Went on a Jalajala ride with a kapadyak a Dr, usually at Domsa, riding on his MV

Wheels of Happiness

This post went with a Dr. kapadyak from DOMSA.  I met him yesterday and this post decided to visit it now, the day after our meeting.  There are other trips to be made and this project seem to be pending forever.  It was pending then, and pending now.

It is a huge estate and its intestate 33 hectares,   And we talk about the 3rd generation of heirs.

We went up higher this time to observe the overlooking portions, and one of its strength - being source of the potable water in the Barangay.   But we were about still 500 meters off, and there are summits still far away

Mango was being harvested (perhaps without their knowledge, and must be huge loss for the family)  There were forest trees growing and the soil seems to be suitable for agri forestry.   The most expensive tree seem to be growing here and we can have business of seedlings and seeds here.   The inputs for the project being conceptualized are here.  It looks more exciting.

We passed by Manang Rina at Bugarin and had snacks there.   The Dr and Manang Rina knew each other  Manang Rina was operated on for free by the companion of the good Dr.

It was a great trip, ride on a Motor Vehicle.

Biked longer yesterday up to Bugarin 80 km total

Wheels of Happiness

This post biked longer yesterday being Sunday and biked up Bugarin.   Since the electronic group set automatically prevents cross chaining by dropping the chain ring to 34 once the rear cog is shifted to 17 and lower, the bike ride was relatively easier

It is to be noted that the Biak na Bato is being widened and the atmosphere at that portion of Halayhayin is much much better

Riding stronger (and maybe faster)

Wheels of Happiness

This post rode up to Bugarin KM 69, and Nanay Rina last Tudesday, using 50 chain ring, and 28 cogs until KM 66, and  50 x 32 up to KM 69.   That is quite hard gear

Before I used to climb Bugarin at 34 or 36 x 28, or 30t.  But now as a senior, I climb up using hard gears.  They say that is the best way to get stronger.  And feel like young again.   Stopping or getting lazy or easy will not do anything for your physique.  You will get weaker, you get osteoporosis, and back pains

Conversation with Nanay Rina at Bugarin re young riders

Wheels of Happiness

I biked today to Bugarin (a distance of 40 km + from our place.  I took breakfast at her store which is the peak of Bugarin.   There were 3 other bikers, probably in their teens.

While I was taking my breakfast (coffee and spag, a rider whose tire was flat inquired if I had a portable pump.  I said yes.

Then Manang Rina who is 5 years older, whispered that most young riders leave house without having tools and or spare tire.  And Ii said yes, sometimes without PHP.

What is wrong.

Doored at Pililla KM 55; happy that it was not serious - no fractures, no dislocation

Wheels of Happiness

I rode last Thursday planning to go up to Bugarin (80 km , 40 x 2).  However,  this post met an accident -  was doored.  A ranger that had just parked left door suddenly opened, and I travelling at about 20 kph
slammed at the suddenly opened door.   My right bar hit the door, which caused me to swivel.  Fortunately I still stood upright, did not crash.   The right hood was sheared off, the rear wheel was misaligned.  Which was fixed by loosening and tightening the QR.  However the rubber hood was a total loss.  I was able to get it back but probably fell by the way side.

All the driver was able to do was to beg for forgiveness and scratch his head.  No offer to have my wounds treated (there slight bleeding at the left shin) or compensation.

I was still able to bike up to Bugarin in heavy gears.  (Big chainrin)  There was  slight pain, and I requested that I be fetched in Morong.  However there was no reply as the vehicle was on scheduled service.

I was finally fetched at Cardona after a long wait.  The people in the house did not want me to strain my legs for fear of hairline fracture (which has happened to wifey)

I was able to get x ray of my two legs early today  (there was none yesterday being a holiday) and got the results at 3 pm today.

No fracture or dislocatin.  Thanks the Lord.

May we request motorists not to suddenly open their door when they park along highways.  Look at their rear view mirror first.

For cyclist, maintain a 1 to 1.5 meter from parked about to park vehicles.     Or else you too may get doored.

