What is the best lube for chains? Wax? From Velo News

Real Cyclists

From Velo News | Lubricating chains with wax | March 2013

The March issue of Velo News suggests that lubricating chain with wax contribute to the chains efficiency and several watts.  Others in the forum/comments suggest that paraffin might actually indicate that it could be kerosene.

Others say that the only way is to keep the chain clean after every ride. But the test were very much detailed.

So would you lubricate your chain with wax?

I tried doing this this afternoon.  I mixed a little water, baby oil, kerosene and candle wax and heated the same in a can in low fire for two minutes.  Then I brushed the mixture on chains after I cleaned them.

The results were outstanding.  The chain felt slippier and I pedalled easier.  Maybe you should try this.

Disc brake for road bike or cantilevers? (rim brakes)

Real Cyclists

From Velo News | February 12, 2013

Would you install disc brake in your roadies?  The disc has been around for MTBs.  Many swear to their braking efficiency that you can modulate braking better, you can brake later.

However, previous users also swear that disc brakes can cause injuries (they can cut your fingers- they are sharp), wear fast and can get fouled easily by rain and dirt.  Europeans dont use disc brakes in their roadies.  They are also heavy.

What do you prefer?

What is your experience?

In the future would you install disc brake in your road bike?

Velo News test drive on Durace aero wheels

Real Cyclists

From Velo News | 5 days ago.

It seems kind of late because the Durace aero wheels, even the carbon type has been around in the PHL.  The CTU 75 and CTU 50 which sells at   at $3,200 and $2,900 weigh in at 1,449 and  1,672 grams respectively.  It is lighter than Zipp 808.

Are Shimano wheelsets the best?  One said his spokes kept on breaking and each proprietary spoke cost $10 each.

Another commented that Mavic Kysirium is much better. (Mine is Aksium and I am happy with it costs only $250.00 a pair)
