My FB page - Senior Rides , soon to be Senior Repairs

Wheels of Happiness

This page which has been the nth attempt to publish posts on biking (they were dumped by the host on alleged violation of community standards.) is not named Senior Rides.  Am senior now and I post my rides.

However, I have posted lately many articles on repairs thus am jokingly hash tagging it as #SeniorRepairs

But it does not get much readership because repairing is detailed and tedious.   Many bikers just want to ride and enjoy

However learning to repair the bike yourself:   1.  saves you money   2.  saves you trouble in long rides, 3 enables you to help others in case of others encountering bike problems   4.  it bonds you closer to your bike.    5. it makes bike mechanics more alert and more careful in their jobs

You meet all kinds of people on line; on group buy and sell

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
February 6, 2018

You will encounter all kinds of people on line;  very challenging and interesting. At worse you will get sleepless and worrisome nights;  or you can be scammed:   I have seen and  met gentlemen and honorable: riders  I bought a very light wheelset from a Chinese businessman he was on time and gave me a little discount.  I met too an owner of luxury car parts and repair shop who was selling a GS for someone.  He gave me a huge discount, albeit there were rusts and deep scratches on the carbon parts.

I bought a pair of Ultegra direct mount brakes cheap at Alabang. The transaction was straight forward and quick.They were the very nice
ones.

When I inquired from fellow riders, those who are regular on line sellers who are triple A are:

      1. Kevin Timoteo
      2.  Theodore Laquena
      3.  Jhun Quintain
      4. Bong Cancejo
      5.  168

  Yon lang daw ang A ok....
However you can meet the regular guys:  those who change their minds and back out, those who will not give you warranty and resents giving one.

1.  What is bad that even for meet up are:

      1.  He gives you defective part (as in the case of Conti tube I bought) that has a bleb;
      2.  The party does not arrive or arrives very late.

2.  For the pre order as I am experiencing now:

    After you sent the money:

    1. Will not acknowledge the receipt of the cash;
    2. Will not send you the goods at once;
    3.  May not send the item ordered;
    4.  Or kulang mga piyesa or what was promised.

  I have my nervous moment.  Since Thursday, after I sent 22k payment, the the other party answered only now (after joking him that the money may land in a gf account. before I sent the money)   And lo he would not be able to send the item, because he got the wrong size...😅 I made sure we had a contract...Sana mas lalago business nila if they had good phone and communications ethics and an image of reliablility

3.  Advertising broken or defective products.

    I have seen a  df wheelset being sold cheap and the seller was kind enough to point out that there is damage that is why he is selling it a big discount.  However there was representation that it could be repaired somewhere and the somewhere replied quickly that it could not be done that would not compromise the safety of the new owner.

   I saw another post that says that there is a crack in the frame and it could be repaired well.

   As to the carbon fiber, unless there was a big crash or heavy object that fell on the cf frame, it would not disintegrate. But some break.

The FB groups for posting online is free and everybody and everybody can buy and sell without being pre qualified and screened.  And it cant be avoided that there will be posers and bad eggs and apples getting mixed up with good ones.  The admin is ill equipped to handle the screening and curating the members: policing nor sanctioning slapping penalties violators :  for criminals.

In the meantime, it is not bad to be paranoid.  Andrew Grove of Intel said:  "Only the paranoid survive"
If the advice or admonition always is to "Ingat sa ride"    Ingat din sa mga ka deal online.  That is the only way not to get scammed or short changed

Scaling Baguio City for the 7th time, at the age of 65

Wheels of Happiness

Happy Hearts day tomorrow.