Climbed Bugarin all the way to Manang Rinas eatery (KM 68) using big chain ring

Wheels of Happiness

My bike ride today was to Bugarin KM 68, using big chain ring 52 x 28.   Like the gear combination I used for the Teresa Antipolo loop.   Before I drop down to small chain ring before Km 63  (before climbing to the bamboo farm.   This time it was big chain ring all the way.   The going gets rough at km 64, right after the restaurant row.

But thereafter going gets less tough.  The gradient at Bugarin must be 5 to 12 max (or even less)

I dreaded going up Bugarin before   May gear was small chain ring ang the biggest cog at the rear

What was my feeling (especially that I just turned 73)
1.  Like Eureka -  see I did it big chain ring all the way;
2.  Like I was very young again;
3.  Like I had a new bike

I will try this at Cabrera, Domsa, diversion and Antenna.  I hope I dont break my chain.

Resuming long rides

Wheels of Happiness

Did not bike for a while because of extreme temperature.  One senior was known to  have died because of extreme heat.  He fell from his bike allegedly due to heat stroke.  Then he must have fractured his head from the fall.

By not biking I had a sore knee and it limited

Since the rains started to fall, it has been cooler.   Last Thursday, I did a 40 km ride, today I did the same

This post noticed though:

1. That Bicol Ni is being demolished and refurbished;
2.  That there are 3 subdivisions  mostly owned by a large realtor developer  which has caused the removal of green foliage from once cool Bugarin.
3.  Very few biked because it rained last night.

Nilait ang Rizal sa climbing destination

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
6.29.2021

Kaya dapat humble tayo at huwag magyabang at manlait tungkol sa lakas natin

Practicing for the 1,800 Gensan Ride

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
April 24, 2018

Mr. Vhen Apran and I practiced today by riding from Angono to Morong, Teresa, and Antipolo.  Unfortunately for me, I lost the missing link near the new Taytay Market.  I had to do a scooter like ride ie pushing off with left leg and coasting along when there is momentum.  Fortunately for Vhen, he rescued me and pushed me home from San Francisco to near M. Diaz.  Thanks Vhen

But we had great ride.  Going up between Morong and and Teresa, and Teresa and Antipolo.  I did not have to go to 32 sprocket.  Only 28 t.   We spent some time at Antipolo Church.

Ride last April 22, 2018

Four of us rode:   Reymundo Pactao, I,  Jovencio and Jaime Maravillosa.  It was supposed to be a 3j practice ride for the 1,800 km odyssey to GenSan.  The 3J are:   Jorge, Jaime, and Jovencio

Reymundo, I and Vhen were on the first part of the practice from Angono to Morong.  Since Reymundo is young I have to keep pace with him.  However, I mayabang tried to outsprint him at Callahan and Namay.  Medyo dipa lang ang distancia.

Then Jim joined us at Pisong Kape.  We were not clear as to where we were going. They changed from Jalajala to Bugarin and to Bugarin I went up.  (Di pala sa Jala jala) But they joined me later on.  Reymond was pacing at 10 to 12 kph and the two other seniors were left by about a km.  We had buko at OL and then went home.  It was pretty hot.  And this calls for early biking time to avoid the heat.

7 days met accident at Bugarin today this morning

Wheels of Happiness

At Rizal Philippines
January 8, 2018

At about 12.00 noon I was at Hacienda Pisong Kape restaurant and Chris, the owner told me that one of
our kapadyak met accident at Bugarin - he was bumped by a careless MC rider and had to be brought to Tanay Gen Hopsital.

Thinking that he might be well all ready, I passed by his house in Cardona (almost 2 pm, ang init) and found out that he was not yet home. He was waiting for his turn at the X ray (just to be sure he has no broken bones)

I am confident that Ed will be none for the worse.   Ang mabuting damo, ay binabantayan ng Lord.

Get well Ed

Di natuloy Kay Biyang ride to Ternate Cavite, Kay Manang na lang... dahil sa rains

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
November 5, 2017

The proposed ride to Kay Biang in Ternate Cavite (boundary of  Cavite Batangas tunnel) did not materialize today because of the non stop rains since last night.  As for me, I had lbm;    had 3 before I left, had another one at Sacred Heart Church.

