Some of the rules on success and getting wealthy says its all about improving oneself everyday in whatever you do. It is not about getting more money or more material possessions. IT IS ALL ABOUT GETTING BETTER EVERYDAY.
None could be more visible in our rides. One can ride the same way for the entire year. or you could seek improvement. Or one could buy upgrades. The rule is upgrade you. One may have the latest SRAM 1 x 11 group set with 42 largest cog, or the lightest carbon fiber frame or wheel set. But you could pedal yet at the same rate or still ride at 20 mph.
Why dont you attempt riding at 30 kph, ascend the hill at 13 kph instead of just 8 kph? Or sprint before reaching the top when your legs are about conking out? Or how about chasing somebody who passes you?
As for me for yesterday ride (at San Carlos Antenna) and today's ride (at Cardona loop 2x) I achieved the following:
1. Climbing San Carlos from Gate 2;
2. Climbing the antenna without falling on the rugged road;
3. Completing the climb using 34 x 32 (other riders were climbing at 24 x 32 or 28 x 44)
4. Sprinting at flats at 42 kph using an MTB ( I managed to chase an MTB from Pasig who was showing off his speed) and even led him at Callahan until Morong.)

There are endless ways in biking to be better
Real Cyclists
One reason why we love biking is that there is an infiinite number of ways that you can be better.
l. Speed on flat, on curves, going uphill, going downhill
2. Endurance - how far can your ride without taking a rest; when the sun is hot, when it is windy?
3. Climbing hills: on high gear, or low gear; standing up, or sitting down
4. Riding with peloton with headwind, with sidewind.
5. Braking
6. Handling crash
7. Hand signals in peloton
8. Riding in a traffic, counter flow
9 Road safety
10. Handling pains post ride
11. Diet and nutrition
12. Time trialling
I for instance, I have to learn to how catch up with peloton, or as they attack hills. So I have to practice interval and learn to bike without gasping for breath and having heavy thighs when going gets hard.
I must practice time trial
I am sure, you will not get tired nor bored learning to do this things

Recylists are getting better and faster
Biking and health
Pines Breeze Hotel, Baguio City, January 26, 2013
VM at the paceline, Jess behind; somewhere in Pangasinan
In the recognition period last night, it was mentioned that the Recyclists are not just recreational weekend bikers but biker to contend with. Richard mentioned that the actual time on bike spent for the 280 km journeys is only 8 hours.
The Angeles city to Tarlac ride, a distance of 39.2 km took the paceline only one full hour to travel. They were doing 40+ km (even 45 kph)
The Urdaneta ride to Rosario (a 34 km distance) took only a little over an hour to ride. When I took the bus, it took the bus 45 minutes to cover.
The ride to Baguio Lions head (a 35 km distance) took l hour 30 minutes (a good part from 9 am to 930 was photo ops. We arrived at Camp 6 at 11 am and Lions head by 12 noon. Another 30 mins for photo ops. That is why we reached the view deck by 1 pm. All in all the total ride from La Union would be 2:30. (It used to be 3 full hours)
