I have taken great interest in the following:

1.  Converting from ball bearings to sealed bearing.  I have Shimano hub  which is a candidate.  This involves. removing the cup by hammering this off.   Removing the bearings, and then pressing the bearing at the non drive side.    (Press fit or gentle tap).  Then measuring on the drive side.    And then putting the axle and the bearing.  Tap    Then reinstalling the nuts.  The bearing could be 6000 RS, or 6902 (depending on the hub diameter, and axle OD

2.  The manitou fork.   My manitou fork and the one that was shown by YT (in Spanish) are the same,

     Steps:

    1.  Remove the wheel

    2.  Remove the brakes for the fork

    3.  Remove the bottom fasteners.  

        1.  For the right (spring side with the admustment)  remove the blue adjuster with a 2 mm hex.  Then

             using a 8 mm hex loosen by turning to the right.

        2.  For the left side, loosen the bottom fastener.  using a 12 mm socket or  combination

        3.  Let the oil drip

        4.  You can now  renive tge stanchion

  4.  For the right leg:

      Loosen the plastic yellow stopper using 24 mm open wrench

      1.  Remove the two shafts inside:   Remember the order.   Clean wipe, adn grease the spring

      2  Reattach

 5. For the left leg, 

     Two conflicting versions

    1.  Remove air

    2.  Remove the top cup 

    3.  Clean and regrease

    4.  Remove the sponge and soak in oil

    5  Replace

6.  Inject 10 -15 ml of fork oil (15W)

7.  Replace the 12 mm nut at the left side, tighten the right side using the 8 mm hex by turning to the left.

 8.  Reattach the blue adjuster using 2 mm hex

   

Minding your bearings

Lately I have turned my attention to bearings:   

1.   Numbers:

      6805 -  ID 25 mm, used in Shimano BB and Campy cranks (their bearing is installed inside instead        of    at bb

      6806  - ID is 30 mm used at 386, BB30  BB.   Preferred thickness is 6 mm.

      6000 and 6001 for front and rear hubs 10 and 12mm id

      6802  ID is 15 mm and used for some higher ends hubs

2.  Bearing maintenance

     The casual, light maintenance is peeling off the RS (rubber seals) spraying the interior with                      degrease and then putting light oil and grease, then resealing

     If there is looseness or movement the whole bearing is replaced.  Bearings are cheap, and some goe

     for P100/10 pcs.  Then the expensive ones costing P400 are ceramic.  

    But I found out lately that the bearings can be disassembled and races separated and plastic cages

    removed and cleaned thoroughly.  Each bearings cleaned and then restored  It takes a lot of patience

    to reassemble

3.  Bearing remover:

    1.  Usual tap tap whack on the bearing with the screw driver.  But bearings are fragile

    2.  Bearing pusher produced by Ztto and Mozqec but only good for 25 and 30 bb only

         No puller for hub bearings with id from 10 to 15mm

   3.  The bearing puller for these are the split bolt,   used to pull blind bearings for motorcycle

4.  Bearing press fit

     Essentially a threaded rod with drifts from both side.   Can be good for all sizes of bearing

     Vise, or light tap using old bearing can achieve same purpose
