Challenges from P80M road construction in our subdivision

Wheels of Happiness

Challenges from just finiished road construction

About  P80M were reportedly spent by DPWH in new road construction in our subdivision.  The trouble is since traffic was rerouted due to on going drainage construction at Baytown,   So many MC and MVs pass at MDiaz going through Edenville, and Baytown.   And they run through these streets at more than safe speed making it risky to cross M Diaz and even at times streets near our houses.  But this is a residential subdivsiion where we are supposed to be safe and secure.

Not sure anymore

Did urban biking today; a hot day

Wheels of Happiness

This post tried riding to km 10 today at MM.   Surprisingly traffic was light, and not so hot.   I felt stronger as I negotiated the fly over at 36 x 15.   Formerly it was at 36 x 32.   So much better now.

The only difficulty this post had was with an MC who overtook me from my right near an LTO testing center.  How could they be so unsafe?   And unmindful of traffic laws?

Rode to Pasig this morning; great practice in city biking and heat training

Wheels of Happiness

This post rode to Pasig MM and managed 17Km one way for total of 34 km.  Was to see ftf somebody at The Grove This was a great practice in riding amongst MC, riding in fumes and heavy traffic.   Traffic was heavy and you are always near danger - MC overtaking from your right;   near collision with vehicles head on or from behind.

Its odd to see traffic at Highway 2000 being managed according to the whim of traffic enforcer.  They turned off the traffic light and waiting can be as long as 5 minutes.    And you inhale all the fumes

At this hour, the bike lanes are occupied by parked vehicles.  They still have not acquired parking areas for their new cars!

You experience3 one great advantage ie being able to overtake at least 60 vehicles in bike lane.  Some MV still respect bike lanes but in Pasig, vehicles:   public and private hog the bike lanes.   There are great practice for riding uphills going up Rizal Provincial Hospital and the flyovers.   Great hill climbs.

Difficulties and challenges in a bike ride

Wheels of Happiness

Mostly they are pedestrians and other vehicles who pose danger to your life and limb:

1.  Pedestrians who suddenly dart out from their yard, in play;
2.  Vehicles which stops and whose door suddenly open
3.   Motor tricycle who makes turn, especially u turn without warning;
4.  MC who overtake both from right and left
5.  Mga pumipina:   trucks, buses, vans
6.   PUVs that suddenly stop and unload at the middle of the street and you are running at 30+ kph.  Sudden stop or swerve to you left?
7.  Wet roads due to the laundry or other waste thrown by the household on the street;
8.  Sand and gravel left on the street after heavy rain.

Just be watchful, vigilant and be safe

Chief of a food manufacturing giant tweets bike lanes cause traffic at EDSA

Wheels of Happiness

Ramon Ang: Ang problema lamang sa EDSA, traffic is because of the bicycle lane. In other countries, bicycle lane is on the sidewalk. Tayo ginawa natin sa gitna ng highway |
@stanleygajete
All ready this tweet is taking flak mostly from the biking world because as we all know traffic was in Edsa long before the bike lanes (which were introduced only in pandemic) There are other causes which know as too large volume of vehicles, undisciplined behavior at the road, illegal parking at some areas to mention many more
The good sir may have spoken out of turn or brash conclusion. We all know that this true but not entirely true. Other factors play a part.
This post used to teach at grad school critical thinking. One subject was systemic thinking:
1. The causes of problem is systematic - ie no singular cause of problems. There are multiple causes of problem.
2. The causes are not simplistic or linear;
3. Thus Peter Senges teaching that in strategic thinking we need to address the five items in each of the employees,: shared vision, ,shared learning, mindset, personal improvement, systemic thinkig

Bike to Work Pilipinas at FB

From Spin Ph: Is biking the answer to MM traffic problem

There is a renewed interest in bike to work:  MC or bikes:   MTB and  RB.  The traffic gridlock which could be very frustrating, time and fuel wasted, late to work and appointments, the frequent and unsolvable MRT breakdowns make us think of the  easiest and cheapest way to solve this problem:   bike to work.

Advantages:

1. Less fuel;
2.  Less pollution
3.  Instant solution:  no cap ex on the part of the govt;
4. Healthier lifestyle
5.  Less absenteeism at work, less tardiness
6.  O expense on fares.

