Adjusting brakes of S works (built in) Venge Vias

Wheels of Happiness

Due to wear and tear and passage of time, the brakes of S works Venge Vias have become weak.  No amount of barrel adjustment would make it work.

I thought over what could be wrong.  ?   The cables may have stretched and the limit of the brake line  barrel adjuster was reached.   So I removed the wheels, adjusted the cable of the brakes (about 2 mm tighter) and barreled down the barrel adjuster to the max.  So that when I turn it counter clockwise, there is a lot of travel for the adjuster to tighten the cable.

Solved.  Saved P200.00 pf for the bike mechanics

Chain kept jumping off, and chain rub at FD and other fitment pains of 2 b by

The chain kept falling off the front chain ring.  I was tempted to go to the LBS mechanic.
I found out the cause - the high position of the front derailleur relative to the largest chain ring.  Since the large chain ring has been removed, the clearance between the lower edge of the FD and the tooth line of the chain ring should be at least 2 mm (a coin thickness)  The current clearance is about 150 mm.

So I lowered the front derailleur.

Furthermore, there is a chain rub that would not diisappear despite the adjustment of the limit screws.  There is where the barrel adjuster was useful.  I turned it CC or CCW until the sound disappeared.

Two problems solved..  No need to go to the mechanic.

What to Do When you Chain Jump on the Gears?

Have bike, we will help save the earth...

As we were climbing Caliraya, the chain  of Angel jumped on the sprocket.  He could not concentrate on his climb.  I told him to adjust his barrel adjuster by l/2 turn.  I thought he knew where it was.  He said he did he turned it but his chain continued to jump on the sprocket.  As an excuse to rest, I went down my bike and adjusted his barrel adjuster.  The jumping stopped.

So I asked him, how does he store his bike after a ride.  He said, the chain is on the largest, and the sprocket likewise is on the largest gear.

I told him to rest all the cables by putting the shift on the smallest chainwheel in front and sprocket at the back.  If the cables are taught because they are on the largest ring or sprocket, the cable will stretch and the gears change will be missed.   Please take note of this helpful tip so you do not make frequent trips to the mechanic.
