This morning our office staff and I had PE at Eastridge.  Lo and behold, there were two very young roadies who climbed near the guardhouse of Eastridge riding road bike with gears of 39 x25.  One of them was Choco2.  Wow.

They even proceeded to Thunderbird.  I could only reach Unamonte.

I biked today to Bugarin (well I planned earlier to just be at Pisong Kape  -  Gerry and Jess were there pala.  I only saw Tito)  I met Rommel (Smith) my cousin) as I was leaving.  He was RIT with his daughter on the way to school.  Hannah, his daughter, can ride MTB very well up to Pisong Kape and up Teresa. He asked if I was riding solo and I said yes

I left at 6:20 this morning and was at Sacred Heart by 6:30.  I was at Morong, Simple's Lugaw by 7:20.   I met two bikers there:  one roadie and another MTB.  One was from Taguig and the other was from Pinagbuhatan Pasig City.  They were going back to Pasig and Taguig because they have job.

Choco2 (Jimuel Mariposa) a fellow recyclist (only a teen ager and in his prime) collapsed at Bugarin, Pililla Rizal on the way back, (at about 2 pm+)  at Km 71. He had to stop. (His uncle Gerry passed him and left him??) Those who saw this happen were Master, Weng Balubar and myself

Jimuel sat down and put his head below his shoulder, which is a no no.  It  was hot and humid and we advised him to stand up and walk, and douse his head, his back and shoulder with water.  Then we had to advise him to do 1 2, 1 2 pedalling (which was pretty tough though).  We again stopped at San Miguel where he had a drink of cold water (the sales lady was surprised that he collapsed)

Choco choco complained he could not breathe because of probably spoiled food he ate at Morong early today

After the downhill at Bugarin and when the weather turned colder and there were showers, Choco2 probably recovered.  It rained when was  3:00 while in Pisong Kape, and he probably recovered.

So we told him he could avoid this type of collapse next time. It should not happen to him because he is very young and top state of health

Choco2 said Jorgesubiker rode well and strong yesterday.

Choco2 our great teen age protege who tried out for the Philippine Olympic team last Tuesday,  June 24 2014  (he did not make it though because of hard hill climbs at Kaybiang and Nasugbu side. -- but we are truly proud and blessed we had a Philippine Olympic team material)  said I rode strong yesterday.  I do not know if he was kidding me.

I left at about 6:45 and passed by as usual at Sacred Heart Parish in Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal to pray and get blessings from Fr. Willy.  It was the feast of Immaculate Concepcion.  After the blessing, "Ite missa est"  I started my ride.  A group of Taytay riders was passed by the moment I stepped out of church yard and I gave a chase.  They were not doing so fast, maybe 29 to 31 and I caught up with them near Tagpos and even went up ahead of their peloton in Bilibiran.  There I overtook Ben.  I guessed Ben did not recognize me.  Then I waited for Ben in Darangan, and he recognized me this time.  We rode slowly until Mambog.  I surged until the top.

In Cardona, Choco2 and VM caught up with us.  They were again with a group of hard riding Taytay riders and they were sweating profusely.   At Callahan, I tried to attack VM who was ahead.  I was on 50 x 19 and spun.  I was ahead until the Queen Mary hospital, Choco attacked and I tried to chase him.  Downhill, VM passed me.  Immediately after descending, at the last curve, I attacked the two and passed Choco2 who was ahead.  Near Bagombon, the duo passed me and I waited for Ben to arrive.  I was able to take his picture pa.

Then lugaw at Simples.  That was about 8:00 am .  At about 8: 15, we left for Pisong kape.    I was at the rear of the first group.  I again chased the group, and Vic was in front of him.  Past Lagundi, I overtook the first peloton, and I stopped their picture at KM 50 in Baras.  I gave a chase again, and I saw that Ernie Mariposa (the father of Choco2) and Vic lost steam and were left behind.   I did not  catch the rest.  But at km 59, I stopped, waited to take pictures of others.  I was surprised that I was ahead of VM, Master E, Edgar, Sigmond Ado.  I took their pictures.  It was unusual for me to be ahead and take pictures.

I left the group at at Pisong Kape at about 9+ to ride up to Bugarin.  I employed the large chain ring.  I pedaled at 50 x 23, or 50x25.  That made my legs and thighs cry in pain again.  But I compensated by riding slowly.

On the way back, I came across a group of 3:   one lady and 2 Caucasians all on  TT or tribikes.  I gave chase and even passed them uphill at Maybancal (from DPWH up to barangay hall).  This time I can give a chase.  I can surge and even attack.  (Yabang po)

Unfortunately, the Bugarin ride made me come late for Armin's birthday celebration.

It is Sunday, as usual there is a regular all out bike ride today by Recyclists.  I left at 6: 10 this morning and said a little prayer at Sacred Heart Parish.  When I reached Darangan, Choco2 was there  and as I stopped to take pollution pictures but he wont.  Past the Binangonan Convention Center, Richard came;  I took some more pictures;  then we climbed Mambog. I even overtook the 2 before the summit;  but then my thighs burned, I slowed down and they were ahead of me by some l5 meters and then disappeared downhill.  Some mt bikers overtook me. 

But I caught up with them at Callahan;  they slowed down going uphill.  I caught sight of Choco2 and Richard and they were merely ahead by 20 meters going up Callahan.  They sped away.

