The bedlam and confusion at the finish line, and the cheating that goes on can be minimized by having RFID timing system.






Better system organization needed

While there are plenty of staff, more training and observance of processes to ensure fairness and sportsmanship is needed.  Many riders took advantage of the loophole:

1.  Lack of scrutineering of bikes. While the application form specified tire size of not lower than 2.0, there were many bikes which had narrower, lighter tires.  Unfair.

2.  More system needed in monitoring loops completed . There should be 2 recorders of per rider who passed by all ready.  This was done at the loop finish, but there should be another one at the diversion because he could have picked up the ribbons on the road, dropped by other riders and made a short cut.  And then the number of ribbons should have been checked at the finish line, even at random, and checked vs the written record.

An RFID monitoring system (but this would be expensive to have the transponder (meron bang for rent) and a race monitoring software should be made available.  This post said that the reusable RFID chip cost only $5 each.  This would reduce need for manpower, reduce confusion and bedlam, protest at finish line, anwarding

Merry Christmas on Friday

Yesterday, I biked to Pisong Kape.  There I met Ed Valdez, Ed de los Reyes (7 days) and Pablo (Tsinelas)  Ed 7 days and I were ahead at Pisong Kape and we were discussing who are most likely to win the race at Bugarin on Sunday (sponsored by Manang Rita)   Among Boy walang practice, Ed V and Pablo, who would win.  Ed 7 days shouted it is going to be Ed V.  And just then Ed V and Pablo arrived.

Pablo conceded it is going to be Ed V.

They however lament that if O conducts it the way he conducted this for Pisong Kape, it is going to be tiring and demotivating. These senior riders lament:

1. Syndicates, corporation, as they called who view these races as livelihood and not for sportsmanship or fun.  They will cooperate to win at all costs including harassing other riders.

2.  Non observance of age groups.   40s join the 50 above group, etc.  A lot of dishonesty take palce.

Anyway, Ed V and Pablo went on to go to Bugarin and do the Jala jala loop. They invited me to join and promised there will be sprints.   Ed and I just went home

                    The start and finish life of the criterium

I rode to Antipolo City yesterday.  However at 8:00 o clock, I decided to ride to Pasig City to investigate and take pictures of the probable cause of the last flood in Pasig Ortigas and Cainta.  However past Valley Golf (Gold) I saw Val beside me.  And he said he was riding to Rosario because there was a race.

And Choco choco was joining the race.   He said the group will probably ride to Rosario too. He patiently waited for me to take pictures of the narrow and obstructed creeks at Cainta and near Riverside.  We parted  ways at LIfe Homes. and took pictures of the Manggahan floodway and Pasig River.

And then I rode to Rosario.  I could not find him though.

I just watched the All Pasig MTB race which consisted of 5 laps.  The bike race was prep for the barangay fiesta on October 5 and was sponsored by Councilor Ricky Eusebio.

Bike for Health

I think most of the Recyclists-2010 do a Saturday ride.  That is why the Sunday riders do not have as much ride hours with those who bike on Saturdays.  What did we do today?

l.  Ride to overlooking site before Bugarin

        After gathering in Morong, at 8:00 am we ride from Maybancal.  As usual, before the Baras cemetery it was a race.  Guys were doing 45 to 47 kmh.  Of course I arrived a minute later as I was doing only 30 kmh on the average.  We had two waves going up overlooking.  Smith accompanied me  and said I was riding faster up the hill. I hope he was not just making me feel good.  The second wave included VM and Angel.

2.  We watched the Tanay Bike Race

         On the way back, at Tanay, right before the cemetery hill, we stopped to watch bike race.  It was a criterium race;  maybe five rounds round Tanay from Town proper to Manila East Road, Sampaloc road to Market, Provincial road, and to a crossroad going out at intersection with Manila East Road.  Some of the guys whom we know who joined the race were:    Papa Ric (in the 70+ category, sure winner, Boy, 7 days,  Jestoni, and Boyet.  We all cheered for them.  We left as soon as the race was over and went our own little races as we rode.

We had the usual stop overs at Pisong Cafe, overlooking, and in front of Calingo bike store.  No we did not ride through the Cardona bypass.  It was kind of hot.  We were early;  we were home by ll am; I was questioned for being early.

Absent were:   Amigo, Engr. June, and Master.  It is todays fiesta at Muzon where Master leaves -  for Christ the King
