Strongest typhoon in history makes landfall in the PHL | November 8, 2013

Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) landed in the PHL Friday morning with sustained winds of 315 kph and gustiness up to 380 kph (wow) Its strength as per CNN weather girl, is way off the charts. It is perhaps the strongest typhoon ever recorded in history. The force and speed of the wind is equivalent to Category 5 hurricane in the US. It is affecting some 25 million Filipinos in Central Visayas. It was reported that many roads are impassable because of fallen trees. '
The typhoon is expected to sustain its strength as it cuts across the PHL It is moving westward towards Palawan at 41 kph. It covers l,700 km across. It is extreme both in strength and size
Some 200 flights have been cancelled.

This is the third calamity to hit the PHL within a year: last month it was the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 200 and injured more than a 1000 people, and displaced some 300,000 residents, and the Pablo typhoon that killed nearly 2,000 people in Mindanao. Typhoon Bopha as it is internationally known, is the second most destructive typhoon. And it is a record for PHL