At Cardona Morong highway, I time trialled however again the Mt. Bikers were fast and good at negotiating traffic.  We arrived at Morong Maybancal by 7:15 which was pretty fast.  Choco2 and Richard went straight to Pisong Kape.  We had lugaw and buchi at Simples.   Those who were there:
Master, Joel, Nanding, Peter, Tito,;  then VM Pres Luis, and Armin arrived later.  I met Eddie Pama whom I befriended.  I met him before at 711 Col Guido and at the Bosoboso ride.

We left earlier (Eddie and I) from Maybancal.  so that we could have headstart.  The peloton caught with us at KM 52 (going up the hill to Tanay)  We however caught with the peloton at km 57.  Eddie taught me how to use the gears.  Low low gears going up but shifting to l5 or l7 as soon as you reach the summit.  Shift to 53x l5 as soon as you go downhill.

We were with the peloton when we arrived at Pisong Kape.  Then we went duo up Bugarin where we arrived at 9:10  We had buko at Km 70 with friends of Eddie from Davao City.

We biked down at  9;45 and we rested at Morong by 11: 00. There was this lady there who offered us manicure.  She said she is from Naga City and had 2 husbands who are old.  And they are not good.  She had 11 children.

  We were in Angono by 12:15.  He invited me to his house in Graceville to drink cold water and softdrinks and water and had lunch.  I left his place at 2:00 pm.  I learned that he lives alone.  His wife and children are in   Kuwait

Choco2 and Master E are now ok.  Remember that Choco2 figured in a head on collision about a month ago and was badly injured.  He had to stay in the hospital for almost 4 days.  On the other hand Master e broke his shoes, his rear roller  for the derailleur about two weeks ago.   He injured his knees when he fell.  He and his bike are OK.

Choco used another bike;  his old bike was totalled.

First let us welcome Joseph.  It is very welcome and refreshing to have young blood come to our group.  That means we are a young group; and that means we will have a great future.  Joseph will give Choco2 competition so that he will not e complacent.


Joseph, the relative of Weng, a very young rider who joined us today (as sub for Choco2) but he quit at Daang Hari on the way back;  he had cramps.  His bike does not have a derailleur.  Morever, he could be short on mileage and endurance.

Maybe some new riders know their limitations that is why they did not join.  Hahaha.  It is 150 km of hard ride.  Uphill.  That is Tagaytay.

I visited Choco2 twice today:   once at 7:25 am before going to work, and today at 10: 00 am. His parents were out early in the morning  I brought some merienda for him at 10:00 am and took pictures.  He went to the cr when I went for the second time.  His father and mother were there this time.

Choco2 may be discharged this afternoon. He says his body still aches and his left leg still swollen, limps.

There was another motorcycle victim in the war, a new one, who figured again on head on collision at Calumpang hiway. 

Choco2 was lucky;  there were three who died in a motorcycle accident in Angono last Monday dawn.  Three riding in tridem at bike tested a 4 wheeled vehicle in a head on collision.  All the passengers died.

Need we say more?

So some things are in order:

l.  Safety training for motorbike riders;

2.  Always wear your helmet.

3.  Avoid going out with your bike without lights at night

4.  Enforce law vs drunken driving strictly. The police should concentrate on this:  safety.  Be strict about liquor laws.

5.  Run after drug pusher.  Detain drivers who are drug crazed and I think there are many.

6.  Limit sales of motorcycles to those who are responsible.

7.  Enforce comprehensive insurance on motorbikes (I think most only have tpl).  No comprehensive insurance, no registration

After reading so many FB posts about Choco2 early today about his accident and his confinement at the Angono General Hospital at Barrio San Isidro (it is some 200 meters from here I work and 250 meters from the house), I visited him.   It took me sometime before I knew where was confined (the data base/info system of the hospital is not centralized/computerized);  I had to inquire at each and every nurse station where Jeruel (Choco2) Mariposa is.  And I finally I saw him -  with his mother and father Netoy.

Choco2 looked OK of now;  he had some scratches which seemed to have healed;  his legs and arms seemed swollen though. He sat near the edge of the bed.  He is on IV.  His recovery seems rapid.

He said that the motorbike met slammed into him head on near their house at St Monique in Pantok, Binangonan Rizal.  He lost consciousness and his bike was a total wreck.

His offender was also wounded.  He was visited by the offender and the wife (?) at the time I was there and I think they were given money for the medicine.  Netoy said that as per story, the motorbike rider seemed to be high on drugs at the time of accident. No he could not join the Tagaytay ride

There you are;  be careful of motorbike riders especially at night until wee hours of the morning when they could be high on drugs or drunk.

I had some close encounters with motorbikes before and I had to cuss some of them and many are agressive enough to chase me and threaten me.   God knows  and fate knows what they do is wrong and cost them their lives like the accident yesterday where 3 motorbike riders in tridem died from a head on collision with a car.  This guy is lucky because he collided with a bicycle.

In the socials held at the tonite, post ride, it was remarked that Choco our youngest rider must be trained and coached better.  He faltered in the stretch from Urdaneta to Rosario (I even caught up with him and saw he withered.)  Previously it was told he vomited at the Sierra Madre climb.

eMaster remarked to me ealier as we climbing Kennon about the lack of science and discipline in training of Choco2.  He had other interest and could not be a serious biker.

Richard remarked that he is not improving but deteriorating.

What can be done to make him competitive and national class....He could be say trained in spinning  at all speeds...
