Did a Cabrera road ride with a future mariner; it was a tough ride

Wheels of Happiness

Kinulit ako ni Jersey, apo of fmr hs  classmate to do a ride today.  I challenged him to the Cabrera road ride which I remembered to be just consisting of 3 hills but it turned out to be 6 hills and in a way, it was a Budol statement.

The toughest was the first hill near the ABC building and the second one was the one turning left going up near the OL bridge.  I was glad Jersey although behind by some 20 -30 meters managed it well.

Then we had Jbee near the Capitolyo.   Great ride.

Video of those who did it too.

Biked to Cardona, Bombongan, Teresa Antipolo and DOMSA this morning - riding for strength

Wheels of Happiness

Big chain ring ride -  FTP

To comply with FTP guidelines, and exercise beyond 70, this post tried to bike at challenging destination at big chainrings 50 (on SRAM red group set at S works).  Its all big chainring at Bombongan, except on one hill, and entire Teresa Antipolo and DOMSA climbs (ahon)

Kapadyak riders

At Bombongan, there were 5 riders from Pasig and Taguig who rode with me.  They were initially ahead of me but caught up with me near Alfamart.  Then they stopped at the bridge and sped away until San Guillermo crossing.   Was surprised to see that I was ahead of them before the Mun Building at Teresa.  They went via bukid in Teresa, and then again I was ahead of them past  Real Cove switch back.  Then sped away for good.

Saw some riders from Taytay.  Rhom Antonio said that I was ahead of him in Zigzag (at big chain rings)
There was also Lito Briones who I initially saw at Pag asa stop light.  Then I caught up with him and overtook him.  He overtook me at Pantok and he disappeared.  Aftewards, i saw him again at Teresa Morong boundary and he sped away.    (Doing that to a 73 yo hahaha)

Bukohan at Avida Antipolo after last Climb at Zigzag now sub for T..ng kabayan?

This is the nth time I saw many riders stopping here for a cold drink after negotiating the Teresa Antipolo zigzag.  About 12 riders stopped there -  most of those who

Made me stronger, strength training beyond 70.

It was not a chill ride.  The ride took my breath away, made my thighs and calf burn,   My feeling is that this ride made me feel stronger.   I could maybe TT for 25 kph for about 5 km.   Certainly much more improvement than when I was younger.

Imagine riding up all the hills of Teresa on 50 chain rings. At 50 x 32.

Maski 67 years old na at MTB dala, nakakahabol pa

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
June 24, 2018

Salunga 42 x 22. He6.

I climbed the Church in the Sky in Muzon 3x this morning

Tomorrow, there is a proposed ride  to Lukban Quezon. But the extreme heat now makes the possibility of that dim.  We may get a stroke or something else.  May be some other day.

This morning, our co workers had a PE at Church in the Sky (Christ the KIng) in Muzon Taytay. They walked. I biked (MTB) I had to climb it thrice. First ride up was shaky.  The bike zig zagged, I lost control and I had to get off the bike.

I tried again after the mass, to test whether it was the bike or my knees that had a defect.   None had the defect.  I was able to climb it up to the church without stopping  I met certain Engr Nino a chief surveyor of Sta. Lucia.   Who was 63 and admired I was able to do it.

Then came the last employee who joined and asked her to accompany me up.  I had to climb again.   It was kind of hard practice.

I suppose, very few of the parishioners manage to climb and attend church.    There is a lot of puffing and huffing that goes on.  On the other hand, those who go to church either spends a lot on tricycles, or are very healthy.

Recyclists bike ride today January 31, 2016

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
January 31, 2016.

It is the last day of the month. On Saturday, February 6, 2016, there is a scheduled return to San Felipe, and I heard about 10 riders are joining.  I left at 7:00 to bike to Pililla, Pisong Kape or possibly to Bugarin.  I brought my SARS bike (with MTB gears).  On the way, a group of Taytay riders passed me by at Pag asa.  I tried to keep up with them  until Mambog where they dropped me.  From Pag asa to Mambog however, I realized that they are not that Class A riders.  Oca Chua, who won a criterium race in Technopark yesterday was with us.

Thereafter, I came across  MTB riders from Pantok in Cardona and they overtook me at Callahan.  I got in contact with them and passed them at the flats at the Morong Cardona boundary.    Somebody gave chase at Km 51 but he disappeared at Km 52 because of too much rapid pedaling..  Passed again several MTBs along the way until Pililla.  I towed somebody though until Halayhayin and cursed him for not doing his sharing of breaking air.  There I saw a growing crowd of bikers assembling for the try outs.

About 10 roadies passed me near P y and I tried ot give chase and I passed an oldie whom I learned was Mang Cenon (72 yo) who knows VM.

I ate my Lugaw at Pisong Kape and it took 30 minutes for it to arrive. The food server who got the money forgot about it, and when I followed it up, she had wrapped up in plastic for take home.

The Recyclists arrived soon after:   Master E, Edgar, Meong, Joel, Pres Luis, Papa Ric, Nolite, Alan and Erning Mariposa.  He had his youngest with him, riding an MTB.  They said Gerry and company rode to Cartimar in Pasay to buy parts

On the way going home, I was ahead until the uphill at Tanay Baras boundary.   We again regrouped at the Cardona Morong boundary eatery

2015 Bisikleta Iglesia of Recyclists Yesterday, April 2, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal  Philippines   | April 3, 2015

Last church to be visited was in San Roque.Marikina City.  Recyclists pose with Fr. Nante Tolentino, cousin of Hanah (pamangkin ni Smith)  He even blessed us with Holy Water and our bikes

We had the annual ritual of doing the Bisikleta Iglesia (visit of 7 churches) to do the Way of the Cross as a form of penitential sacrifice.  However, instead of visiting churches at the Eastern Rizal, the group, decided c/o Pres Luis and adviser VM to go westward and towards MM.  So the FB page said we assemble at 5:30 am and leave for the Visita Iglesia:   Taytay, Cainta, Manggahan, Padre Pio, Sta Clara, Concepcion and Church of the Abandoned in San Roque Marikina City

These argonauts pushed us to our limits

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal Philippines   |  October 20, 2014

They say that after I took their picture, they are marked men.  Hahaha.  That is a sign of admiration sirs....

These very young riders caught up with us in Darangan Binangonan Rizal while we were spinning towards Morong.  I tried to give a chase, which was a mistake.  The swarm, the peloton caught up with me at Convention Center and I was left behind.

They say they are from Taytay, they are their 20s (1/3 my age) and their bikes are all Argon. (Hence the title of this post is Argonauts.)

However I caught up with VM, Luis and Val at Morong Rizal... Trying to catch up with strong riders raises our lactate levels, limits of our speed and endurance.

Ang kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan"

According to them their Argon bikes are cheap
