One of the cars we had was (is) a Subaru Forester - can it offroad? Yes

Wheels of Happiness

Before the Montero, we had Subaru Forester.    My daughter wanted it because there was supposed to be a sale.   This post provided the dp which was hefty.  She made the monthly.   It was fast and thrifty too. I could easily do 140 kph at SLEX or NLEX with its engine hardly worked up.  It had a cruise control, which many local cars did not have.

I was fond of 4x4, the extreme one and used TLC,, CJ,  and Range Rover.  (abused)

We recently had expensive maintenance recently for this:   timing chain, etc.  batteries.
It is a good car.

It can be used for offroad.  It is an all wheel drive car.

This post owned an E30 before - it was light, fun, nimble and fun to drive

Wheels of Happiness

This post used to own one, painted yellow.  I held on to this for 6 years  (had another E36 was a little bit heavier).  I think these models made BMW known as the driving machine.

The company too owned a 5 series, and 7 series.   The successors junked it and opted for model Japnese cars.     Crazy maintenance, they said

If I shift to riding cars, it is still about Senior Rides

Wheels of Happiness

Two or three years back, I stepped into a Nissan showroom, and wonder of wonders, the car salesman invited to me to step inside a GTR Nismo sports car.  He said it was a bargain at P6.6 million (about $100,000 ++) wow it roared like a monster.  But frugality got the better of me:    the amount could buy 6 pick ups and enough capital to start a real estate project.

I turned the offer down and lost the chance to own one of the Japanese super cars.

Biked to Morong, Bombongan yesterday; they held Recyclists Christmas party and forgot to invite me (again!)

Wheels of Happiness

After one week of inactivity (I could not bike because of threat of dog disease to spread in the house, because of stray dog straying in front of the house) i was able to bike again.  It was a short ride -  up to market of Morong, and then to Bombonga,  About 20 km one way (40 km total)

Really the growing weakness brought about by advancing age is noticeable.  Could no longer catch up with group riders in MTB or RB.  But I could still bike.  It is very important.

On the way back home met cousin Smith and another senior rider 76 yo from Kalawaan Pasig.  Was in tandem with them but left me downwill at Calahan.  Anyway was not in the mood for racing

Later at noon, Peter texted me that it was the Christmas party at Jess v's house.    I could not get myself to attend as I just slept.  They forgot to notify me again

Am tempted to purchase the Wheel top electronic shifter, with offer of P24k at an shoppers platform for 12.12

Wheels of Happiness

Am temp;ted to purchase on line the electronic gs Wheeltop at a famous shopping platform.  It is priced even lower at 24k (down from 27k, and from original 46k listed price)  This roughly just  $400 vs $700 listed price.

Its because the SRAM red shifter I have (mechanical can take in only 26t cogs max; the electronic can accommodate 36t (which I used to use).  And the STI hood is now loose and torn.   Its hard to find the hood for SRAM.

I can charge this to  my card.   Ha6

Rode to Morong on S works, with higher gears now.

Wheels of Happiness

Rode up to Km 47, 20 km from Angono on S works RB.   The cogs are 11-28 and had to use much higher gears unlike before when  I was using 11-36.  Good for the heart and better exercise at my age.   Noticed more strain on my calf

Had difficulty with SRAM groupset at S works, spent with the mechanic but finally was able to tune the GS myself

Wheels of Happiness

I had challenges with the SRAM red 10s gs at the S works RB.  First it would not shift to the biggest gear (36t).  I brought the bike to nearby mechanic;  said I need to change the cable:  outer and intter.  Paid him P100.

I brought the bike to the master Mario.  He changed the cable and later recommended that  a cable be brought out from the head set because it crimps the outer and makes the shifting  hard and might damage the interior of the  sti.  He recommended to change the cog to the 26 or 28t and remove the goat link because the larger gear is hard on the RD

I requested Mario while at it to fix the  headset which at times seem to have micro rattling.   Which he did.  He noted the wiggle of the front wheel to which he attributed to busted bearing.   Later on I found out that the QR was not well tightened. Iits OK now

I changed to smaller cog.  But again  it would not shift to the largest  gear (this time 28).  I found out later that I was loosening the wrong limit screw.  For SRAM the low was at the top , and hight was at the bottom.  Then horror of horror, the shifting went down to ontly 4 cogs.   I found out that the outer slipped and the inner cable was loose.   Did some fiddling and got it right.

Now my desire for the electronic gs is not as high anymore.   Because the shifting of the SRAM is now smooth.  Many of those who went electronic are now returning to cable shifters

It is so satisfying to be able to figure out yourself the problems and solving it yourself

A more affordable electronic gs?

Wheels of Happiness

Let us continue to be friends with China, Ride not war!
This can fit my S works,  It is difficult to service this because cables go in from the handlebar to the fork.   This has been the cause of head ache.  Servicing the gs can be much simpler now.   And I can get a new gs.  Experience electronic shifting

Economically priced electronic group set from China - Wheeltop

Wheels of Happiness

Its 50% of the price of Shimano or  SRAM.  Experts say that the abandonment by SRAM of the mechanical GS market.

The price at Lazada is P29,000+ for rim brakes and P34,000 for the first time user.  The regular price is  700 pounds or Php 49,000.

The parts are made of carbon fiber

I might be tempted to try out the electonic group set  (My s works configuration makes it difficult to stick to cabled gs)

Good experience so far
