single motor bike offer a towing service who are less inclined to suffer.
It is even more so riding up from Gate 2. From Ynares st, it is a hard steep ride. Not many attempt riding up this path. I have seen only 2: MTB from Taytay and Smith. They all use granny gear.
First time I rode this path, I had to stop and walk. I had difficulty in breathing and pedalling. I am able to ride this up with relative ease. This morning in our PE I rode this route again. Less hard breathing compared before. Mabuhay

A hard hill is a hard hill even with a lighter bike
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
February 21, 2016
I rode up San Carlos Heights with a lighter MTB. I expected lesser effort and huffing and puffing. It was not the case. I could easily do that by shifting to granny gears. I just used max 32 x 32 gears. Still lung busting and thigh burning effort. But I did not stop. The other younger bikers I saw on the road shifted to granny and rested on the first knee bend.
It is the practice, strength, the leg strength and speed that count. May be the bike but secondary na lang.

From outside slacker - riding up Antenna Hill
From BiketourPhilippines of Long Henson
Its the 119th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal I biked today to San Carlos Hts. It has become a destination of sorts like Timberland to many MTB. I can understand why. I had to stop 2x again because the gears missed and the 2nd time I fell. The front tire hit a rock, I pulled up and crashed. This third ride is definitely much better than the first and the gears were now higher 22 x 28.
So I was I able to bike straight up to the peak, and lo and behold the place where the bikers gather are in an alley that led to the lot that I used to own (which I sold to Mareco 103.5 fm, to be used as spending money for trip to USA. It was 500 sm and was able to sell for for P1000 per sm. The P500k was good for $10k. SAYANG

Climbing San Carlos Heights on an MTB for the first time
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
December 23, 2015
It is one more day till Christmas. Merry Christmas
I tried to climb San Carlos Hts. yesterday but deferred this for today. I finally made my resolve to climb this today.
I started out about 9 am. I had to shift 32 x 34 for the first bend. At the rocky road portion, I had to stop thrice due to fear of falling from the rocks, and chain and gear clashing due to the road vibration. I finally made it to the tower but on the rocky portion I had to shift to 22 x 32 because the road was rocky and it was all ascent.
I have to salute and all my admiration to all MTB riders who climb SCH regularly

Many mountainbikers at Antenna in San Carlos
Wheels of Happiness
Angono Rizal Philippines | September 2014
Thanks Lord that it did not rain anymore today. So we had our PE - trek to Marian Hills today.
We had it as scheduled - 4 of our staff and myself. There were about 20 MTBs who went up to the antenna. 2 had large tires; I know some of them but the most notable was Ace of BDO. It was noticeable that he had fair skin, and Mike Francisco.
There is about 200 meters of road that is paved. The rest are still rugged and you can still fall if you hit a stone or gravel (if you ride a roadie)
I would have practiced well for our Caliraya ride because I tried going up and down the paved portion 5x. See you tomorrow..

Wheels of Happiness

I have been texted and we talke about this last December 22, 2013 at Maybancal Morong Rizal that today is the get together at San Carlos Heights Subdivision and the venue is sponsored by VM. The place, a resort, has been contracted for the whole day. And the members would start coming in by 9:00 am.
It would be potlach (potluck, potlach?) Kanya kanyang dala ng ulam/food. This may be the first time to attend such a gathering.
I understand that Engr. Francisco would be coming. (His last appearance was the birthday bash at the Golden View in Los Banos last June. He appears only in June hahaha)
Then there would be certificate of recognition to be awarded to bike achievers, for the long rides they have joined: Baguio, Lemery, Ternate, Tagaytay city
There would be exchange gifts too. Each one is advised to bring gifts worth at least P100.00 each

Gerry and I biked today to Jalajala Municipal Building
Biking and health
My legs are still stiff and hard, after yesterday's ride to Jalajala (km 72) yesterday. I rode with Gerry Cataps to train for the November ride to Atimonan. We tried to maintain a speed of 25 kmh and always hovered at 32 kmh, which is pretty fast.
We were at Jala by 9 am, and were in Angono by 11 am. Cool, isnt it. We usually do it by 1 pm.
Yesterday, I did a San Carlos using road bike (it is pretty scary; the roads are for MTB only) and that is up to the antenna.
Great ride

There is a New Religious Destination in San Carlos Hts, Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal?
Bike and Save the Earth
As we visited the 7th and last church in the bisita Iglesia, people were looking up at the hill in San Carlos Hts. and they were asking how to get there. Looks like the far away "Kamay ni Kristo in Lukban would have a competition.
Maybe is should ride up the site one of these days.
Look at the upper left hand corner of the picture; there is the statue

Mountain Biking Site at San Carlos Heights Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal
New Mountain Biking Site at San Carlos Hts. Binangonan, Rizal
As I biked this morning, I happened to converse with Dr. Donato, a mountain biker from Cainta, Rizal. I thought he would bike to Morong. But he said he would go to San Carlos Hts, a great mountain site that is gaining popularity. He said that the place is more challenging than Shotgun at Timberland, San Mateo, Rizal.
He said that from San Carlos, you can go to Thunderbird.
Anyway, Luis told me all ready about it.
Should I buy a mountain bike too.
Where is St. Carlos Hts? In Binangonan Rizal. Please see Google Map.
