Celebration of 40th birthday of Richard Ang yesterday

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines
March 1, 2016

The 40th birthday of Recyclist Richard Ang was celebrated yesterday in his house together with some 20 plus Recyclists.   They had to attend, or else.... get a punch on the thigh (as published at Facebook (lagot si Engr. June, si Master at si Joel)  Those who came:  Kuya Boy, Vhen, Pres Luis, Tito, Chito (he did not go to to work at Mit. Sta Rosa just to attend), the Zapanta brothers:    Armin and Archie, Sec Noe, Victor, Val, Weng, Gerry K, VM, Jeff, Pangskie, JB,

It was a very happy occasion becasue many attended (out of fear) not because of devotion or love of Richard) hahaha.    There papaitan, spaghetti, laing, menudo, adobo, cucumber salad, embutido.  Drinks flowed:   SML,and light brandy.

On top of that there is videoke singing, and there would a Miss Gay contest later on. (I did not see this because I left early)

Theoretically, Richard celebrated his 40th birthday.  But since it on a leap year, he celebrated this only 10x.

Happy birthday Richard.

Injured heel did not deter my biking today March 14, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  March 14, 2015

It is Saturday we have work today but I excused myself from work.  My goal was to bike only as far as Morong because my heel which I injured last Saturday has not healed -  it had deep cuts after a screen door ran after me.

So as I went out, Richard saw me and he said he had to go to the plaza to accompany lady MTB to SCH. So I left him.  I went for a while to Sacred Heart Parish to say a little prayer for my safety.  On the way, Jess V caught up with me.  Soon Nolite.  They added pace as we passed by the Convention Center.   We passed and Meong and Victor and then they were completely gone after they crested near Montevideo.

I was not able to chase them.  Victor passed by the Cardona bypass and met him at the Y.  Well I was able to outsprint him. And I had to stop before the Market because my heel hurt.

On the way back, I saw Meong, Jimmy,  then the group of Richard, Alan, Pangskie  and Vhen in that order.  Well I think it was a good ride.  I had 3 anaerobic sprints, including one at  Callahan.  I rode heavy gears going up back at Callahan and LLDA.

Why buwis buhay (or bingit disgrasya)?  Kasi we posed on the middle of the road just so we can have the photo ops...

Have pity on Senior Citizens on bike ride.!

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   |  February 2, 2015

Yesterday, Richard and I were together from Angono up to Sacred Heart church as we started past 6:00 am. He said we get severe lashes from Pres. Luis for being late.  So after our prayers we left for Morong.

It was kind of challenge to keep up with Richard who is young and well practiced.  I was out of practice for two weeks because of the tour mentioned.

We were together neck to neck up to Callahan were he stood up and he left me by some 30 meters and he disappeared at the flats.  I tried to catch up with him and sprint.  I caught up with him though at Callahan and passed him near the summit (barely by 3 inches) and we were panting like tired dog and  rabbits when we reached Simples Lugawan.  I biked up to the crest of hill after Maybancal and returned.  (I would do 2 more bike returns:  one to km 52 to be with Sonny Barde) and then to Tanay when I met the tropa who returned because of the train)

I could have chalked up more than 80 km for repeated rides to and fro.

When I got back to have breakfast at Simples Lugawan, I pleaded/joked with Richard not to punish the seniors (although he said as we rode that I could be wrong about my age.  hahaha6}

His Holiness, Pope Francis leaves today for Rome, and leaves behind lessons and emotions that will not be forgotten for long

Last Saturday, as His Holiness flew to Leyte to sympathize with the Yolanda victims, we rode to Sierra Madre, via Sampaloc.

I was a hesitant starter, because I arrived late after trying to see the Pope at the Family Encounter in MoA.  I felt I was not physically up to par, and I had an appointment at 2 pm that day.

Nevertheless, I was at the appointed place, Sacred Heart Parish.   Pres Luis and I nearly collided with one another at MLQuezon in Angono, at about 5:40

Proposed bike ride to Baguio City or Sagada

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines   | January 1, 2015

Richard, left, announced the proposed long ride;  Archie and Choco beside him

Happy New Year everyone.  Wishing every one a happy and prosperous year ahead of us -  uneventful, challenging, and causing us to improve and be better in our ride.

In the last Christmas party held last December 30, 2014, last year, Richard Ang, the MC announced the planned ride to Baguio City or Sagada.  The scheduled ride will be on Feb  20 21, 22

1.  The Baguio City option -  1st day ride to Urdaneta, 225 km flat ride; 2nd day ride to Baguio City 78 km, sleep at the Leonard Wood Gonzales inn, 3rd day, bus ride to Manila

2.  The Sagada option.   Leave Angono from Unishoppe at 12 midnight of 19th, arrive Sagada 12 noon, rest;  2nd day ride from Sagada to Baguio City via Halsema highway, stay sleep in Baguio City;   3rd day ride down to Rosario via Marcos Highway, or take bus ride from Baguio City;  let bikes ride to Manila.

