Rode a bus to La Union; bus passed by Dau Public Market, recalled accident on the way to Baguio ride

Wheels of Happiness

This post went to La Union on business trip  via bus and surprise the bus after stopping at Dau terminal, went through MacArthur highway and this post recalled the accident I had several years back on the way to Baguio City ride.   An MC which was unregistered driven by a youngster without license slammed into the right side  (illegally overtaking from the right) of the bike, a Pinarello Dogma with a Bora wheelset,  hitting the carbon wheelset.    I and my bike scattered along the highway.  Unfortunately the justice palakasan system freed the youngster who caused the accident.    Despite the fact that the Public Officer were threatened by a Mun Council Sec who was with us, a lawyer.

Fortunately for me, I was able to continue on the damaged bike.  But eventually my bike wheelset gave way and had to be replaced.

I now fear long trips due to this incident.

Primer on ADD

Honestly I reacted when there were news that there were apprehension of bikers and MC riders during the first day of the implementation of the ADD.

I researched and found out that yes, bikers and MC riders are covered.   For as long as you are on the road, even if you are on skateboard, or cart, or walking, you are covered.

So fellow riders, if you ride, don't text or answer a phone or make a call (as I see most of our kapadyaks are).  If there is a strict enforcer, you will be caught and fined.

What vehicles are covered by the act?
  • It covers ALL public and private vehicles, wheeled agricultural machines (tractors, loaders, etc.), construction equipment, and other vehicles such as bikes, pedicabs, trolleys, habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire), kuliglig (tricycle-for-hire), wagons, carriages, and carts that may be human- or animal-powered. Basically, if it’s on the road and you’re using it, it’s covered (apart from skateboards or feet).

It is boring to see the butts of the riders or only when they pose or eat.  Here are some of their pictures on the ride.

Bike lessons that I learned over the years

Wheels of Happiness

September 13, 2015

I have been itching to write this post for a long long time but I had no time to gather my thoughts. For the last 7  years, I got the following tips which I dare share to others:

1.  Stay focussed on why you want to bike:  say health, strong body, adventure and do not be distracted with crashes, mechanical problems,  or expenses. Other keep on saying that what you spend on your bike would just be one day at ICU (knock on wood if you get sick)

2. Spend on your bike up to a certain limit, and love your bike afterwards.  Do not be afflicted with UPGRADITIS ie buying a new bike, a new wheelset, new handlebar or seat.    Love your bike and focus how it could be your good partner on many of your adventure and long rides.

Should you bike on Friday the 13th?

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL   |  September 13, 2013

I planned to bike today.  The roads were wet this morning plus when I watched the early morning TV show, was reminded that today is Friday the 13th.

I was spooked and decided not to go.  I can ride another day without much worry.

Should you believe in superstition?

Should you not ride on Friday the 13th.

I have been spooked because the olds tell not to bike or go out on Holy Week.  I rode to Baguio and disregarded the warning.  I crashed on Black Saturday, broke my nose and had to undergo an expensive nose operation.  (If I had not done that, all my brains would have leaked from my nose)