This weekend, the Angono Recyclists have an achievement of sort:  it was the biggest group so far, 27 in all, we had great accommodations:

1.  courtesy of Engr. June Francisco.  He allowed his unit at Urdaneta home and office to be used for sleeping quarters for the Recyclists; (aircon ang 2nd floor ng house pati ang office)

2. Pine Breeze, we were billeted at H1, H2, H3 F1, F2 and F4 in four different locations and we had cookware, plates, towels and bed sheets, plenty of water.  And plenty of exercise and just near the city proper.  Inasal was 10 mins away

3.  We were fetched (the twelve of us:  Richard, Exequiel, Chito, Meong, Boknoy, Joel, Jericho, Jess V, JUS, Armin, guests bikers:  June Balbin, Jake and Matthew  by a van hired from Cardona for straight contract of P4 t only, we shoulder the cost of  toll and gas.  We were billed by Richard for only P550, each much much lower than the P750 for express and a little bit higher than P450 regular fare.  We used the van for shopping and it was point to point travel.  We were offloaded in Angono, for most of us, but Joel, Jun were brought near their houses

It was significant because none of the riders quit, and we reached our goal in record time.  There were first timers and there were revenge riders (those who did not finish before but finished now.)

All of us were given certificate of Recognition by Pres Luis and VM Jun Vic at the socials/fellowship held at H1 H2 quarters.  Boknoy was given an initiation.

Thanks Pres Luis, VM Jun Vic, Richard, and Sec Noe. and most specially to Engr. June for the special accommodations.  Congratulations also to him for having conquered Baguio by bike for the first time in his guapo and super light Wilier Bike. The more he will strive to have more Baguio City rides in the future

This is an experimental post, where I dumped all the posts at FB and simply embedded the post at blog (before it used to be the other way around:  blog and then link to FB

How fast time flies. It is all ready the middle of January.

This morning, while I tried to see off other kapadyak for their Sierra Madre ride at Simple Lugawan, I spied on the bike of Engr June a Willier shod with Zipp wheels and Durace group set.  He bought this from VM at a mid 6 number figure  But it is a great looking bike,  He sold his Look Bike for this purchase.  Congrats Engr. June.

Let us see that climb Baguio:

Verify online, FB ads on bike, bike parts for sale

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
May 28, 2016

I was mesmerized by an ad and personal offer by the top honcho of an up and coming bike store; ie that a bike model that used to cost P42,000 is now only at P25,000.  And yes, it can be bought via credit card. It was purported to be as, as carbon fiber frame to weigh only 10 kg.

So I burned the lines contacting their downtown store, getting my credit card ready, and/or raising cash and spent 3 hours commuting to their down town store.

However when I saw the bike, it was heavy, (may be 15 kg instead of the claimed 10 kg.)  It is a mechanical bike, and the one that I bought before and sold for a bargain amount is much much better.

And so I left and disappointed, my enthusiasm doused with cold water

We had a great ride yesterday to Wind turbine farm in Bugarin with MTB kapadyak of Richard

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
April 3, 2016

Richard Ang invited me via FB pm, and I joined yesterday a group ride to Wind Turbine farm in Bugarin Pililla.  Assembly was 5:30 Jollibee Angono downtown.  Most of the riders were there at 5:30, except for Richard who came some 10 minutes later.  We met up with two other riders from San Carlos and off we went.  Our first stop was at Simples Lugawan (well they did not eat there)  We rested there for 10 minutes.  Nolite arrived there too.

Then we proceeded to Hacienda Pisong Kape, then to Bugarin.  I had a chance to have buko at OL where I waited for them to arrive and then to wind turbine farm.   There was a lot of picture taking and fun too.

One can not but marvel at the size and might of the wind turbine.  They are all ready functioning but not interconnected yet to the grid.  Sayang ang power.  We went home by 10:00.  We stopped at the Cardona Morong pit stop where we had some cold drinks (Lemon Soda at 10 pesos each)

In order to take their pictures, I had to sprint ahead of them, gain  by say 1 to 2 minutes to set up for the pics.  I was tired:   one in Calllahan, one in Baras Tanay boundary hill, one in Biak na bato, and one at OL.

Hera are some embedded picture from FB:
