Recyclist Long Ride to eme (Bitukang Manok) last February 25, 2022

Wheels of Happiness

This post joined the February 25 -26 2022 long ride of Recyclists.   It was well participated with 30 + joining the ride.   The group left Angono at 5:25.  While it was initially planned that there would be three groups, no one dared do that.   Most of the joiners were strong riders and trained hard since January  (except for a couple)

The first stop was in Pililla at the Euluch lomihan. This was about 7:00 am.    They served the lomi rather late because they were overwhelmed.     We left the Lomihan at about 7:30 and were in Bugarin by  8:00.   Was able to get close to some of the fast riders including VM

Next stop was at Pakil at Manay's and we simply feasted on the eggs, bananas and softdrinks brought by Bernie T at Defender.  Next stop was at Pagsanjan, where we had photo ops and more eggs and bananas.   We were at Luisiana by  12;00 but lunch stop was at Lucban.   We ate at the diversion.  This post caught with some of the riders at Cavinti. and Lusiana.  Some had to resort to Defender ride because of cramps.

We were at Pagbilao by 3:00 and at Atimonan by 4:00 pm.  Returned to Lucena by 4:30 and was at Lucena by 5:30 However this post crashed in Pagbilao and the wounds were promptly dressed by the Hotel staff at Doorz and by Bernie.   I had two major rashes at the left elbow and hips.  And aching left shoulder.

The following day, the riders (me no longer included because I was disabled by the crash) left at 6:00 am after prayers.  We had breakfast at 7:00 am at Ranch resto along the diversion road.   Going up to Sariaya the troop coasted at about 30+ kph.  We were two casualty at the Defender because somebody else had cramps

At San Pablo they turned right and passed via San Pablo Calauan road which was steep.  It rained at thet time until the troop reached Calamba

We had lunch at Calamba by 12:00 We lunched  at MacDonald.     We were at C6 by 2:30 and home by 4:00  So since I was injured I requested that I be delivered home first.

Great long ride at the province

Wheels of Happiness

The ride yesterday started at 7:00 am.  But there were sporadic rain showers and we were rained out 2x and our other companions were furiously pedalling at 30+ kmh on mtb.  Whew.   It took us nearly an hour to reach the highway.

Then another 30 minutes of riding until we reached our "guide" heiress of a mt river resort who brought some food and refreshment for us.  After 17 km or riding,  10km flat and 7 km from highway to the foot of the mountains we finally made it to the resort.  The last km was a punishing uphill climb that was maybe 15% grade.    I made to the top without tulak.    Clear water with waterfall. and sumptuous lunch

Thanks was able to make this

Which is better for long ride - road bike or MTB?

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
3.28.2021.

Which is better for long ride:   MTB or road bike based on 3 factors:
                                             Road bike                            Mt bike
1.   Weight                                   /                                       x
2.   Tires                                      x                                        /
MTB tires safer at night and for rutted roads

3.    Riding position                    x                                       /

MTB at upright comfortable position especially for endurance rides

Short intense rides vs long slow rides

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
September 10, 2017

I have gone two long rides (Jariel's Peak, and Majayjay) doing only short rides:   10 to 15 km one way (20 to 30 km) but intense with interval and sprints up to 37 kmh.  I guess that enabled me to survive the ride without injuries nor distress.   But the minimum is 3x per week.  That would be between 60 to 90 km a day.

Whereas before I do week end ride up to Pisong Kape, 30 kms out (that would be sixty) but may be on slow ride.  Not too many sprints.

Which one is better?

Celebrating birthday with a long ride

Image result for celebrating birthday with long bike ride

Birthday cycling inspiration

I celebrated my 6 years after being senior last Tuesday by doing a long bike ride.  I planned to do a one way ride equivalent to my age.   So that would be riding up to Kalayaan (near the hydro power plant)  However, right after I reached Mabitac (the plain after Bugarin) it started to rain and I had to turn back.  I would have probably done only 45 km one way (21 km short)   On the way back about 11 am, it was all ready to shot.  The ride back going home took me 2.5  hours.  I got a flat tire in Calumpang.  There  was no puncture but the patches probably peeled off during the extreme heat.

The extreme heat (I all ready saw blue as I biked near home) let me decide not to join the long ride to San Felipe on Saturday

Celebrate your birthday on your bike

I missed my ride to Real but not my ride mileage.

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
May 1, 2017

I did not join the tropa in their Real ride with overnight stay at Baywatch yesterday because of the fear of heat exhaustion.   However this did not prevent me from having long rides yesterday and today.  Yesterday I rode up to Biak na bato or Km 59 for  32 km ride one way or 64 out and back.  Today, I rode near to Jala jala km 72 for 45 km one way or 90 km. That is a total of 154 km solo ride.

Today I did not miss the hot midday sun and the temperature could be around 40s.  I am glad I survived that with plenty of water drinks and stops

Questions about your motivation after a hard ride

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
August 31, 2016

My thigh still ache two days after the ride to Majayjay.  (220+  km in all out and back) and it was a two day ride with overnight stay at Majayjay.  Before we had day ride, which was was done in speed. I ask myself why did this happen to me?

Am I finished as a long distance endurance rider?

Am I getting old for this?

Was I wrong in choosing to have  this long ride?  Why did other younger riders not join this ride?

Or was it because I lacked long distance run, or that I used a heavier less aerodynamic bike (a mountain bike?)  Should have I brought the Fuji carbon or the Bianchi road bike instead.