I came across a group of Fixie riders (4) in front of Grandspan. One had a flat, and could not fix it since they do not have portable pump.  I waited for them and said they would  just tag along towards Bugarin.  But since they have superior gear ratios, they left me at Pantok..

It was my hard gear today, and tried to ride up hills, including  Montevideo and Callahan at 44 x 17.  It was hard and I had to stand.  Near the entrance of diversion, I saw Jeff, Alan and  Pres Luis having a drink/snacks.  They said they came all ready from Pisong Kape.  (I started about 7:30 all ready).  It was 9:30 all ready.  Gerry they said and another one went up Bugarin and said they would wait for Gerry Then Edgard came and he said he would bike to Morong to buy a capacitor for his aircon motor.   The shop was closed today or could have transferred to Sumulong St.   We split ways near the old municipal hall and I turned back going home.   The trio were no longer there  when I reached the former spot where I met them.

Was home by 11:00 am

Bike ride today, July 23, 2017 to Bugarin; rode together with Gerry and Vhen

Sava Ti Bike at Ali Express

I rode to Bugarin today. I brought out my Sava Ti.(MTB)   On the way from Tayuman to Morong, I rode with Gerry Cataps. We tried to chase a roadie with white and blue Jersey.  I overtook him for a while in Cardona, but he overtook me at Callahan and so with Gerry.   We had lugaw in Morong   and those who came were:  Alan, Netoy and and  Echo (long time no see)  We decided we would ride to OL.   And so we rode together with Taytay riders.   I did not see much of Gerry, but I remember overtaking Alan.  And towed  Gerry for a while.  At Baras hill, the tropa overtook me and may be they were ahead by about 500 meters at Pililla.  I did not see Gerry  and Alan but later on I saw them  going down all ready at km 67.

I rode up to km 68 (Bugarin na) and at heavy gear.   42 x 18 to 28.    That was a hard ride on a big chain ring.   On the way back I saw Vhen.  He said he was chasing me from Morong, and then from Pisong Kape to Bugarin and from OL up to  km  57 of Pililla.  We rode together alternating tranco.  We had some buko and turon at store near the intersection of diversion and road from Cardona.  We met many Mambog riders there.

However at  Binangonan Convention Center rain started to fall, and we had to seek shelter from the rains, after being exposed to very hot environment. We spent about 30 minutes for two episodes or rain.  We were home by 12 noon

Riding better as one gets older

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
May 2, 2016

My experience yesterday, riding up again Sampaloc, and from there riding up to the Wind Turbine farm in  Bugarin Pililla, proves that really only carabaos get old.  One can get stronger as a biker as one ages.  I will be 65 next month, and yet I can tackle as good or better than younger bikers.

I rode the entire stretch from Angono to Km 66 on 44 front chain ring and just changed the cogs from 11 to 17.  I climbed the km 61 using 44 x 30.    However I dropped to 34 x 28 and 34 x 30 riding up the final 3 km from 66 to 69.  I used the 34 chain ring going up to Bugarin.   at 23 to 30 cogs, but not at 32.

I sprinted as usual on flats and down hill.  Max of 46 kph going downhill at Baras and Bugarin;  up to 37 kph riding on flats. And that is on an MTB (the Mosso Falcon 1 with xt group set)

Did I ride yesterday on under inflated MTB tires?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
April 3, 2016

As we rode yesterday in Lagundi Morong going home from the Wind Turbine farm in Bugarin, Ven told me that my MTB tires were soft (under inflated?)  I thought not because I sprinted several times and led the riders most of the way.  I gave a run for their ride.

Well I checked today early morning and the tires pressure front and back were only 30 psi well below the recommended tire pressure of 65 psi.

I would make it a point that I would check the tire pressure before riding.  I had under inflated MTB tires when I rode the PNP Binangonan Cardona loop race.

Super guapo and super macho pics of the MTB kapadyak I joined yesterday

These are the memorable and superb pics of the MTB riders whom I joined yesterday to Bugarin Wind Turbine farm.  I had to take some risk taking some of the pics while riding.  For others, I have to ride ahead and wait for the riders to arrive to take their pictures:   one at Callahan, one in Baras Tanay boundary, one in Biak na Bato in Pililla, and last one at OL:

On the way back, one was in Lagundi, and the final one in front of URS in Binangonan:

Admire and savor their great pictures:

Magnificent high and mighty wind turbines at the Alternergy Farm in Bugarin Pililla

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
April 3, 2016

One can not help but marvel at the high and mighty wind turbines.  We can not describe with words the awe and wonder we have when we are near those electricity generating giants.

