Cleaning and regreasing of Campy crank

Wheels of Happiness

I met Mario Toledo, my best mechanic,  yesterday at a mountain trail road and hastily I consulted the campy crank, (the bearing of which was just replaced)  which has not be been rotating smoothly.  He advised that I should disassemble, clean, and regrease.

Which I did today.  Removal of the 10mm crank bolt (and reinstalling is a challenge).

True enough the crank axle is dirty and the non drive bearing is a little bit sticky.  So I cleaned the crank axle the bearing, and the crank shell. Generously regreased the bearing and the axle with synthetic lighter grease.   How could they all be so grimy after just three months?   Its good that the bearings were still in good shape.

Now the crank now turn faster and smoother.  I must have lost 10-15 watts with the dirty

Getting used to the two by set up with a 29er

Wheels of Happiness

5.25.2021

This post is testing his 29er two by set up:(34 and 24 front chain rings  11 -42 rear cogs combination)     first with a long ride to MM,, and second, hard climb to Antenna hill.   Anxious about chain falling off, and shifting malfunction.     Fortunately there was none;   the set up was DIY and has not been inspected tested by a bike mechanic.  How would the bike hold out vs conventional set up.

1.  On the flat. - I was even ahead of the group at 34 x 10.  If you compute:   34//10  =  3.4 x 29 inches =  98.6 gear inches nearly near to a 53/12 x 27 = 119.  Of course there is still a 19 gear inches difference.  However, this is tough on the calf muscles.

Now this is the reason why MTBs overtake even RBs on the ride..

I computed with an Engineer these gear ratios.

If you have a 38 chain ring in front and you have 10 smallest gear at the back  (SRAM has 9), you have 38/10 =   3.8 x 29  =   110.   Then you are at par with a RB with 53t front chain ring

2.  Going up  -  I tried the set up at Antenna hills where the climbs are stiff and steep.  I stayed at 34 (the primary gear of the two by) and used mostly 34 x 34, and 34 x 36.  I did not have to shift at 42   I did not shift to the 24 (No 1) gear.

I am happy with the bike performance.  Going two by was just keeping up with the trend, and experiencing what other MTB riders are experiencing,

EPS Nano Technology

The videos of Colnago carbon fiber manufacture, and the other videos by some of local vlogs left me confused.

Looking closely at the explanation, it is nothing more than technology for molding of carbon fiber.  The internal mandrel are made of ethyl polystyrene,  making it possible to come out with single unitary frame (unlike the colnago method of pasting together carbon pipes).   The internal surface of the frame is smoother and there are less stresses.

The bike which I ordered, an MTB leopard is equipped with Shimanao groupset 5100 (Deore) with 11-42t, 10 speed, remote lock.  There are other models that come out with 1 by with SRAM GS.

They also have RB and these will give the high end bikes a run for their money.  Many can now buy carbon fiber framed bikes at affordable price.   The net price I got for my bike, after deducting the e commerce platform, Credit Card discount is lower than the price of the frame.

The earlier Chinese carbon bikes  of yore.  were heavy (because they want these to be strong and sturdy)   They must have upped their learning curve on carbon technology.  I had to sell my carbon MTB because it was heavy.  But probably it was sturdy.  Its GS was not inspiring.

We exactly do not know what type of mold forms are being used.

(Nothing high tech about the eps - just mold making technique) But marketing game make the whole thing so unique and revolutionary leaving many of us guessing and confused.

But in terms of cost, maybe they can make frames cheaper, and faster and more affordable.  And nothing can beat price

Look at their marketing  product package too.  Early in the game, they are making their bikes so affordable and so attractive.     They are also one of the two bike firms that came out with 13 speed. (theirs cost P40K plus )  x by.  (The other is Forever alum though at  25K?)

    1.  It has a remote controlled lock out;
    2.  It has an air shock;
    3.  It comes equipped with Kenda 1.95 tires;
    4.  Hydro Shimano M200 brakes,
    5.  Shimano changer rd, fd, albeit sunrace cogs.

Akala ko kahapon katapusan ko matapos banggain ng red Hyundai Eon MU 2041 sa may tapat ng sabungan sa pag asa mga 10:30 am kahapon.   Kalalagpas ko lang ng traffic light intersection sa may shell

Walang kasalubong at wala akong napansing kasunod (kasi nga malakas ang ulan)  Then all of the sudden, sinuyod ako sa left ng isang red Eon.

You meet the baddest people on an Eon???

2nd time na akong binunggo ng Hyundai:  first ng Tucson sa Pag asa rin sa may barrio road at ngayon Eon
More panalangin ingat kailangan...

Ingat sa mga Road Psycho o mga Bulag na Driver Mga Kapadyak

From Human Cyclists - Less Psychopaths or More Paths

Sorry mate, I didn't see you
                                                 Di nakita o sinadya

There could be so many morons, homicidal speed maniacs on the road. Even drug addicts.  Did you watch  a pick up that bumped a biker and even ran him down.    Parang road kill ang sinasagasaan.  Mabuti di namatay ang rider.

On the way up to Sampaloc last Thursday, a Fortunner driver with heavenly tinted glass made a U turn (I bet his wife was not his companion) and had A SUA (sudden unexplained activity)    he opened his window and asked me if there was any problem

Some guys need to have psycho exam.  Or have them confined at NCMH.  I think the Mandaluyong space would not accommodate the numerous  psycho enemies of bikers