The group voted 14  to 12 in favor of Sagada.

The damage will cost about P25,000 and means P1,000 each contribution for gas, food, board and lodging, excluding bus ride and pasalubong.  I remember I and Armin being member of the finance committee.

The concern of others is the cramped condition of everyone in travel from Angono to Sagada if there are only 3 vehicles.  (Defender,  say 10 pax, Patrol say 8 and the truck (that would be difficult for a 11 hour ride

Christmas party at the house of Jess Verchez and family today, December 30, 2014

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  December 30, 2014

We finally had the Christmas party today December 30, 2014 at the house of Jess Verchez. They  planned it before last December 22, 2014 but the group had to postpone it because VM would not be able to come because of previous corporate commitment

The event was to be potlach, and we had to bring P100 worth of gifts for exchange.  Those who were in attendance:

Recyclists kapadyaks had difficulty in their feeding station yesterday; we had a great time at McDo though

Wheels of Happiness

Rizal Philippines  |  April 21, 2014
Angry and hungry;  Richard complaining to VM about change of feeding sites

We had some frayed nerves and feelings yesterday regarding where to eat.  Since we could not proceed to Sky Ranch, the consensus was to eat at Dasmarinas.  So at 11:30 we rode down the Aguinaldo highway and by past 12, we were at Dasmarinas. Some guys were about to order their food when someone ordered to leave for the next (?) one.  Someone suggested at Jollibee but where.  No one stopped any of the 3 Jollibees along Paliparan.  The kapadyaks stopped at Daang Hari.  By that time, people were angry and hungry for denying, changing the place where to eat.

Only a handful joined the Tagaytay ride today, April 20, 2014; we did not reach the Sky Ranch

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal   Philippines  |  Easter Sunday  April 20 2014

Look at the traffic, going to and from Skyranch

This bus  near 7 11burned and the fire has to be put out by chem fire extinguisher;  scary;  we abandoned the place and parking slot because we might catch fire too; or be hurt in an explosion

Maybe because it was Easter Sunday, we got only and handful of participants:

Jess V, Gerry Y,  Joel J,   Master E,  VM, Chito  F, Nolite, Richard A, Ado G, Val and Jorgeusbiuker.  Because of the traffic (and the burning bus, we were not able to proceed to SkyRanch   Jeff and Luis were with us at the assembly but did  not join the ride.  Val was not initially with us but caught us at C6

Richard leads the group in prayer before departure in front of Taytay Hall

At Metrobank Daang Hari, the usual pit stop

Val, a cycling Pro (from the province) chased us at C6

Jeff rode to Baguio with 2 others last Thursday and Friday via Marcos Hiway.  Tsk tsk they had to walk past the tunnel to Green Valley.

It was hard and long (the ride to Lemery yesterday October 27 2013)

Real Cyclists

Post for the Lemery ride, October 27 2013

Our ride yesterday to Lemery Batangas, was hard and long.  My aching muscles and bones, and my sleepiness attest to the fact.

How about the other riders.?

It was 90+ km one way, and it was hard and furious.  VM tells me that that the peloton is now very fast and furious.  If you are left by just 10 meters, then you are left behind.

I can attest to the fact.  I led the group at the service road but once I was left behind at Alabang traffic light, then they were gone.  I led too up to Pontefino in Daang Hari, and Greenwoods..  That was the last time I led.  Fatigue set in.

I slept early after I arrived. I forgot my dinner.  I had it a 9 pm.

Recyclists, kapadyak, do you agree it was long and hardD?

A very durable and strong bike - Trek Domane

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal   PHL   |  October 7, 2013

Carbon fiber bikes are really strong;  but dont you think that its structure is now weak?Trek should include this in their history books!

We saw an accident involving a car and a bike at Binangonan yesterday just before 7 am (near the Pajara heavy equipment depot) and it was sort of freak;  the car front was ripped off and was over the bike a very expensive latest Trek Domane (the one used by Cancellara)  The bike was still standing tall after being run over by the car.  (See photo)  Trek should be proud of the result of this accident

The bike owner was inconsolable;  he said the bike cost him P300,000 and he wants the whole bike replaced.  The car driver owner was not speaking.

And I told the crowd, maybe the vehicle drivers - jeepney, tricycles, truck think that we ride cheap stuff.  They would be surprised how expensive they could be.  It is a fair warning to drivers and can owners who think bikers are lowlife.

See how the bike ripped off the fender and the bumper (Hahaha the car bumped the bike -  you!!)

The Tarmac bike saying hello to the injured Domain;  that is Armin with Tarmac

Other bikers sympathizing, or simply UZI - Richard and Armin

Richard's jersey colors and that of Domane are the same

Armin and Richard feared that they smiled for this shot;  they did! (no empathy for the Trek Domane and its owner...)

The accident created a huge traffic mess; many are wondering how come the bike was still standing tall?!  It looked as if the bike ripped the front of the car....
