Bike Ride to Mahabang Parang Angono via DOMSA - the place to be for bikers these days.

This post biked together with ragtag Recylists:    Master E, Sonny, Vhal,  Joel, Machete and Jess from Iglesia to the summit (near the NGCP towers)   We stopped over at the summit but Sonny had a flat tire which had to be fixed.  Up to that point, I was able to prove that I was not yet "laos" because I did not stop nor pushed my bike.   (One did - he was younger)

I must have seen about a hundred cyclists MTB and RB come this way.  Because there is a checkpoint at Pag asa, most cant go to Antenna or Quarry Road.    (I guess there is no checkpoint blocking the path of cyclists coming from MM)

Ingat kapadyak, fellow riders.

Why so many riders are getting hooked to MTB?

Wheels of Happiness

I am wondering why of the 30 or so riders of Recyclists (all road bikers) the number has dwindled down to less than 20.  One (Willy quit) while others I understand shifted to Mt. Biking  I know one who is selling his road bike to go full time mt biking.

I have gone out less than 10 times on the Mt. Bike.  Now I understand the joy and discovery of nature and adventure on a mt bike.

One time, at the diversion, I tried the road less travelled at Sunshine fiesta.  I found a dirt road to the meadows (former rice field) and ended up on a road going to Mambog.  The roads there are rather steep but it was no problem to the SAVA mt bike.

Today, I biked to La Farge Republic (Mahabang Parang) 2x and on the way home biked the dirt trail to Sapang Dulangan. Time to revisit where my mother washed our clothes and drove her on an old Datsun 200C (limousine ni Nida Blanca before as the drivers story went)  Then at Wawa, I also rode to the trail going right at the edge of the river and the Laguna Lake.

The book on Mt Biking say that there a thousand and one destination, endless adventures to be had when one goes out on a mt. bike.  There are always new place to visit.  At the road bike, it is always the road that you see, and only destinations that differ.  It is the speed the length of the ride that differ.

Now I see and understand why many bikers shift to MTB, or why there are more MTB riders

This is how to train to be stronger?

Wheels of Happiness

August 25, 2015

After last Sunday's Bugarin ride, I rested yesterday.  But today, it was a little bit rough.  I biked to Sto Rosario past Lafarge and did 5x hill climb, first was over geared, then under geared. then under geared standing, over geared and then easy climb (32 x 32)

And then I went up the Mahabang Parang hill and I had to use 32 x32.   I did not have to stand and hurry up the pedalling, I was tired and breathless.

Then, not happy with that, I did a messengerial work.  I biked to BK at Frontera Tiendesitas.  It was a good choice because there was a lot of traffic even at Angono.  The intersection going to Baytown has now become a bottle neck.  And so with the Elem School at floodway before the Highway 2000 (fishport).  Traffic too at Puregold and C5.  But I made it on time 9 am.  I was trying to fast pedal at 90 rpm as taught by Ed Valdez.   High cadence pedalling means you have to learn to breath faster and higher heart rate.  It leaves you breathless and tired after the ride.  I had to sleep after eating and weashing up

It is all go for Baguio ride this Friday; some practice still needed?

View from the top of the almost switch back from Ding Roans place;  even the MC's are struggling, groaning from the strain/difficulty

It is the start of Lenten season and start of Panagbenga in Baguio.  Two days from now, on Friday, February 20,  we start trek to Baguio City. We ride to Urdaneta Pangasinan a distance of 200 km.

Today, I need some brushing up on my hill climb by doing the Mahabang Parang Hills near La Farge.  I climbed this hill at 7:00 am.  I fear naman na baka ma over ako?

I guess I am much stronger  today, as I negotiated up to the bend without stopping and much still to spare.  This is as near as the Lions Head you can get, (at Kennon Road)  If you can ride this up with ease, you can do Baguio City

More uphill climb; but easier to pedal
