The demise of a compare/barkada leaves me a lone survivor

Wheels of Happiness

This post just learned last night the demise of a barkada, a compare, due to complications from diabetes.  He had sepsis from gangrenous foot.  I have the same chronic condition that has persisted for the last 3 decades but perhaps being held at bay by medication, exercise, diet and medication.

There were 4 of us as barkada in cycling when we were in HS.   The two others have gone ahead;   one from stroke due to too much drinking, the other one from diabetes, and the 3rd one also to diabetes. I am thankful to be survivor.  It is so sad though that I am alone as a senior  However, each one had their clan to manage and were not mindful of me during the last two decades.   They had not missed me

But delaying the action to have the wounds treated soon, did my compadre in.  This reminds me of the fraility of life, and how precarious our situation is when one is all ready senior and with pre existing condition.   One should feel blessed and thankful for each day we are alive.

Let us give thanks

Biking for good health and long life

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
June 13, 2016

Today I biked to San Carlos Heights using the Ti. MTB.  I did 3x up and down Tolentino up to the paved portion of the road till the 2nd way of the cross.  That is lung busting.  I must have seen about a dozen MTB climb up the antenna.  I saw Atty Arceo whom I initially mistook at Ego Villamayor.  He had fat bike MTB with him.

Down at Angono, near lugawan, I saw the biker who did the Gate 2 climb doing a cross stitch.  He said he used 24 x 15.  Wow.  He said his name is Jake from Taytay and was with 3 others

This is a way of washing away from my mind the death of a kumpare last Saturday from complications of diabetes.  He died from lockjaw because of infected gangrenous leg, which he refused to be amputated.  But it smelled of dead carcass according to his wife and had fly larva all ready.

I hope biking will give me longer life and lower my blood sugar.  I pray

This chemical can make you fat, infertile and even diabetic

Biking and health

Without us knowing it we are exposed to many chemicals can be exposed that can be harmful to health.  They can cause diabetes, infertility, and even obesity.

They are called phthlates.  They are found in perfumes, cosmetics, plastics, and other toxins in the atmosphere.

However eating fresh vegetables can mitigate the phthlates harmful effects.

Even low level of exposure can cause health problems

Conversation with Prof Terence, an athlete and a Diabetic

Bike and Save the Earth

In the AGSB Christmas party, during lunchtime, I happened to be seated beside Prof Terence of Opeman cluster who happens to have that day as his blood sugar to be 200.  He is therefore a confirmed diabetic just like me.  We discussed among other things to exercise regularly, eat food that is low in glycemic index, graze (eat small quantity during the day) take the maintenance meds regularly. Beware of hypoglycemia;  thefore eat on time.  Do not be hungry.  Always have sugar shot (chocolate or coke) ready in case you have hypoglycemic attack.

You can lead a regular and happy life even if you have diabetes if you follow the doctor's advice and take your meds regularly. And If you exercise like biking.
