The view from the ice plant at Cardona

The President of Recyclists Luis posted this at the facebook that we will ride today to Pagsanjan and we would assemble at Sacred Heart Church at 5 30 am.

"PAGSANJAN RIDE" AUG. 30, 2014, SAT. ASSMBLY TIME; 5:30 AM AT TAYUMAN CHURCH.... DEPART AT 6:00 AM : 1ST PITSTOP AT PISONG KAPE; 2ND AT MANAY'S RESTO : 3RD AT PAGSANJAN CHURCH; TYPE A 2014 UNIFORM.....

I went to Sacred Heart church at 5:20 and waited until 5:40 but no one was there probably on account of the light showers.  I thought that for most Recyclists Plan B is also Plan A (go ahead with the ride no matter what)  I was in full battle gear except the cycling shoes.

So I decided to bike at least to Cardona.  Lo and behold, there was no more rains and the roads were dry.  We could have gone ahead.  Did they proceed with the ride?  I met no one on my ride back.  I met only 5 mountain bikers.

May I say that I rode well since I slept well last night for this ride.  I did Montevideo easy at 53 x 21 doing about 20 kph, Callahan at 53 x 23 at about 15 kph sitting down.

I did LLDA going back to Montevideo at 53 x 23 at about 12 kph.

How to keep fit even if rains and rains and rains

Real Cyclists

How to keep fit even if it rains.  When it rains now, it really rains.

I posted this at facebook at Jorgeusbiker pages:

How will you keep fit if continues to rain?

You cant bike because you cant afford to get your bike wet nor get sick.  Undue exposure to the rain and cold can make you sick.  And yet your feet ache/itch to ride or do physical exercise.  So what do you do:

1.  Do calisthenics;  or free exercise without equipment, or barbells;  you do squats, push ups, or yoga.

2.  Go to a gym.  But that may be expensive for you

3. Do stationary biking.  One of my bikes is mounted on a Minaura trainer.  I bought it 4 years ago (5t) to continue simulated biking when it rains

You can do a variety of exercises with the trainer:

   1.  Warm up for ten minutes using the 39 gear starting with easy gears say 19 gradually increasing to l4,

   2.  Switch to 53 x 17, gradually bringing it down to 15

   3.  Do Number 2 on hoods

   4.  Do Number 2 on drops

   5.  Sprint on Number 2 on hoods, rest

   6.  Sprint on Number 2 on drops

   7.  Do easy pedalling 39 x 17 for 5 minutes

   8.  Time for hard pedalling;   set at 39 x 17 and put settings at 3;  do for 10 minutes sitting down

   9.  Do this standing for 5 minutes

  10.   Set at 5;  set at 39 x 23 do this sitting down for 5 minutes

  11.  Do this for 5 minutes sitting down.

If you can do this for 30 minutes, you will find how hard you will sweat and as if you really biked on the road.  Why dont you try this if you reaaalllly want to bike and you have a trainer like mine in your house.

Why I am always behind in our bike rides?

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal  PHL  | July 31, 2013

I used to wonder why I am always behind the bike rides;

l.  First of all age matters (am a senior 62)

2. I take pictures of the ride; for the blog/facebook

3.  I still have the pack one pack all attitude especially the rescue/sweeper mentally in mountain trekking.  You do not mind your own safety and you make sure that your companions are OK.  Hence when master had two more flats, I made sure that I stood by him.

I do not know whether it is a strength or weakness?
