Long ride to San Felipe Zambales on October 30 to Nov 1, 2015

Wheels of Happiness

Angono, Rizal Philippines
October 27 2015

Gerry and Jeff invited me to join the long ride during the Undas week end -  long ride to San Felipe Zambales from here. From the Google maps, I estimate this to be 208 km.  100 km  up to San Fernando Pampanga, and 103 to San Felipe.  It is  a town past Subic:   San Narciso

Those who will join are:

Jeff
Gerry
Weng,
Angel,
Edgar
and JB.

Any more joining?

I did two 100 km training rides:   last Saturday (to Jalajala) and yesterday. to Famy.  I hope they are long enough.  I was able to bike at noon time on both occasion because as we climb to Olongapo, that will be noon time.  And that promise to be a challenge.

I biked more than 62 km one way today! (73 actually) on my 62nd birthday

Real Cyclists

Angono, Rizal PHL   | June 20, 2013.

Today I fulfillled my promise to myself that I will bike 62 km one way to celebrate my 62nd birthday.

I left at 6:30 and passed by Sacred Heart Church (as most birthday celebrators are wont to do)   Was in Maybancal Morong by 730, in Halayhayin by 8:15, at Bugarin by 8:46,   in Mabitac by 9:15.  I was in Kalayaan  by 9:46.

The distance estimate from Angono to Paete was 73.  I was in Kalayaan (+ 3 km),  I failed to get my correct distance and hence I over rode the target.  I could have ridden up to Tarlac or round Laguna or even Tagaytay.

Riding back, I was in Pangil by l0:46 where I had my snack,   12:30 at Mabitac,  l:00 at Pisong Kape, 2:00 at Morong and 3 pm at Angono.

Well I kept my promise to myself to do what I planned to do.

Come Sunday for the June celeb bash, I would not suffer anymore because it the second time around

Google Map from Urdaneta to Baguio City - just 76 km

Biking and health

It is just 76 km and no one is expected to get lost.  Just bike straight up North.   The only confusing place will be at Rosario La Union.  We will probably make a stop there and we will not get lost.

It is suggested that we conserve energy up to the last 10 km from the last toll gate to Kennon Road. Give your best there.  If you have to rest, rest.  But it is gonna be easy.  The Sierra Madre ride was tougher

The Angono to Urdaneta ride on January 25, 2014 would be the most challenging

Biking and health

Angono, Rizal.  January 15, 2013.    I just came from a trip to San Carlos City Pangasinan and as the bus was travelling along MacArthur I thought that this would be the most challenging for the riders.  i understand last year, the team vehicle got lost and they arrived very late at Urdaneta. And many were afflicted with cramps.  It is  196 km ride and would take approx 8 hours pedalling constantly at 25 kph

May I propose the following:

l.  Ride safe;  travel say at between 25 -30 kph only.  We can tackle the whole thing in 8 hours.  We can arrive at Urdaneta by 5 pm if we maintain our schedules;

2.  Have the driver a copy of the google maps;   inform him of the unusual traffic at San Fernando city.  He has to make a u turn after making right turn and go back to the MacArthur highway.

3.  Stops other than lunch should not take more than 10 minutes.

4.  Have the paired groupings or groupings again for safety and support.

5.  Let us divide the trip into   5 segments with rest of 10 minutes every segment.

        l.  Angono to Valenzuela

        2.  Valenzuela to San Fernando

       3.  San Fernando to Tarlac  city

       4.  Tarlac city to Rosales

       5.  Rosales to Urdaneta

Our tune up ride at Sierra Madre Hotel for Baguio Ride on January 26, 2013

Biking and health

We did a tune up ride today for Baguio today. We rode up to Sierra Madre Hotel in Tanay along Marcos highway.

The ride was supposed to start at 5:30 am;   assembly was in front of Iglesia Church in Angono.  We actually left at 6:00.  Those who came early were:   Gerry, Luis, Jess, Archie, Armin, VM, Jeff, Allan, Ben. Those we left behind were  Angel, Richard and Choco.

Absent:   Engr June, 7 days, Amigo, Smith, Papa Ric, Secx

We met Master along the way.  Joel was at Tikling.

Those who joined were:   Jayjay, Jeff, Jess, VM, Luis, Archie, Armin, Master E, Joel, Richard, Choco, Angel, Gerry Allan, Ben and myself - Jorgeus Biker.

We were at Antipolo Church at 7:10 thereabouts, and finished the mass at 8:00.  By that time, Richard, Choco and Angel have arrived. VM who checked his business in Antipolo also arrived. Richard asked Choco to purchase pan de sal for the hungry bikers.

By 8:00 we left for Boso boso.  It was a fast pace because we arrive by 8:30 at Mang Vics bulalohan.

By 9:30 we were at Garden cottage.  By l0 we left for Sierra Madre Hotel.  We were sort of fast and early because we were at Sierra Madre by 11:00.  Since we ate Buko at Sampaloc, we arrived at 12:30 in Tanay.  We ate lunch there at Nings turoturo.  We left by 1:00.

We rested at:    Morong Cardona highway (we peed),  then at waiting shed of URS Binangonan, and then Bukohan at Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal.

We were at home by 2:15.

Now the question is which is harder:   the Sierra Madre via Sampaloc or this route?

Some say this is harder.  I say the reverse route is harder.

But whatever it is, this ride should prepare the guys for Baguio Kennon rd. ride.  The km 48 to 51  (from Gov Itos manukan) to past the Bureau of Soils are long and steep climbs. It is just like climbing the Black Mt. and Lion's Head.

Proposed Baguio Ride on January 25 - 26, 2013

During our tune up ride for Baguio today (ride to Sierra Madre Hotel), it was  discussed that it will be on January 25 -  200 km ride up to Urdaneta.  I might join this ride, leave my bike to the caretaker, ride back to Manila so that I can teach.

January 26 will be the assault to Baguio City, and they will stay there overnight. I can not afford not to teach on that day, January 26 which is a teaching day for my class at AGSB.  We do not know yet how many are joining.

Damage will probably P1,000.00 same as last year.

Round Laguna Lake Ride Today, Oct 23, 2011

Have bike, we will help save the earth...

We did a round Laguna ride today almost 200 km with Gerry (Cataps Angel and me) Although we started late and had a breakdown, we still were able to arrive at 5 pm.

We decided we will go at 7:40 and we were at Bugarin at 8 45 am; at Mabitac by 9:l5 and Pakil by 9:45. We had pansit, softdrinks and buns at Manay pansitan we met some Valle verde bikers with top of the line bikes. I remember PJ and John. And I gave my blog address. We were at Pagsanjan by ll and were at Pakil by ll:30 we had buko there and my bike wheels would not rotate because I broke a spoke. It was a bad wobble and I had to find a bike repair guy who charged me P50.00 for the job (mahal he did not give me a spoke) but I could bike up to speed (only 25 kph jeje) We left Pila by l2:l5 and were at Los Banos by l:00 where he had a P49.00 lunch at Inasal. Inasal lunch. That is great. We left at l:30 pm.

We were at Sta Rosa by 3 00 pm, 330 at San Pedro and at C6 by 4:l5 and Taytay by 4:45. We admired ourselves while we emptied bladder for having gone around that big wide Laguna lake. at such a relaxed pace and having done it on time. I arrived at Angono at 530. I could have still gone to mass. But I was bone tired for this effort.

Just to think that I arrived at l0 pm last night from Iloilo. Wow Was I tough?! At 60?

Are we the LAke RIDERS?