Maybe when the pain is gone, I would no longer doubt my motivation.  It is still good, and I get good dividends from biking

Long ride to San Felipe Zambales October 30 to November 1, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
November 1. 2015

The brave strong riders at Babaybay in San Felipe, Zambales

At Subic overlooking SBMA opposite the cemetery

This was initiated by Gerry and Jeff.  The original joiners were Jeff, Gerry, Angel, Weng, Ed and Me (Jorgeusbiker) I was 50 50 because our business involved the dead.  However, since a daughter was in charge, it was time for me to get out of the box.

Only Angel, Gerry, Jeffrey and I appeared at the starting block.  I was awakened by the text of Jeff at 440.  I arrived at the Angono Plaza at 5:00 and still had to eat my breakfast at Rapsa lugawan at Balite and so we left at 5:30.  We were at junction at 6:00 and there was so much traffic. All ready.  We were at Marilao at 7:30 where we had additional breakfast/snack of pansit. We were at San Fernando at 10:00/  We had to quench our thirst there. I bought one 1/2 liter and 1 liter of water (15 pesos vs P20)but then again, Nestor Mariposa (father of choco2) phoned Angel that he would join us at San Fernando.  We waited for him until he arrived at 11:30 at Mcdo cor MacArthur and Gapan Olongapo road.  We arrived at Dinalupihan at 12:30.where we had lunch at a newly opened resto near Petron Station.  I had saging, chopsuey, rice and I paid for one additional 1.5 liter of RC cola to quench our thirst.  We left at 1:00 pm for Olongapo

We arrived at Olongapo by 3:00 pm where we went to a grocery near Mercury and even got acquainted with the SG Manuel who sold us his bike.  He said he had three and claims he is from Pasig.  The climb from Dinalupihan to Olongapo was torturous because there were two long climbs.  It is 18 km to Olongapo.

We hit San Marcelino by about 4:30 and there would still be 20 km to ride (San Narciso and San Felipe)  We took the shortcut so that we would by pass San Antonio. (that saved some 10 km)  The stretches of road were long and there were not too many vehicles.   Angel and I alternated in sprtinng on the stretch from San Marcelino to the crossing of San Antonio and San Felipe.  We arrived at 5:30 in San Felipe.   (Angel had a flat in San Marcelino, Nestor had a flat at second bridge some 3 km to San Felipe.)  Jeff could not locate the residence of his cousin George and the lights were all ready fading.  We did find him later after inquiring from bystanders.

The ride is significant in many ways because:

1.  It had the least number of participant in a long ride

2.  It was  long ride without back up;

3.  It is 200 km long and passed through 4 provinces:  Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales

4.  We have not been to this area.  We planned for this last year but we were able to do this.

Congratulations hardy riders:   Angel, Gerry Jeff, Nestor and Jorgeusbiker

Ven - "we will no longer join long rides"

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   |  October 13, 2014

Ven at extreme right, Gerry at the center

I visited Ven this morning and inquired how they did after the collapse from Pagsanjan last Sunday, October 5, 2014.  They (Gerry, Joel and Chito - the Mit boys) and him rode from Pagsanjan to Bugarin at Navarra, apparently tired.

According to Ven, he had 1.  huge cramps, 2. it was indeed a punishing ride and said that he and the guys who rode with him would not join the long rides again.  3.  It was dyahe because I did not collapse.

I said no such nonsense as the #2 because maybe they lacked the endurance ride.  More endurance ride will solve the cramping.

We hope to see you again in long ride.

We plan to bike to Sorsogon in December right?

Recyclists Long ride to Pagsanjan Yesterday August 31, 2014

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   |  September 1, 2014

This was scheduled last Saturday, August 30, 2014.  But  it did not materialize because there was slight rain in Cainta, Taytay, Angono Binangonan (there was none in Cardona and Morong as we found out.  Pres Luis also said that when they rode out with Jess at 8:00 to Morong and Teresa there was no rain.

Those who rode until Bugarin:

Armin, Pres Luis and I biked this morning; long ride to Caliraya this Sunday?

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal   |  February 27, 2014

I biked this morning after attending the 6:00 mass in Sacred Heart Parish.  On the way I saw a mountain biker near Tagpos whom I chased.  All the while, I thought he was behind me.  I found out at Darangan, that Pres Luis was the one who was actually following me.  Then at Calumpang highway,  I saw Armin join us.   I stopped at Montevideo because I have job.  But I tried to bike hard and join their pace.

I learned that they will go as far as Bugarin.  There will be long ride according to Caliraya, according to  Pres Luis. I dare say that I lack mileage and endurance

Angono, Rizal, Philippines  |  December 2, 2013

We thank Pres Luis Genavia, and the material support and guidance of fmr Vice Mayor Jun Vic during the entire year of 2013, who saw to that we Recyclists were challenged, and we did our best to improve our endurance, strength,  and speed.  During the year we were simply awesome.

Running at 40 kph from Morong to Pisong Kape, every week end was awesome.  And so with our long distance ride that were soooooo looooong.   Baguio ride from Manila,  the Lemery ride, and yesterday, the Ternate ride.   These rides attest to the accomplishment and achievement of our Recylists riders.

May this site suggest that by the end of the year, the riders be given certificates of achievement for the rides that they have undergone.

This way, these small certificates, signed and sealed by our President and VM Jun Vic