I just talked to two delivery boys of a bed company in Bicutan who bike to work:   one is RB and other is MTB.  I gave for free (no raffle) one old helmet.  They bike no less than 60 km to work

Certain infrastructures though must be made to encourage more people to bike to work:

Inputs:        bike lanes,  parking for bikes at buildings, SG to guard the bikes, secured parking lots for
                  bikers, bus and  LRT MRT friendly to bikers, airlines  and ships friendly to bikers  (LRT and
                  MRT now allows folding bikes to be brought inside the cabin, thanks to efforts of TSP - Tiklop
                  Society of the  Philippines

Throughputs:   laws protecting bikers,  tpl MV for bikers   education for MV drivers to respect bikers; training for PUSO, traffic cops, MMDA about new bike laws

Outputs:      laws, posters, announcements

Environment:   biker friendly offices, employers, traffic enforcers, malls, local govt;   safety consciousness

Catalyst:      low interest, or interest free loans from bike shops,  financing company, SSS, employers

Human aid:    Legislators, Attys, lawyers lawmakers who are bikers, RB and MTB association, blog and
                      FB posts, emergency and rescue facilities in case of accident

Indeed bike to work has come of age, maybe 40% done:   kasi my bike lanes na, may bikers association, by force of necessity, factory and construction bike to work, the population of MC bikers is increasing by leaps and bounds (and Motortrade, Ropali etc are having it good)

These are tip for bike to work:   From top gear: tips on bike to work

Things to know about biking to work from Rappler

Some tips:

1. Be visible be agile
2. Avoid dark clothing
3   Adopt high cadence pedaling style to help further become visible
4.   Follow traffic rules (no beating of red lights keep right0
5.   Stay 4 to 5 ft away from gutter (in case you fall and to avoid broken glass)

Traffic was unusually heavy at our route for Bisikleta Iglesia, mass exodus of motor vehicle owners: cars, motorcyclists and cyclists

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
March 24, 2016

                                   Gerry on  counterflow together with MC riders

Traffic was unusually heavy today, as we pursued our goal of completing visit to 7 churches for the Bisikleta Iglesia project today Holy Thursday.

In Tanay, the traffic was from the memorial park up to Sampaloc Tanay intersection, a distance of about 3 km;

In Morong, the usual traffic from Maybancal up to the church, and from Morong Cardona boundary up to the church;

In Binagonan:

       Traffic up to the P Y from Manila East Road going to Binangonan town proper

       At Pantok, traffic extends from Bilibiran up to Pantok

                                 Road to Tanay jammed by MC riders and cars. up to 3 km long

                                       This 20 wheeler trailer had to wait it out

                                  MTB, MC overtaking from all sides

                                      MC riders about 30 of them at Halayhayin Pililla

Attending appointments riding bike

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   May 19, 2015

I attended a meeting yesterday at Tiendesitas Motor City area.  The meeting was scheduled at 7:30.  Knowing that it was a Monday morning, and knowing how traffic at C5 has been bad lately (ever since they allowed a traffic light at Lanuza - who thought of that?  It was better during BF's time  C5 was a haven for motorist, and respite vs. Edsa.)

I decided I would go to the meeting site,  riding a bike.  True enough, I was there at 7:30.   Traffic was all ready bad near the Megawide factory (there is an on going road construction, and the curve is a bottleneck), the Highway 2000 (the automatic mode was over ridden by traffic enforcer), at Stella Maris, and of course at C5.

In the days to come, bike ride would be a better alternative to MC for commuting.

Dont you think so?  For many factory and construction workers, bike ride (MTB) has been their way of commuting.

Too much traffic at NLEX exit to EDSA last night

Wheels of Happiness

After escaping several traffic jams in the entrance of NLEX in Angeles, and at exit in Bocaue, one encounters traffic jam at cloverleaf and guess what is the cause?  The trucks, jeeps, tricyles and vendors lining up EDSA at Balintawak from the  market up to Puregold.

It was not very late though and there were plenty of traffic enforcers.  (Blue boys) and yet they looked boneback and toothless to enforce orders.   Dahil magpapasko o napapaskuhan?

Hay saan napupunta taxes?  Bakit pa my pulis, traffic enforcer, barangay at gobyerno

Certainly traffic jams coming from this ineptness and lack of sensitivity from other kababayan (dahil naghahanapbuhay) borders on callousness, lack of respect
