Difficulties and challenges in a bike ride
Wheels of Happiness
Mostly they are pedestrians and other vehicles who pose danger to your life and limb:
1. Pedestrians who suddenly dart out from their yard, in play;
2. Vehicles which stops and whose door suddenly open
3. Motor tricycle who makes turn, especially u turn without warning;
4. MC who overtake both from right and left
5. Mga pumipina: trucks, buses, vans
6. PUVs that suddenly stop and unload at the middle of the street and you are running at 30+ kph. Sudden stop or swerve to you left?
7. Wet roads due to the laundry or other waste thrown by the household on the street;
8. Sand and gravel left on the street after heavy rain.
Just be watchful, vigilant and be safe

Riding dangerously; how do we remove the dangers?
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
6.24.2021
We see gruesome pictures of bikers being hit by crazy drivers in US, in the Philippines deaths and accidents involving motor vehicle and bike riders. Indeed it is riding dangerously:
1. Riders beating the red light;
2. Bike riders racing vs motor vehicles in highways;
3. Gitgit pina by the Motor Vehicles which are travelling fast;
4. Pedestrians suddenly darting out from nowhere;
5. Jeepney suddenly stopping in fron of you to load unload
6. MC overtaking from your right even if the space is narrow;
7. Tricycles MV other bikers riding on the wrong side of the road;
When do we see more educated drivers; and when can roads be safe for every one?
The bike lanes are myth and fancy in the Philippines: they are not protected; cars and MC use it, they are used as parking and waiting stations. They are dangerously built too with potholes and drainage gratings that can trap the RB thin tires;

Death and illness of kapadyaks due to energy drinks?

Warnings issued vs energy drinks
A rider who was buried last Sunday in Teresa was rumored to have taken 4 energy drinks named after a venomous snake after a a race. He collapsed going home between boundary of Taytay and Antipolo. Another rider whose health suddenly went south since six months ago takes a lot of energy drinks during every ride (again named after another deadly venomous African snake.)
I remember having written about the dangers of energy drink. They contain 4x the concentration of sugar, and 4x caffeine in a bottle. It may set you back only P20.00 and give you a lot of boost but it can stress your heart because of the caffeine and damage your kidney. (The ill kapadyak needs dialysis; therefore his kidney was damaged. He does not have any known disease and therefore the damaged kidney could only be attributed to the energy drink. My brother who owns a mortuary tells of stories of those having fun time with alcoholic drinks dying after they took energy drinks about taking alcohol, They do so because they say there is no hang over after taking energy drink. That is right. They die.
Therefore, before you take an energy drink in your next ride, be careful. Weigh the pros and cons

Perils of Biking and how to avoid mitigate them
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
June 19, 2017
Happy Rizal (Birth)Day today. It is a holiday in entire Laguna to celebrate the natal day of who is recognized as national hero.
Warning: the pictures are graphic and can be disturbing
From topgear - Nathan Buenconsejo - pinned by jeepney He is a kapadyak from Rain Forest in Pasig City
1127 deaths from bicycle accidents
The article reports that in 2005 to 2013, there were 1127 deaths arising from accidents involving bicycles compared to only 366 involving 4 wheeled or more vehicles. This is 3x more
I have long wanted to write on this to collate my experience on the said topic: perils of biking and how they can be motivated. It always escapes my attention until yesterday when a twenty foot container plowed into several people killing four in Taytay Rizal. Another post at facebook showed a donation campaign for a biker who met an accident in Antipolo: he broke his jaw when his brake locked which caused his fall. He needed jaw reconstruction which cost a lot of money.
Many of us would dismiss or shrug off the dangers and just be careful; when we have to go we go. And we would like to go with our boots on (cleats on) rather than wait for our time on the rocking chair.
I would like to list down classifications of causes/sources of dangers from biking:

Danger risks abound as we bike
Wheels of Happiness
Rizal Philippines
March 6, 2017
Post Baguio City ride, Vhen Apran and I discussed the dangers that surrounded us as we biked.
What are they:
1. Buses and and and trucks whiz by at high speed, inches away.
2. Tricycles animals and pedestrians suddenly dart out from between parked vehicles and worse from out of nowhere.
3. In Paniqui, I was nearly sideswiped by a high speed tricycle. He was just inches away and I could have been injured once again (I am barely fully recovered from my collision with Alan;
4. In Baguio City in before Kennon road, in the section undergoing construction, as we tried to bike away from the car stopped by one way we negotiated the section on the right side of the vehicles on the right side of which are meter deep ditches. One mistake and you could be injured by a fall into this ditches.
5. As we follow the peloton they do counterflows and if you do not watch out, you could be get a head on collision with the opposing traffic.
6. I went on this ride with a defective headset. There was lot of rattling and strange noises. I could have a run away wheel on a bad bump. Thanks God it did not happen.
7. As we ride to Urdaneta, late into the afternoon, I have to slow down by 5 kph because it was dark. I could bump people or fall into a rut.