Here are their pictures:

The #altenergy #windturbines are magnificent. Words cant describe the power the might, the height of each of the tower. ...

The wind turbines are now a tourist attraction. There are so many visitors and many stalls selling food and souvenirs have sprouted near the entrance to the view deck:

We had a great ride yesterday to Wind turbine farm in Bugarin with MTB kapadyak of Richard

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
April 3, 2016

Richard Ang invited me via FB pm, and I joined yesterday a group ride to Wind Turbine farm in Bugarin Pililla.  Assembly was 5:30 Jollibee Angono downtown.  Most of the riders were there at 5:30, except for Richard who came some 10 minutes later.  We met up with two other riders from San Carlos and off we went.  Our first stop was at Simples Lugawan (well they did not eat there)  We rested there for 10 minutes.  Nolite arrived there too.

Then we proceeded to Hacienda Pisong Kape, then to Bugarin.  I had a chance to have buko at OL where I waited for them to arrive and then to wind turbine farm.   There was a lot of picture taking and fun too.

One can not but marvel at the size and might of the wind turbine.  They are all ready functioning but not interconnected yet to the grid.  Sayang ang power.  We went home by 10:00.  We stopped at the Cardona Morong pit stop where we had some cold drinks (Lemon Soda at 10 pesos each)

In order to take their pictures, I had to sprint ahead of them, gain  by say 1 to 2 minutes to set up for the pics.  I was tired:   one in Calllahan, one in Baras Tanay boundary hill, one in Biak na bato, and one at OL.

Hera are some embedded picture from FB:

The road from Sampaloc Tanay to the Windfarm in Bugarin

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
March 19, 2016

The purpose of the trip today, wherein I saw the Audax ride was to visit one of the cattle farms of my uncle.  Right before the jungle base, after passing the shortcut to Marcos Highway, before the Marcos highway there is a right turn and goes to Mapandan.  I remember turn right turn right and at the fork (the one that goes straight goes to the farm of my uncle) and then you see some rugged roads, a newly opened solar farm, then down and up to a dirt road (rather steep fit for MTB only) and then you see a winding stretch of newly built road to the wind farm of Altenergy up to km 66.  It cuts travel by 10 km between Sampaloc and Bugarin.  There are now many tiangges in the wind farm (to cater to many visitors and tourists)  This is the first time I passed through this road.  (Some say this is the road from Regina Rica)

Who among the 50 and above will win tomorrow's Bugarin bike race?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
December 19, 2015

Merry Christmas on Friday

Yesterday, I biked to Pisong Kape.  There I met Ed Valdez, Ed de los Reyes (7 days) and Pablo (Tsinelas)  Ed 7 days and I were ahead at Pisong Kape and we were discussing who are most likely to win the race at Bugarin on Sunday (sponsored by Manang Rita)   Among Boy walang practice, Ed V and Pablo, who would win.  Ed 7 days shouted it is going to be Ed V.  And just then Ed V and Pablo arrived.

Pablo conceded it is going to be Ed V.

They however lament that if O conducts it the way he conducted this for Pisong Kape, it is going to be tiring and demotivating. These senior riders lament:

1. Syndicates, corporation, as they called who view these races as livelihood and not for sportsmanship or fun.  They will cooperate to win at all costs including harassing other riders.

2.  Non observance of age groups.   40s join the 50 above group, etc.  A lot of dishonesty take palce.

Anyway, Ed V and Pablo went on to go to Bugarin and do the Jala jala loop. They invited me to join and promised there will be sprints.   Ed and I just went home

Will Guimaras be the MTB bike paradise of the Philippines

Wheels of Happiness

Guimaras, the  Bike Paradise of the Philippines?

The high cost of travel would discourage most of the MTB and would gravitate to local sites.

As of now many in Rizal and Metro Manila would prefer the Bugarin ride in Pililla especially now that there are wind turbines there.
