Today I am 67 years old.  I will just stay home today.

Yesterday, I biked up to km 58, 31 km away from home. That is all ready Pililla. I only planned to ride up to Morong.  Why did I end up riding that long.?

Because in Morong a young long legged  rider on a Bianchi XR4 overtook me just after the  Morong Gas station.  Of course, this post wanted to test if S works really work.  Just before Laguna junction. this rider overtook  the Bianchi XR4 Oltre and sustained the distance ahead by a some 100 meters until km 51 when the latter overtook this rider again.   I caught up with him just before the ascent to the Baras Tanay boundary (km 52)  but when we crested he overtook me again. That was the original target destination. And so I just let him go.

The cooling down period took me up to km 58 hahaha.

Conclusion:  when driven hard, S works bike really works

I rode today despite very cold morning air.  I wore a lightweight  Specialized Jacket given to me by my sister in US about 5 years ago.  However in Cardona I was all ready perspiring.

Encounter with other bikers.

Some MTBs passed me in Pantok, however I tried to catch up with them.  I caught up with them at Calumpang road and of course they were no match for the small cogs of roadies.

Then just before Lagundi (it was supposed to be a RR (rest and recovery day) however, I was teased into biking faster than I was supposed to)  I passed two bikers with GHillls jersey.   I promptly passed them.  They had TT gear and maybe they were for a show.  They tried to pass me at km 54, however I dropped them again.   Other groups of riders, mostly MTBs were also passed in a similar manner.

On the way back, I tried to catch up with a rider in Saxo jersey from Teresa who looks like he is competitive rider.  I understand his surname is Pineda.  Going up to  TAnay and Baras Hills and even downhill, I was ahead, however at the flat, near km 51 he overtook me and tried to catch up with Mr. Fixie.  (the elderly rider who rides a 52 x 14 fixie bike)

My very late bike ride today took me to Pililla Rizal.  I was in Morong by 9 am, and I met the Recyclists at Lagundi furiously riding on fast clip and rode up to Pililla by 930.  I had my lugaw with egg there and biked back by 10 am. I was   passed by the Taytay cylists who included Boyeth, at km 55.  I stayed with them until Km 53.  And then they disappeared on the way down from the Tanay cemetery hill.

  I was in Morong by 1030 and happened to meet Mr. Boots Rayos del Sol, who says he is a computer programmer working in Eastwood.  He has Cervelo bike shod in AmCla with Conti tires.

However, he seemed to have left me after we initially met at Maybancal;  I was stuck in traffic in downtown Morong.  I did not see him anymore until I saw him nursing a flat in Bilibiran. I stopped and lent him my tire irons (este plastic) to remove the tire from the rim.   By then it started to rain until 1145.  We rode back when the rain stopped.  We took picture in front of Sacred Heart Parish in Tayuman

A lot of fruits in season were on sale yesterday and they were cheap:   rambutan is at P25.00 per kg;  lanzones is P50.00 per kg.   Durian is also aplenty at only P50.00 per kg.

Marang and durian according to the vendor, Gladys de la Cruz are a plenty in Paete, Laguna.  Lanzones and rambutan come from all over Laguna:   Calauang, Famy, Pakil, Pangil, Cavinti;  very few lanzones now grow in Paete.  I have heard very soon, Paete will overtake Davao as durian capital of the PHL.

Those who were selling fruits were found at:   Pililla (Halayhayin) - two sites,  Lagundi - 1 site;   2 sites at Bilibiran (mostly rambutan) and one at Tagpos, Binangonan, Rizal.

Unfortunately for me, I did not have a back pack to place the fruits, so I was not able to buy.

                               This variety sells for P30.00/kg.

I am disappointed with the results of road widening

The PHL government must have spent millions for road widening and improvement at floodway and lately the Manila East Road.  The widening is supposed to make travel more convenient and safe, relieve congestion and the like.

However, most of the road widening  are used to parochial and selfish use of the residents.  Up to now procession jam traffic/travel from Quezon and Bicol region at Laguna and Batangas area.   The local government and the residents doing the procession could not care less?

Why is it that way?

Look at this Lagundi widening which is now used for Palay drying. After driving away roadside settlers, cutting of the trees, the multi million expenditure just ended up being used as palay drier.  How great?

We are thanking DPWH and other public officials for making well paved, smooth roads possible for cyclists in Bugarin, Pililla Tanay, Cardona, Binangonan, Morong, Teresa and Antipolo.  And all of these were done during the election period.

As biked last June 20, 2013, there were a number of projects going on:

l.  Km 63 to 64 (Rizal 2nd district)  -  putting of base coarse on the shoulder.

2.  Km 70 to 71 (Laguna 2nd district)  -  road widening

3. Km  111 to 110 (Laguna 2nd district)  Pangil road widening.

That is why it is such a joy to bike in these areas

 At Lagundi  -  BANAYAR (BANAYAD - SLOW)

As I have told earlier, I did not join the guys who went to Tagaytay.  I simply wanted to bike for a short period and avoid the hot time of the day.  I wanted to be back by 10.00 am.  So after visiting the Sacred Heart church in Tayuman, I rode up to Morong.  At Maybancal, I was shooed off to continue biking up to Pisong Kape in Pililla.

After a brief stop in Pisong Kape we biked up to OL (overlooking ) at Bugarin.  I biked up to KM 66 to add some mileage.. Then back to Simples Lugawan, and stop at URS Binangonan and then to Smith in Bo San Pedro in Angono, Rizal
